Came all the way from Philly to New Orleans and met one of my idols unexpectedly, we were just stopping here while in the neighborhood to get drinks turned around and the great Kermit Ruffin was in house!! Needless to say that this brother greeted me like I was a local and the people that was in the bar was really cool. The music was just our speed nice R & B flow. The drinks were not watered down and the prices were just right. I will definitely be back!!

Do you like live jazz? This is the best spot you can go for a Thursday night in NOLA. On our visit Kermit played, along with James Winfield and many other surprise guests, and served up delicious red beans and rice to a small audience. Kermit and everyone there were incredibly friendly and we had a great time. Highly recommend checking it out!

The most fun I had in a week in New Orleans. Went on a Monday. Briefly felt like the conspicuous white tourist, but nobody cared. Kermit was friendly. Other musicians were friendly. Food was good. Music was great. Wouldve stayed a lot later but my wife got drunk and silly. Kermits food didnt give me diarrhea!

Reasonable drinks, good food and wonderful music. Kermit Ruffins the owner is a sweet guy and smooth on the brass. Go there on a Thursday around 7pm for an awesome show by him and his band. The guy on the keys was a favorite for me along with Kermit. I seen Kermit on the tv show Treme and visited New Orleans especially to see him and the Treme area.

Kermits Mother in Laws is a lot of fun. You may have to step out of your suburban comfort zone, but its absolutely worth it and the people are welcoming. Its a no-frills. maybe standing room only backyard BBQ feel in the side lot, extra strong cheap drinks and the best party jazz in the city. Will be back every time we visit New Orleans.

It was fun, safe and I liked the fact that were two modes: One could be inside for one musical groove and go outside for another. Staff was professional and inviting. Food abs drinks were good. Predominantly African American and local clientele.

Its an ok club. Bit boring to me plus they charge 10$ for men to get in Sundays which isnt worth it. I suggest going to The Hideaway, Its a block away also 10$ yet way better value far as the experience, food & drinks go. Also The Hideaway is a lot more spacious. Should go to both and make your comparisons. Yet as far as value goes The Hideaway is better in my book if your going to pay a cover fee.

Being from out of state was looking for a true New Orleans Jazz experience. Kermit was referred by a local person who said if you want real jazz you have to hit Kermit Monday night for BBQ and real jazz. Better than what you find in the French Quarter. When we arrived the person at the door surprised my group with a $20 fee. Seemed reasonable though it included BBQ and 3 bands she explains. She failed to mention that the last band was performing and the BBQ was in the back corner in pots. It was not BBQ it was fried chicken, mac and cheese, and beans. Was being open so went up to the server and he gave me chicken and Mac and cheese with no beans. We explained the concern with the gal who took our money. She yelled at the server said give them more food. She also told friend just yell at him. Was like wow. Friend grabbed some beans. When she tried grabbing more mac and cheese he said NO. So the other friends didnt even try to get some beans. Went into mens bathroom after to wash hands. They had soap, however rest room smells like urine. No paper towels and no toilet paper, again surprised. Was very disappointed in the entire experience and didnt appreciate being miss lead to believing that we would see three bands and a decent BBQ. I have never given 1 Star but this place was just not what we were told it would be Poor customer service experience and filthy conditions.

Kermits Mother in law lounge Historical in that it was once owned by Mr. Mother n law himself Ernie K-Doe. Good time for all to had. I seem to always miss the crowd but from the look of the joint afterwards everyone had a good time. Catch Kermit Ruff there on Tuesday and Thursday. He even got his daughter jamming there a couple times a week and she too is good.

Kermits place has the best music and people in New Orleans. Youll be glad you went. He is super nice and all of the people around him are fantastic. He is just a happy guy who loves to have a great time. Hes got the world on a string and does a mean version of that tune. Q, Danielle, Nikki, Kabuki, and dirty rice (a serious chef) all treat you like family. Kermit plays on Mondays. Kermits band is top notch. He is not just a world class trumpet player with a one of a kind tone and a complete knowledge of NOLA classic music, but a great singer and showman. He also plays Get there early if its winter or raining as the bar is small and the seats go fast. If its nice, they will be in the huge backyard where there is a stage and a tiki bar. Thats the place to be on a nice night. Kermit is a chef who plays music on the side, so there is always fantastic real NOLA food cooked by Kermit himself and dirty rice that is on the house.
