Great trails that are decent on distance but friendly on steepness. Enjoy a few creeks and some North Carolina plants. Trails can be small but are well marked. Map is at trailhead so you can plan your journey. There are a couple stagnant ponds that probably product a decent amount of mosquitoes. Dogs are welcome but bikes are not. Went on a weekend and no problems with crowds. There is a porta potty at the trailhead as well.

About a month ago my friend’s car was broken into with window smashed. I saw another review left for June and this one happened in late July/early August. So this has happened at least two times. There was blood left on the vehicle and the authorities took the sample in to look for matches. Otherwise this is a great trail, I’m just really bummed that we don’t feel safe to go there anymore. If you go just be sure to leave your door unlocked and leave absolutely nothing in there if you don’t want your window smashed.

Great for walking or trail running.I went at 8:00 a.m. on a Thursday morning and only saw one other person. Parking is limited to about six or seven cars.Pros- There are four five different paths equaling about four miles.- All paths are packed- All the paths are shaded and wooded, so perfect for long walks during a hot Carolina summer.- Very few people in the morning.- Very quiet, cant hear any nearby traffic.Cons- Paths will get muddy in places after a recent rain.- Not sure how often the paths are maintained, came across several downed trees during my run.-While this didnt happen to me, another reviewers car was broken into so put all valuables out of sight.- No local facilities, but there is a porta-potty in the parking lot.

A beautiful place to escape the city, and feel like you are in a forest! Wear long pants to protect yourself from the mosquitos and prepare to walk in a bit of mud on some of the trails.

6/20/20 visited with my parents, they came from out of town. We came back from the trails and their car was vandalized. rocks were thrown at the window and door. Its sad as my dad had kept this car in perfect condition. We saw 4 guys circling the parking lot on bicycles (probably acting as lookouts). When we approached them, they left. I think if we were there a few minutes later, the window would have been smashed open. When we 1st arrived to the park, the parking lot was full. When we got back from the trails, there was just our car and one other in the parking lot.Its a shame because the trails themselves are wonderful. But, I dont think its safe for anyone to be there by themselves.

Quite small but very nice that is local. You can walk the whole place in a few hours with a variety of trails. Strongly recommend.

Very nice, wooded trail. Could be more work done to upkeep the trail but then again that’s the beauty of nature. I wouldn’t recommend small children on some of the paths and highly recommend women to never go alone or to have some form of protection with them.

Nice trails. Beautiful, considering its pretty much in the city.We went on a nice day in December and loved it.Be warned: its fairly well maintained, but quite likely to be muddy if its rained recently. The trails werent exactly well marked, but we didnt have any trouble.

Creepy woods! I went with a friend yesterday. We walked down a trail weve been to before, the only thing was for some reason they closed it off to hikers. As we started walking back we heard a big animal walking through the forest. I mean HUGE animal snapping branches and twigs, but whenever we would turn around or yell out to it there was no response. We kept hearing a grunt or a deep breath, in repetitions of 2. We heard it a couple more times until we ran back to the two ponds by the stone walk way.I dont know why they closed off my favorite trail, and I have never heard an animal like that before. It felt like it was stalking or following us. Just be careful, walk in pairs, dogs are a plus. You never know what you will see in these nature parks.P.S: My BF thinks it was BIGFOOT lol

4 stars since it was a beautiful spot as much as it was run down. You can complete a quick walk here in about 30 mins. Trails are beautiful and some wildlife add to the adventure. We saw toads, geese, and ducks. If you like nature this is for you. Best part is it is close to most parts of Charlotte.

Nice for what it is. Not as developed as some of the other nature preserves. Parking is very limited. There are no water fountains so bring some with you. There is one porta jon at the parking area which was well maintained. We hiked all trails there in about 2 hours, around 3.5 miles.

Ribbon Walk is an escape from the city, within city limits. Be advised that there is a grass parking area without restrooms, permanent staff, or security, although the parking area is often patrolled by police and rangers. The primitive, emblazened trails and mature, deciduous trees are the best features of this preserve. Its truly an urban wildlife sanctuary and one of Charlottes most special places because of its location.

Ma
Review №59

Some real nice trails, but there are some drawbacks. The parking area is way too small and too close to the main roads. This probably is the reason so many cars get broken into in this sketchy part of town.

Ch

My favorite part is the walk through the beach trees

B
Review №61

A few small sections are overgrown and the bugs were bad near the water, but this trail system was a diamond in the rough. You can faintly hear traffic in every part of the preserve, but its wild enough that you can forget youre in Charlotte. There are some informational signs that teach you about species and the history of the land. Trail markers are plentiful. This area is good for hiking or running, but I dont think cycling is allowed.

Although the water was kind of mucky, considering how close this is to center Charlotte I could not be happier. My experience was extremely great trails, mostly undeveloped, minimal foot traffic at the time of day we went. Also saw lots of turtles, sounds of woodpeckers, owls, birds singing, a very clean stream and large variety of butterflies. I really enjoyed my little escape there in a peaceful natural setting.

Needs a new map, trails are pretty clear if you have time to get lost. Going the back way you end up on a street way and you literally walk through the forest following rocks to find your way. Its super fun if youre into a woodland adventure without leaving the city. Weekdays and weekend evenings are pretty empty

Beautiful peaceful place to walk around and enjoy nature. No restrooms except one Port a Potty that doesnt get a lot of maintenance. Only a small gravel parking lot. No playground equipment or courts either. Just trails and a few tables and benches here and there. A pond is tucked away in there. Its a chill spot with basically no amenities.
