An absolute landmark! One of the best city parks in Iowa. Plenty of hiking, picnicking, gathering areas. Great for any occasion. Beautiful scenic overlook of the Mississippi River and the lock and dams. Some of the oldest and best pavilions of any parks anywhere. Many modern conveniences with a cool rustic look.Dont miss the fish pond!

I had no idea I was headed to a park, I was just looking to get to higher ground for a photo. We came across this park entrance and decided to go in. The cost is a simple $1.00 fee. Driving up we noticed how nice the park actually is. We drove up to what is considered a lookout point. What a beautiful view from here. Very happy its a clear day and that we could take in the views. Plenty of parking, picnic shelters and restrooms available. Enjoyed about an hour watching the birds, boats, people and just admiring the views. Its also know for Eagle Watching which by the way the buzzards are flying around your going to get some great up close views of these eagles.

Historic large park with many modern playgrounds, clean rest rooms, historic prairie style pavilions- both open and enclosed. Bike baths, walking and hiking trails, mature forest and amazing vistas over the Mississippi, including Lock & Dam. Catch Bald Eagles & Turkey Vultures flying to & from their nests in the Cliffside. In addition to the many playgrounds, there is a fountain play area for kids 10 & under...weather permitting.Entry fee is $1 per car. Winding roads and lovely grounds are well maintained. Plenty of trash bins, even on a busy Labor Day.Accessibility Accommodations are very well done. Bring your camera or you will regret it.

The family loves this park. The views are great at the top. Look down and you can see the passage locks for the barges and maybe even see them used. Havent seen any eagles in the number of times weve visited, but plenty of Turkey vultures. When driving through the park and just before you get to the lookout area, make sure to see the HUGE coy pond. The pond is amazing with all kinds of rock structure around it. The pond is maybe 20 x 40 feet if I were to estimate. Worth checking out if youre in the area.

Review №39

Beautiful, spacious park overlooking the Mississippi. There is a nominal entry fee of $1 / vehicle. Plenty of shaded areas and many shelters for picnics. People do book these for events, so make reservations ahead if you need a pavilion. Otherwise, there are picnic tables out in the open areas too. The park is large enough that it does not feel over-crowded but it is definitely a popular place on nice weekends, so dont expect anything remote. You will not be off the beaten path.I had two small frustrations:- Bathrooms with running water are present, but they are spaced out so plan ahead.- It is a very spacious place with a seemingly endless winding road that leads through the park. This accommodates a large number of shelters, but makes it difficult to quickly find your destination. Allow a little extra time if youre coming for a scheduled gathering.

This is a great place for a family or company type party. There are plenty of pavilions that are well maintained with great scenery. The view over the river is gorgeous and there is plenty to see. The kids have all kinds of room to run and have a great time while the older folks visit and sit back with a few beers. The car pass was only $1 which is extremely reasonable so dont hesitate to take a trip around the park and see all that it has to offer!

Very cool public park. Lots of different playgrounds and overlooks and pavilions and all that. The parks best feature is the result of millennia of geographical forces which have raised the bluffs right at the edge of the Mississippi River. Grand vistas frequently showcase Dubuques natural beauty. I saw at least three balds eagles, numerous turkey vultures, and lots of aquatic birds. Ive been here several times in different seasons and its always great, but springtime might be the best time to visit.
