This is an interesting place to visit if one is interested in history, with emphasis on the Civil War. There is a theatre located to the side of the gift shop where a short film is shown, on how brave Texas patriots entered the war. There is so much to see, 2 hours being a minimum amount of time. Also the gift shop has many items, my husband purchased a beautiful music box for me. Being new to the Ft. Worth area this was our first visit to the museum. We were very impressed with all the artifacts. A sense of honor, pride, and sorrow, was felt within us both.

This museum has an excellent collection of items from the Civil War that are displayed really well. Anyone interested in Civil War history should pay a visit. Amazing to see items such as Genl. J.E.B. Stuarts pocket watch, Genl. Robert E. Lees pocket knife and a coat worn by Genl.Ulysses S. Grant. There is also a collection of Victorian dresses. It was a real treat to see a dress worn by Jennie Jerome Churchill, mother of Winston Churchill. Put the family in the car and go. Youll be glad you did!

If you want to kill a few hours, this is a great place to go. Lots and lots of actual civil war memorabilia to look at, and it is quite interesting. It completely whitewashes any mention of slavery, but focuses more on Texas involvement in the war. Great place for history buffs.

Quickly. a disappointing experience! The alignment of North and South along each side puts a great perspective on the situation of each side. Loved the addition of the Artillery section since my last visit. The United Daughters of the Confederacy have made a great contribution to the back hallway. The Victorian dresses and apparel are a bonus and a special element to understanding life during this time in history.

This place was cool. I took my son so he could get extra credit in his 8th grade US history class, but we ended up having a good time. They have a scavenger hunt that is just hard enough that you cant breeze through it (unless you cheat) but not too hard that its impossible. Im glad I went just the two of us because if wed taken some of his friends like we originally planned, Id probably have been left out of the scavenger hunt.

I have driven by this place countless times over the last 25 years and even though I have a fair interest in history, I was never that intrigued by what I saw. My wife and I decided to go to the museum today and were very glad we did. This is one book that definitely cant be judged by its cover. The museum is very well done and very thorough. If youre a northern transplant, you might think the museum is just geared towards the south and or Texas. This is not the case at all. It is evenly divided between Union and Confederate exhibits. One aspect I particularly liked was that most of the artifacts were not just general representations of items used during the war but were documented and tied to specific soldiers or units. They have several items that were personal possessions of Generals Grant and Lee including the uniform jacket worn by Grant at Appomattox. There is also a very large display of Victorian Era womens apparel. If youre really lucky, as we were, a group called Buttermilk Junction will be there performing period music. They are a Living History Old Time String Band and are very good. You can see them on Facebook and or YouTube. Im sure you could call the museum and find out when theyll be performing. This is a very high caliber museum and definitely a day well spent. Its also well worth a long drive from out of town for a weekend in Fort Worth.

Very surprised at the quantity and quality of exhibits and thoroughly enjoyed the movie. This is a hot subject in U.S. History. The museum does an excellent job on focusing on just the facts. I was astonished upon realizing how rudimentary equipment and medical practices were only a 100 years ago. Highly suggest for childrens learning because of the strong visual impacts. Beautifully well-preserved Victorian gowns collection and the largest collection of Civil War flags available. Great comparison of how some things have changed so radically, such as technology and how some things have changed very little, such as a soldiers personal gear.
