LOST SUNGLASSES HERE: Saturday 11/28. If found, please message me here.Really wonderful spot for sunny, social distanced gatherings. We out up a volleyball net and enjoyed walks to bison paddock and surrounding areas. Just beautiful.

A real gem. Big open lawn, enclosed within elevated tree line and quiet road. Bathroom on site. Hot dog vendor nearby. Great spot for families. Walking distance to other great spots!

Nice area for an outdoor socially-distanced gathering. Easy access and parking is reasonable in the morning and early afternoon. Public restroom available! In the mid to late afternoons it can get crowded and people are less apt to protect themselves or the others around them.

I went here for Hardly Strictly Bluegrass, an event that attracts well over 100,000 people. Definitely a sea of humanity. However, I find if one plans ahead as to what to see and at what stage, then its possible to get a decent spot and enjoy the music. So thankful that Warren Hellman left money after he passed to continue this amazing music festival.

The site of many rock concerts in San Franciscos hippie era, then known as Speedway Meadow or to some as Strawberry Fields. One of the most memorable was the Summer Solstice Concert in June of 1967. Two bandstands were set up on the Hollow. One featured the Quicksilver Messenger Service. The main bandstand nearer to the Polo Field had The Grateful Dead followed by the Jefferson Airplane. Two more bandstands were on the Polo Field, with the Ace of Cups at the side of midfield and Big Brother and the Holding Company at the east end. The Diggers served free food of grilled fish at the Hollow.

Named after Warren Hellman, founder of Hardly Strictly Bluegrass concerts and a great beautiful man. Look for a commemorative plaque on the East End. Used to be Speedway Meadow. Beautiful patch of green grass. A place for a picnic with a large crowd or a rowdy game of kickball (most of the time with beer). This is where the main stages of Hardly Strictly Bluegrass exist during the concert. Theres even a public bathroom there. Theres a asphalt path on the south side, that has a mild slope that good for young beginning bike riders and skateboarders. Hellman Hollow runs all the way down to the Polo Fields.
