A very good photo collections and some artifacts dating back 100 to 150 years of Maritime history. The tools we use to navigate the ocean could very well be much different. Yet human comradeship and animal companionship remain the same from the photos displayed.

The museum is currently under renovation and doesnt have much of a collection, but the building itself is what is so interesting. It was a WPA project, originally to be a public bath house, and has beautiful art deco murals painted all over the building. The rangers who work here were incredibly friendly and informative. Looking forward to coming back when the renovation is done.

They have renovations still going on, so very little is on display. They do have a bunch of ships you can visit though (you need to pay separately for those, but its free on some days) and those trully are interesting. They even have a few guided tours with some interesting stories about the ships, so make sure to join if they are happening during your visit

Small little beach-side museum that offers some interesting information and artifacts from the Wharf. Theres not a lot to see here, but admission is free, so if you are in the area and have a few minutes to kill, its a good place to stop.

A grand place for a museum and within such an uniquely designed building near the water!! Lots to see and do within, and no entrance fee (as of a few years ago). While you are moving through the different exhibits and model vessels, please dont forget to admire the fabulous artwork on the ceilings, the walls, and in some places, even the floors!!! Also its a great view looking out past the municipal (curved) pier and the historic Hyde Street pier toward Alcatraz!

The Burton Building, built in 1939 as part of the New Deal, houses the Maritime Museum. There’s not a lot of exhibits but it’s free and a beautiful place to stroll. Photo taken from the Rowing Club.

Yes, there’s the obvious old boats to check out, which is worth doing. However, the hidden gem is the monthly sea chantey singalong. So much fun!

Really cool place to see artifacts for free. The models of ships are incredibly intricate and quite large. There are also some artifacts such a portion of ship that burned. A good short visit for people not committed to a full museum trip.

Was able to breeze through this museum quickly, which makes it a great stop when exploring the area. Its free, so its worth checking out to learn more about SF maritime and its history. The museum also has a really nice outdoor area overlooking the beach, which made for a nice pit stop to relax and get out of the sun before checking out what else the museum and surrounding areas had to offer. Good for all ages.

In all the years Ive been coming to San Francisco to swim at Aquatic Park, Ive never gone inside this one. Today I did and was glad I finally did. Its very easy to forget that San Francisco was founded on a maritime tradition. I especially love all the old photos they have on display depicting those days and telling some of their stories. A worthwhile place to visit (did I mention that its FREE?) the next time youre in the city.

What a disaster the entire maritime museum is. $10 a person to so called see the boats. Do not do that the only boat of Interest is not being shown for a year. Save the Mone terrible the other boats you can go on all roped off you cant see much. The visitor center is well done do that only. This the museum is an impressive building but its literally empty maybe 5 thinks to peek at. Not the 35,000 maritime history items they claim. Very poor worst national park ever and Ive been to most all. Avoid.

Just went here in April. Took lots of photos and video. The place is shaped like a big boat. Lot of photosand other items to see.The collection includes, ship plans and marine engineering drawings, maps and charts and oral histories and audio recordings and much more.In the Object Collections they have large parts of sailing vessels rescued from an undignified demise, to fine art created for the documentation and admiration of such vessels. There are items from the everyday lives of people making their living at sea.
