Cool piece of history!
A neat, historic spot. It is currently gravel around it an in industrial area and I thought, at first, I was in the wrong area. Then I saw the tower. I recommend doing the lake walk nearby as well
Kind of tucked away in the other side of a train overpass but an interesting story behind it. Great part of history that used the resources in the area.
Cool beans... Interesting 5 minutes of history
I would like to go to the top but I dont think thats possible since it was gutted by fire in 1911. Its a neat side stop near the Aquarium in an industrial yard.
The tower is by itself in an industrial yard. It is surrounded by an iron fence and inaccessible There is one sign describing it. Dont make a special trip.
Neat history. Across from the Stone Cliff winery.
Simple, unique and very interesting short visit. You dont need more than 15 minutes, but its worth the visit. This is not something you will see anywhere else.
This was interesting place to see. I would not set this as a destination place. If in the area, stop to see. Interesting insight to the process in making munitions in the past. This is in close proximity to the Mississippi River museum and the casino. There is a nice walking path along the river as well.
Not a ton to see at the monument, but conveniently close to the riverwalk!
Interesting historical building, in the back of an industrial facility.
Well maintained, clean and great materials to read and learn the history of the venue.
You wouldnt notice it if you were not familiar with it. In the distance it gets lost among the sky line since it really isnt that tall but when you look at the old photos they have of it you think, man there really was nothing here before this.
Great food staff could be more friendly
A very interesting piece of architecture, one thats been somewhat poorly treated in years past but has gotten an facelift in recent times. Outside of the historical plaque here theres not a lot to see here immediately but theres plenty of history that goes along with the building if youre willing to do a little research to find it out. If you need to know more check with the Dubuque Historical Society.
Shot Tower is a quick stop, but a fascinating glimpse into history!
Nice stop and a quick history lesson.
A great landmark of history for Dubuque.
If you like historic things in out of the way places this is really neat.
Who knew that shotgun shot was manufactured this way? Its amazing how creative and resourceful people were, before the advent of 20th century technology.
The history is far more interesting than the site. Visible from a ways away and depending on your location you dont really need to bother stepping up close. I wish the city would expand its river walk to include this site. Maybe even renovate the inside and offer public entrance. At the moment it seems like a forgotten artifact.
A unique part of the history of the Dubuque area. Some of our high school students wrote a book on it which is very interesting and very extensive. The Shot Tower itself is visible only from the outside but its worth pointing out seeing and learning how it functioned. Coupled with this should be the history of the mines of Spain and insights into lead mining in Dubuque
I think they should have a road back to the tower and make some space around it so not so close to the industry.
Pretty cool area! Visited here about 2 years ago. Its a busy area though and pretty dirty.
Simple monument. Represents the heritage of Dubuque, being lead mining. Worth seeing also it is near the old Star Brewery and river walk which are worth seeing in themselves.
This is a pretty cool place. I was here watching the Dubuque air show. And it was a great vantage point.
Worth a stop, close to the river front walk.
An awesome piece of American history well preserved
Great historical spot. Just wish there wasnt so many semi s. Someone could get killed. Watch your kids and pets if you visit.
Its a really cool historic site but dont worry about getting up close. The city needs to do a small renovation of the site, and it would make a huge difference.
Neat history, poor display. The city could benefit from extending the gardens of the river walk over to this area too.
Its in a weird location but neat to see
Great pub style food in a place that is family friendly.
The food was great. You get enormous portions.
Really cool historic landmark with signs right by it to show how it was used.
Very interesting & neat part of history
I was never there
Part of Dubuques history.
Great Historical Landmark in Downtown Dubuque
