We ate a Riscky’s dinner then walked the street at night with friends. Christmas lights, booths and shops and live music. Because of the NFR, the road and sidewalks were packed with jolly people. And you could see their smiling faces. It’s my idea of an old west town.

While it was cool seeing the small group of longhorns, I didnt much enjoy the crowds of gathering people in an area that doesnt require masks. There are come cute shops that we purchased some items for the kids, but after the longhorns came through, we opted to head out. It is touristy and thats why we were there, so I wont knock that, just it a bit much for us in these COVID times, thats all.

This place is so much fun to visit and explore its unbelievable. It’s like being transported into s time machine. Friday & Saturday are the best times to visit. Go early as they have shows, one at 11, the other at 4pm. There are two shows which are free and prominent. The cattle drive (cows walking in the street) and the Wild West show (which is inside the stockyard itself). It does get hot so be sure to wear sunblock. Parking and the lack of drinks and snacks options are a pain.

What a wonderful place to visit with the family. The longhorn cattle drive happens twice a day at 11:30 am and 4pm. Get there early to be able to stand under a shade tree and enjoy the show. After this there are a few fun attractions for the kids, lots of shopping stores and delicious BBQ and burgers.Stay the night and the street lights up with bars, restaurants and music. This should be a bucket list item for sure! There was a Cattle Auction happening VIA video feed in the building that also houses the museum. It was interesting. The cattle drive was different from what I expected.....these cows have done the same walk for so long twice daily that they just mosey thru.... its not like the cattle drives in the movies...(fast and exciting) it is still something you would like to see...There are usually a couple of Longhorns (complete with their own Cowboys) on the sidewalk available for you to take pictures on (saddled up) or beside. Very tame Longhorns. Very nice Cowboys... cost for a picture on the Longhorn was only 5.00 and they allowed as many pics as you felt like taking. There is a saddle and leather shop that is a must see. Many little souvenir shops mixed in on main street. There is a petting zoo for the children. I would allow a half day for all of this at most.....and you will see everything you want to see and more.

One of my earliest memories was seeing this stockyard station (not to be confused with the stock show which has more of a carnival atmosphere, though admittedly it has more actual stock.) This place is famous for the tarantula train, which unfortunately I didnt see upon my visit. Still visible are the layers of time that have largely been unchanged; you will see remnants of knob-and-tube electrical wiring as well as the original gate system that has started to fall apart with age. The areas where cattle would be transported through the structure, as well as moved into the train cattle cars should also not be overlooked amid the consumerism (which I highly recommend if you happen to be a tourist needing a souvenir, as anywhere else it might be hard to find something like this.) I only stopped by to photograph the building, and was only there near the closing time, so I was able to avoid the $10 parking fee.

Review №28

It was a little overwhelming because of the crowd but once you find your grounds for exploring, you can see steers and horses up close. In addition, if you find yourself there at 1130am or 4pm you can catch the cattle drive and a comedy gun shoot out. Parking is a plentiful but be prepared to pay $7 on weekdays or $10 on weekends. Only upside, it’s all day. The stores there are full of gifts but it’s the standard tourist finds.

If you wanna see the cattle walk you have two options. If you are a early bird you can go see the walk 11am in the morning. And don’t worry you have a second chance at 4pm. It’s worth to wait till see the cattle walk. You might be amazed by the long horn. There is a catch to consider. A guy there and directing people does very bad jokes. Here is the joke. Why some cows have a bell on it? Because their horns doesn’t work . Consider the watching rodeo starts at 8pm. You can eat, see live music . I enjoyed my time. Parking fee is 7$.

This is a great place to visit. There are shops and great steak houses and plenty of history to witness every day. In 200 years... this place held a serious importance to our culture and way of life for 30 of those years. A small drop in the bucket, but nonetheless important. The stockyards at Fort Worth was the primary reason that beef reached the Eastern seaboard and as such, should be preserved as such. Come visit. Shop. Watch the longhorn cattle being moved from pasture to pen. Embrace were our families got their meat. A 30 year snapshot in time can be found at the Fort Worth Stockyards.

The Stockyards is a historical place where cattle, longhorns, pigs were driven in herds to market to be sold. The original stalls are still there where they were held until sold. The original brick streets are still there. It has been modernized with tourist shops around it but you can see and feel the history of the place as you walk those bricks. Each day there is a cattle drive through there to recreate those that took place so long ago.

It is definitely a tourist trap. Now that I got that out of the way. Its definitely worth going to at least once if you are in town. It is very cool and interesting. It is in the middle of nowhere. One side is just abandoned buildings and just the vibe of you are not in Kansas anymore. The other side is a lot of construction. However between all that is a piece of gold. It is a old Western town with a huge covered outside mall? I dont know what else to call it. There are a lot of Texas themed gift shops (pretty much a given in a tourist area) and a lot of restaurants. BBQ and the boring burger joints. There is a old train that literally comes through the center of the place which you can ride. The Texas longhorns are there and you can see them and do a lot for free when it comes to the livestock. The roads and walkways are brick and there is only one road through for traffic which is nice. There are Texas longhorns out and horses walking around most of the day. like I said. It is worth the trip at least once. You wont be disappointed.
