During the pandemic I try to enjoy “formerly crowded” places...This is definitely one of them. And ironically, we found some cool shops, restaurants, and more. The best part was leaving in the pedicab at the end of it all...

I live here near by.despite the pandemic. You can still go walk about.little tip about where to park...side streets west of piers and boardwalk. FREE! O and Alcatraz has a ferry boat leaving the dock.but the old holding cells are under construction. For a bit. Great tour when open 100%.you get a personal audio tour guide with headphones

Theres something for everyone in the wide range of shops and restaurants. We tried clam chowder from both restaurants at the front, and the one upstairs on the left was the big winner for flavor, texture, and bread quality. The one downstairs is larger.

Great place. The pier 39 is a must spot to visit during your stay in San Francisco. You can find a lot of restaurants and original souvenirs stores. Also you can take a boat tour. You can see the sea lions. You have a view of Alcatraz, Golden Gate Bridge, and Oakland Bay Bridge.

This is a must visit landmark in San Francisco. If you are driving, then car park cost would be high so finding a cheaper parking lot is essential. Otherwise, park further from the Pier by the roadside. We parked our car at the multi-storey parking lots directly opposite of Pier 39, and need to keep an eye on the time based on the hourly rate. The Pier is very crowded since it is weekend. There are lots of restaurants and souvenir shops inside, Dryers ice cream is a must try as well!

Being from the East coast, I used to come to San Francisco on vacation every couple of years & even though I find Pier 39 to be very popular to the tourist crowd & hasnt changed much since I first was there in 85.Since moving here (in the East Bay) 10 years ago, Ive been one other time besides this visit. And I must say, I found it quite nice going when there were only a few tourists bombarding the place. So if youre a local who doesnt like going to the tourist spots due to the tourists, now is the time to go but dont plan on eating there as theres not much open, although Guridelli Square is perfect for food options and not too far away.

I’m from out of town. Pier 39 had been a stop each time I’ve been in town. Great location with numerous shops to browse or shop. I’ve enjoyed dine in and the hot dog stands. Great spot to visit and enjoy a few hours in the ocean breeze walking through and around the pier... and make sure to make your way to the very back and take a moment to sit and watch all the sea lions! Great spot for date night, to take children or alto stroll on your own. Enjoy.

Pier 39 is a must see if you are visiting San Francisco. Yes, there is the Alcatraz Island and Golden Gate, but Pier 39 is there in the shadows too. The pier offers many stores, even a store for left-handed people. A merch shop that sells good San Francisco clothing. A outlook of the bay, island, and bridge. As well as a viewing area to see the sea lions that lay on the floating rafts through out the day. Highly recommend coming here to check it out.

If you check out my photos., Tell the story. Surprisingly there were quite a few shops that were open along with restaurants definitely no waiting no lines. A good place to shop and walk around. We could see the seals all day. The more you go into the pier the better the deals are. We made the mistake of walking into the first souvenir shop and it turned out to be more expensive then the inner shops...for the same products. But overall a good place to visit when in San Francisco. We were also able to see Alcatraz and take photos.

I realize of course that pier 39 is strictly for SFO tourists and that some of it caters to the gift shop types. But, all in all its a pleasant experience with some pretty fair restaurants and superior opportunities for people watching. Expect however to drop some coin while there (including a pretty steep parking fee). I was impressed that most of those walking about were considerate enough to wear masks.

Spent all the rest of our Saturday here and felt like it wasnt enough. Be prepared to do alot walking. The pier is big and has alot to do, see and shop at and places to eat. We stop by the Alcatraz boat ride first but after knowing that the actual builds were closed off, because of Covid we decided to do the Bay Cruise for a hour. Our cruise time was 6pm we got the day view with the amazing sunset view. It was worth it for the entire bay view. Visited some souvenir shops. This is a most visit place for everyone. Will definitely be coming back next time we are in town.
