I spend more time and money here (downstairs at the newish theatre and upstairs in the main jazz room) than any other place in New York. The acts range from good to legendary, and theres plenty of celebrity sightings and occasional surprise stage appearances by some of the biggest names in jazz and cabaret/Broadway. The menu upstairs is more extensive and more expensive - they have separate kitchens. The minimum at this club is only $10, whether food or drink, and its rare that I dont spend much more than that. Everyone is friendly and if you go often, they remember your name and your preferences.

To say that BIRDLAND was phenomenal is truly an understatement. The moment you walk into this lounge you are immediately surrounded by a positively charged aura of Top-Shelf-Jazz with a blend of delectable aromas which emanate from the delicious food. The entire place exudes classy jazz. From the decor to the professional staff; everything here was carefully calculated to reach a higher level of perfection for its ambianceWe came on BIG BAND NIGHT and they did NOT disappoint.Did I mention that the food was outstanding?

Absolutely amazing. Food? Amazing! Drinks? Amazing! Customer service? Amazing! We were in the lower level having an outstanding time with Troy Roberts, but if you get the chance to visit upstairs I highly recommend you do.Everything here is top notch, the decor is simply elegant but doesnt distract from the real reason for coming: the great live jazz! The bar offers more than youd think in a smaller sized venue, and the food was dynamite! You have to take the stairs because theres no elevator or escalator, so be aware, but they are carpeted and clean. If we are ever in New York again well definitely be hitting up The Birdland Jazz Club again!

The jazz was good but the food was very low quality. If you think you have a one stop evening out you have it wrong. The egg plant parmigiana was only Broiled egg plant with some sauce from a jar with some kraft Parmesan cheese sprinkled on top. It was soggy, not bearded or fried. The beet salad was fairly good, albeit a tad warm. The music was first class. We heard James Tormé and Veronica Swift. They did a medley of hits from Mel and Ella’s repertoires. Veronica was wonderfully rich with a strong range. James told stories about growing up with stars like Betty White, Jerry Lewis.

The venue had great ambience and is definitely a jewel in the city! Music was wonderful and entertaining, but the waitress could of been more aware of her surroundings. Besides getting swiped from my pony tail a couple times the overall experience was fun! We will definitely be back and arrive earlier for better seats in front of the band. (Fyi - only had beer and an appetizer...not enough to review the food).

New York City - Great band - Count Basie. Terrific atmosphere helped by a knowledgeable and enthusiastic audience. Good food - I had crab cakes and a chocolate dessert. My husband had a spicy shrimp and pasta dish followed by ice cream Service good and the staff dealt with a discrepancy on the bill tactfully and with good humour. Will go again when in NYC. Recommend, especially if youre a jazz fan.

This place was great. Every seat seemed to be good for hearing the music and seeing the musicians. The servers were Just attentive enough. The menu had some good choices on it although Im doing Dry January so I couldnt have any alcohol. Theres a $10 minimum but I was able to order a Pellegrino and it was quite nice. I never felt the server pressure me at all for anything more. The music was great.

Birdland is a cool place. Service was good the staff were nice. Unfortunately the drinks were mediocre and so was the performer Jane Monheit Quintet. We waisted a valuable New York night visiting from California watching her perform. She put the audience to sleep. I think we would have enjoyed Birdland more if there was a better performer.

Amazing venue to hear live jazz. Intimate and elegant. Wondering lineup of performances. Terrific selection of drinks and savory meals. We had the cheese plate appetizer, which was delicious. There is a $10 minimum the club imposes, which is understandable, given the economics of showcasing live music. Jazz is an American treasure that needs more exposure and visibility. We were seated up front, near the stage. Acoustics were incredible. There is not a bad seat in the place. Very impressed with the service and ambiance. A must see for any jazz fan.

We had reservations for Birdland to see the Freddy Cole Quartet on Saturday 13th July, the evening of the big power outage in Manhattan. We get to the club expecting the performance to be cancelled, but we’re allowed in.The club is dark, with only candles on each table providing light. Freddy Cole has been trapped in his hotel room – elevators are out – but his son Lionel is here, as is the rest of the band. Despite this, the show must go on, and they put on a truly atmospheric and memorable performance.

Stayed there on a Wednesday afternoon for the Louis Armstrong eternity band. We bought the ticket (30 Dollar) in advance but there was also some space for spontaneous guest. We had a very lovely table near the stage (be sure to come half an hour in advance to get the best tables). per set you have to buy drinks or food for 10 Dollars per person. The food and the drinks were on a good level, the Birdland burger was really good. The music was and the atmosphere were phantastique, the band played 1.5 hours which felt like half an hour.

Great music, of course. Thats what we came for. But also great service. Timely, attentive and most people were done with dinner before the show started. Guests of the first set were invited to stay for the second set. We felt much more welcomed than for instance in a Jazz club down on 3rd street where they are more pushy and more interested to get the crowds in and out. The Birdland is now one of our favorite Jazz clubs.

Spent my 50th Birthday meal here. This place is legendary, and didnt disappoint. Scheduled act couldnt make it, but replacement, Victoria Swift was awesome. Victoria, you really made my birthday. There is a minimum charge per guest to cover music. We had a table right by the stage. Intended to eat somewhere else, and just book here for the later sitting for music and drinks. The greeter said there was space now, and as the food prices werent too high, we decided to eat here instead.Food was great, the table in a great place, and the act sensational. After the first set was complete, you have the option of staying for the second set. There is a further minimum spend of $10 per head, but a couple of drinks covers this as you have already paid for the show. This goes down as one of my best birthdays ever. Good job Birdland for giving me such a great memory.

Ive been here a number of times. A cozy atmosphere where you are close to the talent. Dinner is very good, served quickly. The bar is great too and you can order food there as well. They dont over charge you for dinner either and in this city that is a huge complement.

First experienced the place in 2008 with my mother we were found it by accident. Always been a big jazz fan, but never been to a big band live event before, and wow they blew me away back then and they blew me away again this time. It is clear that the place has become a lot more turisty the last 10 years, but I feel that for a Times Square establishment with a great band, the price of both food and drinks are fair, and the service is fast and discrete. Warmly recommend!

My favorite of the jazz clubs. You can if you get there early get a perfect seat for any show and not be jammed in with other people. In general the seating is much more spacious then it is at the Blue Note Club. Dizzys Club Coca-Cola has more spacious seating but not the same feeling of intimacy. Theres something great about the two person tables right up front at Birdland. Music prices are reasonable and so is the cover charge. The food is decent - I think they make a real effort at it-- but certainly not great or fine cuisine. For some inexpensive early Friday night entertainment, consider the Birdland big band, which starts playing at 5:15 p.m. No music charge and only a $10 food cover charge. Come and have a drink or an appetizer. The band is excellent and is a true bargain as far as music goes in New York City anywhere near midtown.
