It was pretty cool. I cant really say much about the bar. It is pretty hidden . Its on the third floor and the drinks are pretty expensive. 2 beers cost us 36 dollars. I probably wont attempt to come again unless someone I know wants to hear some jazz.

What an amazing bar this is! You can feel the incredible vibe from the moment you walk in. It’s so classy and comfortable, high tables with low light and a stage where the band plays. It’s so cozy that time will pass by without you noticing. This is definitely a must go place in SF if you wanna enjoy great music, relax and have a drink.

I arrived at this place quite late so I was able to only listen to a few songs of the live jazz band and it was amazing.Got welcomed by the band walking into this place, which was quite funny. This is just a typical American classy jazz place, with long curtains all around, dark setting and low and high tables with a small light at it.Absolutely amazing atmosphere, would come back here for the full concert!

I feel as if I’m constantly giving my best kept secrets of the city - this one is too good not to share though. Mr Tipple’s is fantastic for a quieter less pretentious evening of Jazz listening. If you want fancy, go to Black Cat. Do note, during busier nights, there is a minimum of what you spend if you’re sitting at a table -well worth it if that happens. They have a small menu available or you can go through the velvet curtains to Hazels for more options.

My favorite jazz spot in the city. Theres no cover, and regardless of whos performing that night theres a great, lively atmosphere. There are small tables closer to the stage that provide a more intimate setting, and the area near the bar is quite lively and people are usually chatting and standing around. The drinks are great, the music beautiful. Highly recommend as a date spot or friend hangout.

Ordered through Caviar and really enjoyed the meal. We were unsure if their food would hold up for takeout but happy to report that this was probably the best takeout meal weve had since shelter-in-place began in SF a few months ago, and weve ordered from many places.

Love the vibes, music, and cocktails from Mr Tipples. From the moment you step foot into this place you feel like youve been taken back in time. The nights Ive gone they have a killer jazz band playing live. The low lighting, ambiance, and crowd make it all so magical. The tables are small and perfect for small groups or couples. They have a back area for a larger group with a few couches. The bar itself is so beautiful with lace and lighting on it. They have great cocktails and small bites. Ive tried 6 different cocktails and none of them disappoint.Definitely make a stop in here for some soul and spirits.Note they automatically add a 20% to your bill for tip so you dont have to worry about it and everyone gets the same service.

Mr. Tipples is connected to Hazel and you can order food from Hazel while you listen to live jazz if you can get a seat in Mr. Tipples! I didnt like how there are always reserved tables that are empty. They should hold them for 15 minutes and then allow other patrons to sit, as there is very limited seating. The cocktails are awesome, and the bartender made me some really cool cocktails the last time I went. Just let them know what you like and they can create something for you if you want to be a bit more adventurous!

Good music and good drinks make for a great experience. The lighting and mood in this bar is amazing. The atmosphere really feels like youre having a good time and its something I highly recommend you check out while in SF.There are a few things to be aware of, it is loud so dont go expecting to converse over the music. The drinks are also pretty pricey as well but the drinks themselves are pretty good and the cider itself is moderately cheap at $6 too.Overall its a great place and a must go to of youre in the city.

From the outside it seems like a glimpse of an eye. On the inside it reveals the gem of music and good drinks.Dropped by here after passing by it after a afternoon at the Symphony to come and find out that the music starts at 9PM. Live Jazz everyday in the city definitely makes the place quite appealing. Came here at roughly 9PM sharp and it wasn’t too hard to find a table. Ended up grabbing a old fashioned from here and It was made in a up glass. Definitely was made well, and had a good bitter while having just a little bit of sweetness. The live band was quite good. Definitely a good small bunch which were very entusiastic and do recommend checking the place out. Overall I do recommend the place as it doesn’t seem to be as packed as other places I have been to and have good drinks that don’t take too long to make.

This is my favorite bar in town, and I dont even like going to bars. Everything about it is so perfect. The live music is just the right volume, and so are the conversations; you can jam out to the jazz and talk to your date or friends without straining your ears or losing your voice. The spot is lit up in a warm, rosy color, and they serve delicious cocktails that makes you feel all tingly and giggly. I have never had to wait more than 15 minutes for a seat at a table, couch, or the bar. Such an amazing spot!

I have been dropping in to Mr. Tipples to hear Jazz whenever I am in town; Ive been maybe a dozen times. As many reviewers have noted, this is probably the only place in San Francisco where you can hear live Jazz, without a cover charge, seven days a week. All genres can be heard here: be-bop, Gypsy Jazz, ensemble swing. I love the variety. Drink prices are pretty standard for San Francisco. Service seems to have gotten a lot better. I love that the bartenders remember me and know what I drink. The big downside to Mr. Tipples is that, while its a great place to catch live Jazz, it can be a difficult space to actually enjoy the music. The acoustics are bad, perhaps too many hard surfaces. Very few people are there to appreciate the musicians; on Friday and Saturday nights, youll have a hard time hearing them over the din of the partying techies.

Good: The bartender was polite and kind. The music was not too loud. The atmosphere was comforting.Bad: Because the venue is small there is no formal dancefloor when tables are arranged close to the stage. There are some stains and cuts on the sofas. The bottom lit bar makes reading a menu difficult in the low light.

Great cocktails, good food, terrific atmosphere. Bartenders were less attentive than Id prefer, but who can blame them when the menu specifically states that patrons shouldnt tip due to the added gratuity; if you know people are told not to tip, then why do more than the bare minimum? Friends took us here and lets just say we dont have places as cool as this at home. The vibes are great, the crowd is eclectic and friendly. Its hip and elegant enough to have a great date night out but casual enough that you wouldnt feel out of place if you just randomly stopped in. We went for some cocktails and they were great and quite stiff. The live music was such a treat and the whole slightly speakeasy vibe was so appealing. Had a great time at Mr. Tipple’s with some good friends. Didn’t know what to expect going in and was pleasantly surprised. The only area of improvement for me would be that there was only 1 bartender for a packed bar, and a lot of people sit at the bar or stand in the way and hang out once they’ve received their drinks. It took us quite a while to get our first drink. But once we scored a table, service was great!Definitely check this place out if you want a fun vibe, chill jazz music and good drinks.

A hidden secret of the city. Love the music, friendly staff, nice drink and food selection. Only issues are that drinks occasionally take forever to make even if its not crowded, and they need to work on sound treatment. Too many hard surfaces, including the floor, make a harsh din from the otherwise killer music. Most jazz clubs have carpeting, which makes a huge difference. Im weird about these kinds of things though so you might not even notice. Definitely worth checking out.

Do
Review №97

Good music decent vibe although not much room for dancing.Beware they add 20% service charge and tax to your drink, so a $13 becomes $17 because the bartender wants to round up and not give the proper change (which is fine I dont want 36 cents but still). While I’d normally top $2-3 for a crafted cocktail, many of the drinks on the menu are pre-made and on tap. So you’re paying $17 for the bartender to pour a standard drink from the tap. The drinks are average for SF, certainly nothing amazing or noteworthy. It’s obnoxious pricing and indicative of the management not believing their clientele to be people who normally tip well. Even in SF, even with good musicians on stage, nearly $20 for a standard well drink is offensive. Take note management: this is why your club is half empty at midnight despite having hot jazz cooking in the stage. Nobody wants to sit for hours and pay $20 per well drink.
