It’s been some time since I’ve visited here, but it was such a profoundly moving and wonderful experience that I still think about it. It is a powerful reminder of the terrible things that humans can do to each other, but at the same time, is an equally powerful reminder about the kindness that exists in people, and the tremendous strength of the human spirit. This was an absolutely engaging immersion into learning about the holocaust, and I am so thankful to have gone here. The exhibit where we got to talk to (a holographic manifestation of) a survivor was fascinating, and the rock garden was a perfect place to sit and contemplate not only what we had just learned, but life in general.

Beautiful building, very sad, and depressing. Heart felt, knowing that the possibility of a leader having the power to eliminate a complete culture is scary. This should never happen again. No one should have such power, and the world should watch out for this type of leaders to ensure that history does not repeat itself.

A very meaningful experience. I would say a better over all experience than the DC Holocaust museum - like yad vashem, where you exit and look upon Israel in all her glory, when you leave the museum of Jewish heritage you see lady liberty and New York harbor - a different homeland for the Jewish people. Worth the stop - free Wednesday and thruway evenings.

Be warned if you are planning to see the Auschwitz exhibit. After waiting in line for over 30 minutes to get to the metal detector, once we got to the ticket counter we were told the tickets were timed and our time would be 2 hours later. A simple sign in the lobby, or a message on the phone, would have been helpful. And unless you are actually buying tickets online (which is the way to go), you are not aware there are timed tickets for admission. We did go to the Ordinary Treasures exhibit and it alone is very moving and the Garden of Stones by Andrew Goldsworthy is beautiful. Sadly, timed tickets to popular exhibits are becoming commonplace, so one must safely assume that admission is not guaranteed upon arrival.

Very good exhibit for anyone that needs an exhaustive intro to the Holocaust, but can be redundant for others. A powerful experience. We visited the temporary exhibit, Auschwitz - not long ago, not far away, and it was eerily spectacular. Be prepared to get emotional as you hear the tragic tales and losses that people went through. It is set up over 3 floors and a must for anyone visiting NYC. Such an important piece of history should never be forgotten. They also have a virtual experience with a holocaust survivor where you can ask him any question you want and he will answer. It feels as though he is really there and is an empowering opportunity to hear just one of the many, many stories. Please consider adding this museum to your NYC plan; it will bring you back to very deep, human roots that everyone can partake in.

Overwhelming and awe inspiring. Just an amazing tribute to the victims of the most horrific event/time in history. The history contained within the exhibits is just remarkable and clearly defines the heroism of the victims and supporters of the resistance that must be preserved and taught to generations to come. The Garden of Stones provides a perfect metaphor for the struggle and perseverance of a people who continue to show that strength grows from triumphs over oppression and those societal divisions that spew hatred to others.

Amazing place. There is a stone garden outside the museum and the walls are made of granite. There are 18 large-scale boulders of various shapes lying on the ground, reflecting the strong power and extraordinary adaptability of the Jewish nation. A small cave was cut into each of the rocks as a planting trough, and then a dwarfed chestnut sapling was planted in the rock, so each tree was “long” with a small sapling. This unique The landscape has become the biggest feature of the stone garden.

As regarding Auschwitz Exhibition: a once-in-a-lifetime experience for those of us who, having never left this country and likely never will, can now view the epitome up close and personally in one place under one roof. Everything, EVERYTHING you could possibly want to know about the town going back to medieval times, the original land grant, the many times it became a part of one country or another, the Armistice of 1918, its development as a major rail hub and designation as a concentration and extermination camp. Hundreds of chilling original personal artifacts and utilitarian objects including a giant steel cauldron and wooden paddle used to prepare soup to feed a precise number of inmates. Spread over three floors, it will take you hours to process this purposely dimly-lit horror show. A treasure grove of documents, maps, charts and photos displayed in the original German language. Not for the squeamish! The tamper-proof Zyklon B cyanide pellet chimney-like chute, a photo array of the entire camp hierarchy, the epitome of evil: a section of camp bunks, inmate uniforms, color charts explaining the meanings of patches. Every time you feel you have had enough, seen and experienced enough, there is more, more and more. An absolute must-see presentation. Not to be missed! I have been to scores of exhibitions over a lifetime but nothing, absolutely nothing compares with the the precious, priceless artifacts displayed here each with a remarkable story. I only wish they could have developed a comprehensive catalog of every item shown. Nothing prepares you for this experience which you may have heard or read about. A truly momentous undertaking put together seamlessly in the most understated way. The first time was a preliminary overview. I realize now I will have to go back.
