From the moment I started, tuition began going up. I think by the time I graduated, tuition for my program had gone up nearly $10k.At the end of the day, what I got most from this program was friends and networking with classmates, direction from outside directors (not very often and not nearly often enough), and being able to live in Chicago. The conservatory program is not for everyone. Especially if you arent a fan of biased teaching/casting with more-or-less the same 7 professors for all 4 years. I know that playing favorites is a large part of how it works in the real-world, but its hard to wrap your head around as an 18/19 yr old in a safe environment where you are paying $30k+ a year.If youre SUPER talented, then you are easily excused from class/rehearsals, and anything else. If not, its a lot harder to get the ok from the Dean to audition or get cast in the city during your training. With all that being said, the majority of the faculty is amazing. I grew so much as a person AND as performer during my 4 years here.Like with any school, it is what you make it I suppose. I made it work for me, and watched some good friends struggle as they tried to make it work for them before realizing that this program just wasnt the right fit.Follow your heart and trust your gut! If something isnt a right fit (and you are able), then get out while you can and do what you must to do lead your dream.

Intensive orchestral studies program for students interested in studying the symphonic repertoire in-depth. With CSO and Lyric nearby, there isnt a better spot to be developing relationships with the best classical musicians in Chi.
