This place was amazing. It was for a school paper but thankfully my teacher gave me a slide on wanting to talk about Rodin! I literally had no idea he created The Thinker. My favorite and maybe for many was The Three Shades and the story behind them. I cant wait for Legion to open its doors again.

Great View point with amazing views! We mini picnic’d as it was after hours! We watched the sunset to the North west, over looking golf course.

This is a gorgeous museum with great art shows!! Fabulous! I saw Catherine the Great’s diamonds there. The size of walnuts!! I kid you not. The drive up the hill to the museum is lovely, along a golf course. The drive along the coast is very scenic. Looks like the scene of a commercial for a very expensive car. Visit, and you won’t be disappointed.

The exterior of that luxurious building is the first thing that will impress a prospective visitor, you cant but feel yourself relocated into one of European capitals: heroic statues of horsemen and giant lions of the Imperial style XVIII century epoch staring at the remote SF skyline and the Pacific seashore simultaneously. The Thinker in the internal yard advises that you are now in ancient Greece. The interior is even more splendid with pieces of art, internal palace decorations, sculptures, applied art exhibitions in spacious halls representing the European masterpieces starting from the High Medieval Ages up to the XXth century. And Sprecless organ, of course. The lead organist of St. Ignatius Cathedral used to play that organ before CoViD-19 on Saturdays. Floor -1 is a place for a moderate prehistoric Mediterranian exhibition (3k B.C. -- III A.D.) and special exhibitions. The outstanding porcelain exhibition from France, Great Britain and German Saxony can be found there, too. At Floor -2, they used to arrange classical concerts in the dedicated chamber. It is a beautiful place to spend 1.5h up to 6h a day... and get back again in a week or two.

Throughout the rest of the museum, there is a lot of beautiful art all very thoughtfully displayed. We saw some Monet, Rodin, Cézanne, and so many other famous artists.They have a lovely cafe with really good food. Its a bit pricey ($18 for sandwiches), but at least it was tasty and we didnt have to leave.

So much fun! You take your own pictures, can rent a tripod. The staff is really helpful if you ask them to take a pic, guide you for cool poses, and best angles. Shoutout to photographer David that helped us get awesome pics and we bought the magnets after.

I have a lot of great memories after visiting Legion of Honor, it`s very impressive! You will love it especially if you have appreciation for Art! I took a lot of beautiful photos there.

This museum is now one of my favorites. Definitely a hidden gem... Rodin, Monet, Manet and other works of art... Beautifully set in amazing architecture. I like that its not very well visited amongst the tourists. If you pay for admission to the de Young, you get this museum as part of your ticket. Its like 2 museums for the price of 1! A must go! Parking is free across the entrance. The Thinker welcomes you... I just bought a membership because to see the special exhibit, you have to pay $28 a person. With 2 people attending, I figured I might as well. Plus membership gets you into the De Young which is a bonus.

Another fabulous place to visit, especially when SF is your home. Loved hanging out here during high school. Amazing view and great spot in Remembrance.

The museum is really cool.. I went there by bus and walked up hills.. the view is great, can even see the Golden Gate Bridge. It only took about 10-15 minutes to arrive at the museum. Definitely worth visiting. The museum buildings is awesome, the collections, such as quite a few Rodin sculptures, and classic pairing from Dutch, French, Italian and American. I love the special exhibition of early Rubins. It was awesome.

I have been in San Francisco many time and I get not tired of this awesome museum they have LOTS really LOTS of unique art pieces I am so please with the contributors of this magnificent place, hope these pics give you a glimpse of all the art you can see there, a recommendation is to try to spend some time over there because the place is huge, from outside looks small but it is so roomy

It was or is free on Saturdays. Cant get much better than that, very much worthwhile

I enjoy going here. Unlike other museums that tend to get a bit cacaphonous, the Legion of Honor tends to have that quiet, traditional-type museum atmosphere. I was here on a free day that is periodically offered to San Francisco Residents. The museum staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. I enjoyed my time there very much.

The building itself is worthy of a visit. It’s striking architecture transports you to another world. The art inside is striking as well- particularly the Rodin works. The size is manageable, it certainly doesn’t feel small if you’re taking some time with the works. Enjoy!

Legion of Honour. The name says it all. Why wouldn’t you come here? The art collection, building architecture and surrounding area are exquisite. The facility holds a grand collection of the great Auguste Rodin which is really quite eye-opening. I hadn’t realised how skilled this man was until you look at the artwork up close and personal. Would definitely recommend a visit as you can visit lands end in one hit.

Beautiful museum in a beautiful part of San Francisco. The museum itself is relatively small but with great prices from mostly European painters.Initially built as a copy of the museum in Paris, to house the collection of Rodin sculptures - are there are quite a few here.There was an organ performance when we visited and SF residents get free entrance every Saturday - being proof of address and ID. Save time to walk around the surrounding area afterwards!

I love this Museum, we like to go to special exhibitions. The regular exhibition shows such an outburst of European eclecticism through the centuries that its fun to go every half a year.

Perched at the edge of San Francisco with great views of the Golden Gate Bridge and water this Neo Classical museum houses a fine collection of traditional art. World class exhibits come though. There is a nice cafe on the lower floor and parking can be a challenge on nice days but still really worth it! Rodin sculptures and mock French rooms are my favorite!

This place and art are stunning. Pure magic to admire. If youre reading this review considering if you should go or not, take my advice and go! Its totally worth it. You wont be disappointed!

The museum was nice. It isnt too large to do in half a day. The courtyard with The Thinker was my favorite part.The cafe wasnt anything to write home about.Great views of the city and Golden Gate Bridge.Hiking trails and beaches are close so you can make a full day of the destination.

From ancient jewelry to Russian masters to modern sculpture, there’s something to delight every appetite!Plan a little extra time to take in the views from the trails at Lands End Lookout - the views outside rival the art inside.

Absolutely peaceful walking in and out of the rooms. Beautiful collection of paintings and sculpture, with a very friendly staff and reasonable entry prices. I purchased the membership which was only about $100 (also includes entry for one other person and acts as a membership for the De Young museum as well). Highly recommend for the art lover in your life.

LOVED IT! The exhibitions are masterful works of self expression. Egyptian Greek Catholic. I was lucky to see the Early Ruben gallery! His art work is so colorful an vibrant. The portraits seem to be alive. A must see if you get a chance. Definitely going back. The best part about it is the first Tuesdays of every month are free!

Early Ruben is fantastic! The guy was a genius. His paintings are beautiful, true works of art. Theres so much going on in them, such level of detail, and the way he depicts (high)light(s) is just wonderful. The test of the museum is well worth a visit as well!

I absolutely love the museums in SF but this has to be the highest one. The beauty/architecture of the museum it self. The artwork, I could just keep coming back. They also do some of the best exhibits.

They have a good collection of European art. Many sculptures by Rodin. I also like their ceramics collection very much. The building is beautiful, with spectacular views of the ocean and of San Francisco.

On a good day, park at Sutro Baths and hike up to Legion of Honor. Its worth it.

The outside area has a great view of San Francisco, allowing views of numerous famous landmarks including the Golden Gate Bridge. The Holocaust Memorial sculptures near the fountain area is very powerful.The museum itself has a good amount of permanent exhibitions on display. Bank of America customers can get free general admission on the 1st full weekend of each month! Just show your BofA debit card and a photo ID.When I visited, the Early Rubens gallery was the special exhibition at the time. Some very powerful pieces in this collection. Glad I saw it.The parking spaces by the fountain are the most convenient but they get filled up quickly. There are more spaces to the side of the museum as well as another lot on the way up from Clement St if you can walk up a slope.There is a decent cafe onsite if you need to grab a bite. But there are plenty of places to eat around the area.I recommend going early before 11am to avoid the crowd. Youll get to enjoy the place more that way.

Went to view the Mummies and Medicine exhibit for a class Im currently taking at SFSU. The Legion of Honor is wonderful to walk through, and has much to look at. Ive attached a few photos I took during my visit. There is definitely enough artifacts for visitors to make more than one trip.

Great collection of Rodins... Also loved the free guided tours, very knowledgeable and nice introduction to the collection... Plus can be easily combined with the lands end trail... A must do as long as the weather is good.

I saw the Gustav Klimt exhibit and a Van Gogh here. Need I say more?

Short exhibit on Early Rubens was very lovely and there were guided tours at 1130 and 1330. The rest of the museum was alright. Covers a wide range of work.

If you only have one day in San Francisco you should visit the legion of honor. Its views and art galleries are some of the best bin the world .. plus free parking!

Wonderful experience. We were so lucky to have run into Jonathan Dimmocks weekly organ interpretation. The wonderful music really adds to the art tour.

Amazing view from the lawn of the museum, while also housing a beautiful interior. The cafe and gift shop is on a separate floor, so it will not distract you from the art itself. The gallery is a good size, and is very easy to navigate.

This is a great art and history museum for the whole family. The location is perfect. The view. Of the golden gate Bridge are mesmerizing.

Absolutely fantastic place to spend a few hours. Very well organized, categorized by time period. Very interesting place to see art over the ages. Gorgeous statues, paintings, carvings, and other art (tea sets, armoires, desks, globes, porcelain, books). There is a rotating display, I got to see an Egyptian exhibit today with real mummies, ancient art and a modern CT scan of a mummies internals. They had a show with someone playing an antique organ (instrument), great music that you can hear throughout the museum.

Great place to take a date, friend or family, talk about art on an intimate level. Enjoy European fine art from antique furniture to sculptures and paintings. The museum collection includes masters such as Rembrandt, El Greco, Pissarro, Monet, Ruebens, Rodin to name a few. Theres always a great Special Exhibition to see at the lower level and the porcelain, comic book galleries and historical pieces behind glass in the lower hallway. Go early to avoid the crowds and maybe Ill see you there. I usually work on Saturdays only.

It’s a beautiful museum inside and out. I’m not a huge fan of their permanent collection but I really love the special exhibits that come through here. I also love the weekend organ concerts. There are free weekends if you have a Bank of America card, first weekend of every month.

Phenomenal art museum experience. I cant even put into words how much I enjoyed going to the Legion of Honor gallery. From the curated artifacts to the Rodon sculptures... Its a one in a kind place to spend a day or 2.

Came for Bank of America Forest free weekend. Totally worth it! Came Saturday around noon and parking was a bit tough, maybe took 5-10 min or so to find a space, but good thing it was free. There was a money exhibit so lots of people lined up for that. Too bad it costs $20 extra per person. We spend 2:30 min here. Wear comfortable shoes and layers, done areas were hot and others were not. The bathroom situation here sucks, only one set for the whole place so lines can get long. There was a good variety of paintings, furniture pieces and ceramics/statues from different eras and civilizations. Also nice view of Golden gate bridge from outside.

Nice, small museum where you can see a variety of paintings, sculptures, artifacts from across centuries- mainly European. Egyptian mummies are also on show. At $15, entry is a bit overpriced. Theres plenty of parking and a couple of tourist attractions nearby. Like The Lands End, Sutro baths, and Ocean Beach. The museum cafe offers basic refreshments. Walking through the 20 some rooms takes about an hour and half.

Mummies to Masterpieces...worth every minute! Also you get free same day admission to the DeYoung art museum, so prepare your feet! Id spend more time than one day if I didnt live so far away. Tip- check out a free museum stool at the coat check (just with ID) You can sit and enjoy your favorite art from any perspective.

This a lovely museum surrounded by lush scenery. The building itself is gorgeously designed and is worth your visit. Many pieces by Auguste Rodin are on permanent display, starting with his famous ‘Thinker’ in front of the museum. Their special exhibits are truly special. I saw the ‘Jewels of Maharajahs’ exhibit recently and it was an awesome collection. If you are interested in porcelain, they also have a large porcelain exhibit. By the way, did I mention they have Mummies? Cause they do. Museum staff is friendly and eager to help. They have free docent tours with general admission and the tour guides are knowledgeable and passionate about art. Remember you can also visit the de Young museum with the same general admission ticket for that day.

A beautiful museum both inside and out.

This is hands down my favorite museum in San Francisco. Not only does it have one of the original Thinker statues, it has a wide variety of Rodin casts. For a relatively small museum, they have a collection dense with very famous artists. Monet, Rodin, van Dyck, Rembrandt, Degas, and much more. They usually have a special exhibit on the lower level, where you can also find the cafe, which in my opinion is particularly good for a museum cafe. Your ticket includes entrance to the De Young as well if you can get over there same day.

Really great experience for myself and my family. Went to see the Early Years Monet exhibit. Fantastic. I didnt realize the Legion such a large collection of art. I was able to get through all the galleries with my elderly mother who uses a walker. My girls, 9 and 11, found interesting pieces in each gallery. Cafe was good too.

Free for military:) you can wander around for hours because there’s so much to see.

This definitely worth visiting Museum. There is lot of good collection of paintings and sculptures. There is also restaurant inside the museum. Architecture of the museum is simply beautiful. Above all there is free entrance for bay area residents on Saturdays.

The biggest hidden gem by the bay! Its a pleasant place to get away from it all and relax for a while. The museum year round always has a great collection of art. And for the past years theyve managed to get a Raphael or an old master for a rental during the summer period. Thats a big testament of how hard this museum works, at bringing you the best art possible.

Stunning views. Magnificent setting. Great art. All this in wonderful Bay Area setting. Cool, not hot and sticky like valley. No wonder this is many folks favorite city! Frisco is the greatest!! I left my heart in Frisco and most of my money too! Still its well worth it.

A great experience for a good price. The ancient Egypt exhibit was the most interesting, and the real mummy was very cool.

Many Rodins scrulpture are here. A beautiful building and many people who are taking wedding portraits are impressive.

Small but beautifully curated collection of European art. Some gems amongst them. Good cafe and stunning views of the golden gate bridge. Short walk to a good muni bus route 39 or 39R to the city heart.

Went to see Rodin/Klimt exhibition. Was disappointed that there wasnt very many of Klimts work displayed. The museum itself is really nice, but it is a bit small. It costed $25 to see Rodin/Klimt. However, this fee doesnt include the exhibition on Greek gods that was downstairs. You would have to pay a separate fee to see it. The perimeter around the museum is gorgeous.

Anna Spreckels gift to San Francisco, the Legion of Honor museum. Entering this museum, you feel as if you are in France. Today I saw the Rubens exhibit and I was transported into another time. Rubens like Caravaggio was a master at expression and realism.

Came here for Truth and Beauty: the Pre-Raphaelites on Sep 2018. Amazing Rodin collection. Best I have seen outside Paris. The exhibit was quite educational for kids. Definitely worth checking it out for art lovers and people who enjoy a bit of culture and history.

We always love coming here with the kids and seeing the great art exhibits. If you are a local San Franciscan you should become a member. If you are visiting from out of town definitely stop off and see this place. We just went to the Rhodin and Klimt exhibit and it was excellent. They always have fantastic exhibits and the information they provide on the art really helps give depth to the entire experience. You can also step outside and get a great view of the San Francisco Bay.

A well curated and beautiful museum, the legion of honor provides a digestible collection of fine art coupled with a beautiful view of the surrounding landscape.

I was fascinated by the antiquities and Islamic illuminations. The furniture and sculptures were also good, though I am not a Rodin fancier. There is a great emphasis on old vases and architecture, very historical. Do not come here for modern art.

The Klimt & Rodin exhibit was intimate and masterful. The boutique museum provided a great platform for one to admire and immerse in the poetic world of Klimt.

Great museum, great exhibits, not too huge and overwhelming.. perfect for a leisurely afternoon visit. Worth getting the membership if you love art and will visit at least two or three times throughout the year.

This is a great tribute to all of the people that have served, currently serving. I reccomend it to all people and would hope that schools would take students there. God bless those who gave the ultimate sacrifice and those who returned.

The permanent collection is very nice, but the modern art displayed throughout was just an unpleasant distraction. Also there was a much smaller Degas collection than expected in the Special Collection. The Rodin collection is impressive!!

The legion of Honor is a sister museum The deYoung and Golden Gate Park. If you go to both of these museums to see there temporary exhibits the price of the ticket roughly is $28. To just go into the basic parts of the museum for their long-standing exhibits the price is $15. it is very cost-effective if you go very often to buy an annual pass. So I got the annual pass at The de Young for $119 which emits one person plus a guess. You could buy a family pack that allows for people in annual pass but that price increases.So this may be like a fourth and fifth time Ive been to the Legion of Honor. They had their museum set up where the special shows are down the stairs and requires a special ticket. The upper floors has their main collection which is usually there year-round though it cant get rotated with other collections. Do take the time to walk around and enjoy the museum. You can actually get through the whole museum probably in two and a half hours including the special exhibit.You have to be mindful of where youre allowed and not allowed to take pictures. Its especially busy on the weekends of youre seeing a special exhibit its going to be crowded and parking may be a little difficult. also be mindful of what you leave in the car because there has been break-ins in the area.They have a cafe downstairs and a food is moderately priced and actually pretty good. Im a very nice day I enjoy eating out in the patio.

I love museums and though this one was small, its still a beautiful building that you have to see if you love architecture. Its also in a picturesque location where you can get a clear view of the golden gate bridge as long as its not too foggy. If you need a break from the crowds in the city, come check this place out, especially on a weekday. Parking is free here too, if you can find a spot.

Phantastic collections, the museum is beautiful!

My first time was June 30, 2018 I loved it! Wonderful exhibits, beautiful art, educational time.

Even before entering the place, the location of this fine arts museum is beautiful. The Thinking Man by Rodin adorns the entrance courtyard. This is a fairly small museum and (most of it) can be appreciated in a couple of hours. Definitely worth a visit or two.

Hosts a number of impressive artwork ranging from the Renaissance to ancient Egypt. There is also an area inside the museum that hosts newer artwork from artists that is always changing to keep things exciting.

This beautiful museum is not only an intimidating building of loveliness, it is also set on a site that affords some of the most beautiful scenery in SFO. Very affordable to visit, free parking, and a nice few hours of time spent.

Love this museum. The European furnished rooms and rock crystal chandelier are beautiful. The recent Casanova exhibition and audio guide was well done. The Cafe is a bit on the expensive side but is high quality.

Celebrated my birthday at the Klimt-Rodan exhibit with loved ones

My favorite museum in San Francisco. The grounds are beautiful and the view of the city from its front lawns is magnificent. Small collections but they pack a punch. I love the sculptures. If you have time, wander the grounds, there are great hiking trails all around.

One of the best museums in SF, and the views of the golden gate bridge and nearby walking trails are beyond beautiful. The museum features mostly classic art up to the impressionists, with exceptional special exhibits. A must-see in SF.

Mind blowing museum. From its breathtaking building to its fantastic collection. I would rate this maybe the best or second best museum in San Francisco (after Moma). Dont miss it!!!
