WOW! What a meal! Bix is known for its great indoor atmosphere, and tonight the kitchen outdid itself. Try the Chicken Hash....and Chocolate Bread pudding? Youll be amazed!Tables are well spaced and convenient in a very open but quiet plaza outside the main restaurant entry.Note; Bix Beiderbecke (for whom the restaurant is named) was an incredible 1920s jazz cornetist and pianist. Im sure he would be proud of this music speakeasy!

Bix has adapted to COVID-19 well and still remains one of the best places in SF. Friendly and efficient service. Amazing food and drinks. You wont be disappointed with the tomato cart. And did I mention the martinis?! Yum!!

Wow! So many incredible things to say about this restaurant. I absolutely loved the 1930s feel. The food is amazing - not a bad choice on the menu. The service was excellent and very friendly. Loved the live music which was very much in-line with the decor and vibe of the restaurant. Everyone should experience going to dinner here! I had the pork chop and it was delicious!

Absolutely amazing experience. We come here 3 or more times a year. Live music each night after 8pm and a singer during the weeknights. Amazing appetizers that can easily become a meal for two. Romantic and fun. Definitely a date night, special occasion, or just because kind of place. Gets busy, so definitely consider reservations. Walk in for the bar where you can order the full menu. A must experience iconic San Francisco eatery.

I was taken here for my birthday , as were numerous others by the looks of all the candle adorned deserts that floated around the dining room. Its a popular spot for celebration and for good reason it seems. The decorum is wonderful and has a real speak easy feel to it, the paintings that hang from the wall are interesting to say the least ( have you ever seen a ballerina making out with a clown?).There was a jazz quartet that played throughout the night that really topped off the atmosphere.The food was wonderful, but the star of the evening was the service. I was accompanied by my girlfriend and her parents and the hostess immediately made us feel welcome and even accommodated my girlfriends elderly father with a chair to sit in while our table was being prepared. She had a staff member take drink orders for us as opposed to making us wait to be served at that bar. She did all this with a genuine sense of caring for comfort of us, and it was greatly appreciated. Our waitress was a delight as well and made sure we felt as if we were VIPs as well.I would go again for the atmosphere and food alone, but it is truly the service that makes this a place that you will want to visit again and again.Thank you Bix for such an amazing evening.

Pricey but food was excellent. Steak was perfectly cooked. Bone marrow was excellent. Crab roll was lacking on crab, heavy on the bread, and the oysters were miniature and heavily seasons. I prefer no seasoning with a dash of lemon. Overall it was a great atmosphere with tasty food.

The services and ambiance are amazing and so unique in San Francisco, a perfect anniversary or date spot ... the Jazz is great, but loud, so don’t make it a first date spot. The cocktail and wine list are excellent and the bone marrow is a must, so good! Only one complaint, the Caesar salad has little to no dressing and ends up with a watery no-taste with croutons.

Great secret location with entrance from the alleyway. Feels like a New York Jazz Bar. Fine dining with classy touch of piano entertainment. Menu has a great selection but a little on the pricey side if you’re not used to fine dining. This is one of San Francisco’s top 100 restaurants. We celebrated our birthday’s here and they certainly didn’t forget. They brought out dessert with a candle and nice card with a birthday wish. That was a really classy touch. Food was delicious and achieved our expectations.

We tried to walk into State Bird Provisions at 6:30 on a Saturday. The joke was on us. They only time they could have gotten us in was at 10 PM. In our defense, we thought that since it was a holiday weekend we may have stood a chance of getting in.

Fabulous cod and halibut entrees. Manhattans are their signature cocktail, they were excellent! Crab appetizers were delicious. The jazz trio was comfortably loud in this speak easy. Bartenders were attentive during our short stay with them, loved their old time elegant bow ties and white jackets. Even parking was a breeze in this financial district restaurant. We will return.

Good food, good service. The manager comped us an appetizer because he thought we should try it. It was expensive, however appropriate for the theme, food, and service.

Try to come here for my friend’s birthday. I was going to order a dessert for her as a surprise and trying to get advice on what is a popular dessert. The manager at check in desk responded very rudely telling me “she should just order it herself” (which is not the point). “How can we know what she likes” I made it clear I just want to get a recommendation and please don’t argue with me. He argued with me for 3 more times and I decided not to eat there ever again.

Summary: Great atmosphere, smooth live jazz background music, great service, and most importantly good food.It was our 15th Anniversary so we needed a great restaurant to compliment the occasion. Bix was it. Such a cool place with a great atmosphere. We came in the host was very polite he was ready to seat us for our reservation almost right away. As he was leading us to our seats my wife realized we would be sitting right on beside other guest on a semi shared both and table set up. We asked our host if we could sit somewhere a little more quaint being our 15th and with out hesitation he replied no problem. From that point forward the experience just went up. Dinner was amazing, I ordered pasta my wife ordered New York strip. Both were equally delicious. Our waiter was very attentive and helpful. And the end of dinner we ordered dessert and they put two candles in it to make us feel special. Great place and a must try.

Sitting in the shadow of the Transamerica building, halfway down Gold Alley, sits a little know gem called Bix. Walking into Bix is like walking back in time. Almost like you stepped into the middle of The Great Gatsby. It’s a place that is a throwback to days gone by, classic table service, and classic drinks in old fashioned glasses, an old fashioned restaurant with a speakeasy vibe. It truly is a unique little place, in the middle of the modern, cosmopolitan city of San Francisco.Make sure you order the potato pillows, because OMG, they are so good. Crab rolls, lamb porterhouse, truffle fries, and their Ube almond dessert. Seriously delicious food. Chicken hash ala Bix is also a must try. Good, old fashioned comfort food.I am never disappointed when I come here. If you get here around 8 pm, you will be treated to a live jazz band that will help complete the experience. If you come to San Francisco, don’t miss the little known diamond in Gold Alley.

This place has been around forever and I consider it an SF classic at this point. It sits in a little alley on the Jackson Square area. There’s a really interesting seating arrangement with tables on a second level that overlook the bottom floor. Feels sort of grand. The food is solid as are the cocktails. I say go here for the experience more than anything else.

Absolutely delicious! The black cod just melts in your mouth. Kiwi sorbet was also excellent!

Steak Tartare and a Martini!

For starters we enjoyed table side martini and a blood orange margarita. Both were amazing. Also the bone marrow is a must. Its so smooth and the bread is crisp and it is all very rich and yummy. The crab puffs are fantastic but just paled after the marrow.I had the sea bass. Now this is one of my favorite dishes and this didnt disappoint at all. So fresh and the asparagus was a great compliment. My sister had the lobster spaghetti. She said it was good but did need a bit more lobster. Our other friend had the chicken hash and said nothing but wonderful things about it.

Went after a full meal so didnt have a full meal. Short wait. The front staff were nice enough to seat us even for drinks and dessert only. We did order some apps as we suddenly got hungry. The Chinese chicken bites was nice crispy and moist. But the star appetizer was marrow on bone. We had some excellent negroni and Sazerac. Dessert was not too sweet. Only thing missing was a after dinner cigar.

Very hip and wonderful food. The lobster spaghetti was yummy. Will definitely go back. Parking is hard so take a lyft.

Super Upscale with AMAZING SERVICE. Like the best service, even though the street its on is more of an alley! But you better have deep pockets. $100-$150 is normal here for a couple. Maybe less than $100 if you dont drink alcohol (Maybe).Food is super high quality, but the portions are much smaller than you think youre getting for the price

Found this great spot walking by. Was lucky to snag two seats at the bar so we could enjoy some food. Great cocktails and very interesting takes on some classic dishes. The bartenders were great, providing spot on recommendations!

Not sure happened here. This was a great place once. Came for dinner for 4 and apps were great, as usual. Entrees were dry, flavorless and kinda cold. Really disappointed. No specials for the day, new and inexperienced staff. Dessert and apps great, entrees were a fail.

Location and atmosphere are are some of the best in SF. Cocktails and desserts are exceptional. Chocolate bread pudding is the best Ive had, highly recommend it. Great wine list, very good dinner menu. Wait service still good, but not quite like it was 5 years ago. Unfortunately, like many places in SF, menu prices have sky-rocketed ~40% in the past couple of years. I love this place, but dont go as often anymore due to these reasons.

Terrible experience- we wanted a nice birthday dinner and the food was ill prepared and not good. We were basically assaulted by the manager in the ill fitted suit and blamed for the meal- 300$ down the drain and the owners- curious to see if they have the courage and integrity to actually respond

Fantastic interior, like a 1930s high end speakeasy. The bar alone is worth a visit. Food didnt quite live up to the atmosphere. Staff were very professional, knowledgeable and attentive.

Loved this restaurant, super sleek l, nice ambiance, live jazz. I sat at the bar with my girlfriend for her birthday this past Saturday and the food and service was amazing. We loved the ceviche, crab rolls and truffle fries. The deviled eggs were not the best but they werent bad either. Food cane out nice and hot. I definitely recommend this for date night or hangout spot before going out.

I’m not sure who runs this restaurant, but the staff should be evaluated on all levels. We spoke to 3 different people, all of whom were equally rude, about modifying a reservation. Due to unforseen circumstances, we had a colleague that was sick and customers that were unable to join us - and they wouldn’t budge on their last minute change policy due “unrecoverable revenue”. To any other business, that would be poor planning, but to this business, it serves as a reason to charge $25 a person for an experience we didn’t have. If you’re the best restaurant in the city, I understand holding people to this standard - but when you’re not ... I’ll leave it there.

Nice ambience, very good service. Steak tartar and deviled eggs appetizers were both excellent. Bix is well known for its black truffle cheeseburger. It was average - certainly not bad, but definitely not outstanding either. If I go back, Ill try the scallops, which looked very good.

I really liked the vibe of this place. We were seated on the upper level, which made a great dining experience. We could see the colorful and beautiful bar from above. The service was a bit slow, we had asked for more bread a few times and didnt receive it. The food was good and I would definitely bring out of town friends for the ambiance alone.

Amazing jazz restaurant. Live music with Grand piano. Hard to find but once you do you wont be disappointed. Food selection is always changing and top notch. Also have a great wine and drink special selection. Recommend the old fashion. The ambiance is hard to beat and is perfect for a date night out.

For the price, this is a restaurant you can skip. The hostess was so incredibly rude and was yelling at me in the restaurant. I don’t care who you are, you don’t yell at your customers. Our service was mediocre at best and it took about 40 minutes to get our water. Entrees were unmemorable.

I loved their pisco punch followed by a scrumptious lobster roll and scallop crudo. We ordered the duck breast, lobster spaghetti and the lamb dish. All were very happy with the wonderful flavors. The portions could have been a bit larger. Otherwise, it was a great dining experience. The grand finale was a warm fudgy bread pudding, perfect for this chocoholic.

WORST customer service I have ever received in my life. My boyfriend and I flew in from another state and had made a reservation just to make sure we had somewhere to sit when we got inside. From our experience, you need a reservation just to get inside places like this on a busy Saturday night, so we were trying to be proactive. We were excited about going here for WEEKS. We arrive, are seated at a table, order drinks and a dessert. My boyfriend ordered a bottled beer, and I got a glass of wine. When our waiter find out we were not ordering full meals, he quickly removed all silverware from the table. Then another man comes over and rudely pours my boyfriends beer into his glass and advises that tables are reserved for people who get dinner just in case we ever decide to try this again. Then he just abruptly walked away when I tried to explain that we were unaware and had just come in from out of town. In the middle of eating my dessert, someone walked up and asked if I was finished, and then took the plate. We were basically run out of the place within 30 minutes of arriving. The music was nice, but the experience was horrible. Would not recommend to anyone.

A real cool mamma jamma, loved the live music and the general vibe was good.Low key really good lighting, aaaaaaand its top draw not to look like a Quasimodo on a date.I liked the food, lil bit spenny, but worth it.Also the Pisco Punch lives up to its description, pure angel juice hunni.

Very nice atmosphere and really great food. The staff was professional and knowledgeable. The place has a somber quiet mood in the dining area which check is perfect for a date night. Downstairs there is more of a lounge atmosphere. Best poached eggs I have ever had.

Staff was very welcoming and attentive. The space is impressive. Tall ceilings, columns, mural, balcony. Very stylish with an art deco style. We sat upstairs. As we looked more closely we noticed the upholstery was definitely from the 80s. There are also strange little 80s style squiggle decorations all over the walls. We realized the restaurants style is actually 80s art deco. Not sure if this is on purpose or if it got stuck there and was never updated. It unfortunately cheapened the ambiance. The steak tar tar was the best part, made table-side. The rest of the food was average. Some of the appetizers came out cold. Main dish was fish and it was average. For the price, I would have liked to be more impressed. I think Ill come back just for drinks and to listen to the live jazz they play, which is pretty cool.
