The adventure area was awesome for kids and adults. Good and drinks are plentiful and spread out over the island so nothing was too insane. Adults can enjoy the lawn and walks (or biking) around the park. Make sure to bring own food and water (there are fountains) or youll be spending more than you want to.

Fantastic! Glad we finally came. MUCH larger than I thought it was. Bikes are a great idea to explore the island. Very good taco place or being lunch and a blanket and just hang out. Ferry from Pier 6 in Brooklyn Bridge Park made for an easy and scenic (though brief) ride. Relaxing and is a great example of yet another place in NYC where you just kind of pinch yourself and say am I really in the largest city in the US? Seems remote yet the skyscrapers of lower Manhattan are right across the water.

One of my absolute favorite places to visit and relax, get away from the city hustle and bustle. You take the ferry over and feel like you’re in a whole new world! They’ve listened to visitors about having free WiFi in the park, more bathrooms, and water stations. You have so much space to social distance. I love the lavender farm, it smells beautiful going past it. The red chairs are iconic. The views are unbeatable from the hills. Hammock Grove is so relaxing, you feel like you’re in the Caribbean. Just wish they had more food options open on other days besides the weekend. It’s beautiful in all the seasons that it’s open. Blooms in springtime, relaxing in the summer, and foliage and pumpkins in the fall.

Had a very good time over there. The ferry was free for NYC ID holder so that was a good surprise. Big enough to spend the whole day looking around for a whole day. My only complaint is they don’t have enough good food on the governors island itself. Governors island itself is pretty clean and all.

A brief ferry ride to the Governors Island. Small enough island to enjoy in one day either by bike riding or walking. Fair amount of kid options to play and enjoy, especially the Playground place. Food options are just ok and most of the food trucks seem to only take cash. Usually an event going on do you can watch and enjoy.

Excellent place to release the stress of NYC life. They have food vendors, bikes, hammocks, slides, zip lining, wall climbing, 2 Historical Forts, many activities for children. There is the hill with an amazing view of Liberty island, New Jersey and New York skylines. They have free bikes Monday to Friday for all the people that get there before noon. They have books exposition every weekend and free kayaking every saturday.

Fun place to visit with friends and family, especially to get away from the city; did not feel like I was anywhere close to NYC. It takes 5-10 minutes by ferry from either Pier 11 Manhattan or Pier 6 Brooklyn.Plenty of photo opportunities around, with great views of the city skyline and Statue of Liberty/Ellis Island. Recommend bringing your own food as the island food options are fairly expensive.

Governors Island is a beautiful, serene, scenic place. There is a museum, formerly a prison, historic mansions, brick streets and you can see the NYC skyline and the Statue of liberty. Wear comfortable shoes. Be prepared for lots of walking and bring water. Food and drinks are not readily available throughout the island. Only designated area. Great place to relax.

This was a former Military barracks which was off limits to the public. Ive always wondered what it was like on the Island and today its no longer a Military base its now opened to the public. A short 8 minute ferry ride across, brings you to the 172 acre island. Theres not much to do when you get there except walk the Island, or you can rent a bike to see some of the remaining historical buildings, and enjoy spectacular views of Manhattan from a great vantage point. Theres a few places to eat, one of which is an oyster bar right on the water with pretty views of Manhattan.

If you want a quiet place for brunch-ing and picnics, somewhere with a bit of history, a place to detach from the city but not too far.Enjoy the day and bike along the island, or seat and enjoy margarittas as the sunsets or just a peaceful neighborhood to hang out in....this is your spot.Bike rental can be pricey...so if you have your own bike, you can take it along the ferry going to the island.

Governors Island is beautiful and very clean. I attended the #PINKNIC event there and although I was a but disappointed with the organization of the event I was very pleased with the venue. I plan to go back just to have a picnic, but when it is a little cooler. 100° F is not exactly the best time to go since there is not a lot of tree coverage (at least in the area the event was thrown).

Awesome park! We were able to rent a bike and check out the whole island. It was a great time. I recommend visiting the island. I would advise you to bring food and your own bikes to save money. Or pick up a city bike and bring it over on the ferry. Id say have a picnic in the field in the middle of the island.

This is a beautiful, eclectic (if somewhat busy) park thats a weird mix of old and new. Ive lived in NYfor over 15 years and this was my first visit, deciding to go on a whim Theres a fort originally built in the late 1700s, but when you look in the windows of the barracks, the rooms look updated as recently as the 1990s, which is strange since no one lives there. The hammock Grove is absolutely lovely and the flora are beautifully kept. Food and drinks are ridiculously expensive though Will definitely make my way back.

Governor’s island is an awesome location to relax with family and friends. The ferry costs $3 for a round trip. It’s a great space to also chill and spend some alone time with yourself if you need to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city.I was there to conduct some research during FIGMENT NYC (2018) hence the large crowds, tents and art displays on the field. Though there were so many events on the island while I was there, I know that the island is big enough to always find somewhere quiet at all times during the open hours. The food trucks that are occasionally on the island can be pricey. So if you can, buy some food or put together a picnic basket before getting on the ferry.

Great place to relax and get rid for a while from the crazy rush at NYC. Ferry goes often for reasonable price. Whole island, lawns, gardens, play area, all being renewed and almost finished. You can hike onto a small rock with great views to all NYC islands. Just small dissapointment, that the fortress was closed when we were there in May and that the soldiers’s houses are not yet presented as museum of the life there during centuries, at least some of them...

If you only have a day or two in New York city, I cant stress enough how great governors island is. If you take the ferry at 10 a.m. in the morning as soon as it opens, the ride over is free. it has ample room to walk around, it has the largest slide in the string, and it has a place to play sports, relax on the grass, and plenty of trails for walking around. You can catch a ferry to Brooklyn from governors Island as well, and it was also free in the morning.

The ferry ride from Manhattan took 15 minutes and a roundtrip ticket costs $2. Weekend ferries are available from Brooklyn. There are no admission fees in the island. The entire island is car-free and walkable (expect at least 20,000 steps). Being mostly flat, it is also wheelchair accessible in most places. If you want a faster way to get around, bring your own bike or rent one for a fee at four different bike stations, three of them operated by Citi Bike. However, the bikes are not cheap and expect to pay upwards of $12 for an all-day use.The island has plenty to offer. For scenic views and outdoor photography, head to Outlook Hill. For history and architecture, check out Fort Jay, Castle Williams, and Liggett Hall. For green spaces, theres Nolan Park, Parade Grounds, and Play Lawn. There is a restroom near Soissons Landing, where the ferry from Manhattan docks, and portable toilets around the island.

Cool little island to visit if you want to visit for outdoor activities. It is like a very big park. The food trucks stationed are nothing amazing but not ridiculously overpriced either. Personally I would prefer bringing food for a picnic or barbeque setting. You can also bring your bikes and scooters which is pretty cool. Bring water and drinks as it is easy to get dehydrated. The weather was sunny and around 80F degrees but it was still very hot after walking around. The ferry that leaves in the morning is free otherwise its a small fee of 3$ for a roundtrip (the ferry back to Manhattan is free). The place is very clean with interesting historic buildings and plenty of space for outdoor activities with your friends and family.

This place has a lotta room for improvement. The schedule in high season on a weekday is only 1 boat at an hour. The golf and Maze are completely without umbrellas or trees and its hard to find a shady spot with a bench. After sweating to death, I went to get kids ice cream and they had no napkins. Seems the island doesnt want vendors to make trash??? I asked the bar restaurant staff and they gave us a cotton restaurant napkin for two 5 year olds... Then, they were rude and seemed only concerned about making $16 cocktails. After spending almost $100. I returned and asked for a plastic cup of water, I was told to wait 10 minutes so I said just give me ice and the bartender literally threw a scoop of ice all over the bar! I decided against the chic camping idea as well. The island closes at 6 pm and you cant go anywhere outside their designated area til 7am. Really?! Sure games and being without WiFi can be fun but you cant walk the grounds?Seems like they need to get their rules and regs to be more accommodating to people who visit and get sufficient staff to man the place for safety.
