Nirvana Bench! After hearing about this landmark I had to drop by for a visit & a pic of course! Sirene & beautiful area! I cant even imagine what it would cost to live in this area, but if its anything like the San Francisco Bay Area I couldnt afford it. But Im just glad to be able to see it. RIP Kurt Cobain.

Went here in 2012. Was just a teenager then, but it felt very cathartic. Anyone who goes here and says it was boring... what, were you expecting Kurt to just rise from the grave, greet you with a high five and give you his autograph?

It’s Kurt Cobain’s memorial bench, next to his house, that’s all the park is about. The bench is very well covered with love, memories, and messages from the fans. Even though periodically being repainted by the city, the bench gets maintained by the fans to continue the affection and traditions.

It was surreal to be in the park beside Kurt Cobains home. Since I am a huge fan, I was emotionally moved just to be there and to see the benches with expressions of love, lyrics and other things written on it. Very cool!

Kurt Cobain’s house is right next to the park, there is a staircase but I don’t know what it went to it’s to the left when you walk up. The park is a memorial, I saw several other people walk up when I was there.

Several people gathered on April 5 2019 to remember Kurt Cobain. A beautiful soul with firey red hair and European accent has set up the flag and the candles. People were bringing flowers, singing, talking. This was a beautiful moment with people from all around the world gathered to remember a beautiful young man.

Really peaceful memorial to Kurt Cobain. As in the Aberdeen park, there are several groups of people coming from all over the world to remember Kurt in their own way. Bring an ink pen to write some lyrics on the bench, which has a direct view of the house he lived and died in (though it looks a lot different now). Overall, its a nice place to sit and reflect and pay your own respects to a rock legend.

Whoa! Hard to believe how many people go through this place. A shrine to honor one of the neighborhoods most famous residents. Also, a stop on many tours. Lots of graffiti on benches or it would get five stars. Plus, saw a 40 bottle. But, no one there today. Upper level is secluded.

There isnt much here so dont set your expectations super high and you wont be disappointed. Basically a small local park with no parking, nice little relaxing spot overlooking the lake, but the main reason everyone visits are the benches which have been turned into pseudo shrines to Kurt Cobain. The house he lived in is next door to the park but dont expect to see it. The current owners deserve their privacy and have made sure you cant see the house. Other than that it is a neat spot to stop and checkout what others have left at and on the benches.

The beauty and the grunge feel of Seattle all wrapped up in one little park. Check out the beautiful Kurt Cobain house and put a flower or two (Maybe even a beer or cigarette) on his memorial bench. Turn around and take in the beauty of Seattle and the surrounding waters. Oh! And dont worry theres another bench that you can take a rest on.

Sure theres a bench where legend Kurt Cobain is honored. But thats literally it and maybe were just old washed up rock fans, but definitely not kid friendly, we wanted to go see the bench and were traveling with our son and the park was dirty and we felt unwelcome with the crowd there toasting Kurt with drugs and alcohol. Sure we get it just a heads up to those Nirvana fans who have grown up and have little ones, it maybe one to leave them at home for.

We came all the way from Houston to see this park in June of 2014. No, really we have family in the area and were going on a cruise. But we are both huge Grunge and Nirvana fans in general, so this was on our to do list in Seattle. I did not realize how small the park really is, but it was fascinating. We enjoyed the waterfront view across the street. We will probably visit again when we go back in 2 years.

Ive lived in Seattle for almost 10 years now and had never before stopped by this morbidly famous site. Kurt and Courtneys old house, the spot where Kurt took his life (unless youre into the conspiracy theories about his death) and Viretta Park are right beside each other along Lake Washington Boulevard. Viretta Park is a tiny little lot that has only two benches, one of which is used as a shrine to Kurt. On the 21st anniversary of his death, I found the time to go to the house and the park next door. These days, the house is hidden mostly by vegetation and a big front gate. The above-garage apartment / greenhouse where Kurt took his life was demolished back in 1996. You can get a little closer to the house by walking down a well-worn path in the park, but there still isnt much to see from there. The bench is probably the only real site to see. Seattle parks repaints the bench, but it doesnt take long for it to fill up again with Kurts lyrics, photos of Kurt, fan letters, flowers, picks and graffiti. The closest relic of those days comes in the form of this tree, which someone had carved RIP and the date into - sometime in either 1997 or 1998. The tree hasnt yet fully healed, much like the fans visiting the bench today - still listening to the music and wondering what if.
