Its been a while since Ive been to live theater but I can tell you, without a doubt, that Ive never experienced such a profoundly moving experience as was presented by the cast and stage crew with Mary Shelleys Frankenstein. Not only were the performances delivered with intricate excellence but the staging of the performance continuously surprised me surpassed my expectations. The theater is housed in one of the only two buildings to survive the Great Chicago Fire, which makes it even more special.Congratulations to all involved!!

We loved watching the performance Frankenstein. The actors are incredibly talented and did amazing work with little space and props. Each actor took on multiple roles but the performance was never confusing. We sat against the east wall, towards the middle, and felt like that was perfect placement.

Such a great experience! This is a theatre in the round, which means you are surrounded by the action in addition the there being a small stage in the center. The actors were dynamic and passionate, the lighting was exciting, and the sound was driving. They have a bar with beer and wine, too!

We saw the Steadfast Tin Soldier play at this theater, and in summary - we are definitely coming back for other plays! Amazing play by actors, excellent music, vivid and realistic costumes, very comfortable length of a play - all add up to fantastic theater experience. And they are located in Gold Coast, which makes it very convenient to get into!

Saw a performance here on a whim. So happy I did so. Theatre is small and intimate and performance is in the round. There are only 4 rows so every seat is amazing. I had a front row seat and the stage was very low, barely two feet, so no problem seeing everything going on. Performance was very well done. Awesome place to see a show.

I love this theater! They consistently have amazing set designs and a good mix of inventive adaptations and original plays. Acting is top notch with some great company members. Favorite play so far has been The Little Prince with 20,000 Leagues Under the Seas a close second. Its not a big theater and they sometimes change the seating layout to accommodate sets, but youre guaranteed to feel close to what youre watching. They make sure its always accessible. Bar serves drinks and snacks (including hot coffee/tea). Location cant be beat either, as its literally in the old water tower on the Mag Mile.

Great historic location to see a play. Ive been a subscriber for several years now and have mostly enjoyed the shows. I especially like when some form of puppetry is included in the show. They also are experimental in the use of some of their plays, such as Act(s) of God. But I think their audience looking for something a little more traditional. Dont miss the big show of the year such as Treasure Island, Moby Dick or Frankenstein.

This is a great place that puts on great shows. Theyre kind of known for using wires, and other equipment, for crazy stunts that other theatres couldnt dream of doing. I saw 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea there, though, and it wasnt the best. I never read the book, but the story just doesnt seem to translate well to the stage. It seemed a little disjointed, and confused about what it was going for. I wish I lived in Chicago so I could check out a different show, and see how it compares.

I saw Metamorphoses here and was staggered by the acting and the staging. The theater space itself is very small and located in the basement of the water tower building in Michigan ave which in an of itself is a beautiful space to tour. The water tower location is a cool venue and Ive seen about seven shows here. Its black box style theater and some of the past shows have been visually stunning like Lookingglass Alice and Arabian Nights. I appreciate that they make interesting artistic choices but because its a small theater some choices dont translate well like their minimal props version of Our Town. I recommend seeing a least one show here.

Bi

Came into town to see 20,000 Leagues with our granddaughter and her boyfriend. The Lookingglass is an imaginative use of precious and historic space along the Miracle Mile. Its a small space, but that constriction prodded the production into employing their resources in some truly inspired ways - the underwater sequences were nothing short of ballet and the moveable center stage delightfully evoked Nemos Nautilus. Substantial discounts for both parking and dining at several nearby restaurants helped significantly in compensating for the sticker shock of the ticket prices. While the special effects and action sequences were helped rather than hindered by the constrictions of a small space, I think those same constraints actually worked against the highly expository nature of most of the second half. A great small theater experience, though.

LOVE LOVE LOVE everything they do. Ive seen at least 5 shows here in recent years and its a thrill every time. Their creativity and imagination never fails to delight. I think the thing that I appreciate most about this company is the fact that they put on work that has broad appeal without the condescension and lack of nuance that comes with some Broadway shows.
