The park offers visitors a variety of outdoor activities, including several hiking trails, fishing, and social opportunities at the fire pit, park pavilion and nature center. The park has two main trail networks on the property. During my visit, some portions of the trails were pretty overgrown, but they provide a serene soundscape and a variety of areas of natural beauty.

A really great place to just take a few hours locally if you enjoy walking or they have a couple of lakes for fishing if you like that. In these times, no better place to relax than walking around this park or go inside & pick up a little bit of local history.

I went to this park today for the first time! I had a great time exploring the trails with my dog. Margie showed me the art gallery, and gave me a lot of info about the park. She was so kind to me and my dog (which I am so thankful for). Thank you Margie!!

This place is overgrown with weeds. Its very unkempt. Im thinking noone has been there due to covid19 and its been closed. (The pond as your walking from the entrance past the buildings down the paved path the pond on the right) is full of what looks like algae. I did see some people catching fish at the cleaner looking one to the left. The walking trails in the woods you can hardly get through because there overgrown with plants, etc. Ill be glad when it gets back to a cleaner place.

I really enjoy this little nature park and the activity director is very kind. He allows our group to come in and use it even when it’s closed ... even going so far to open the building for the children to get a drink and use the facilities on a very hot day ... even though they were closed !My dog and I often walk here after hours and it’s very pleasant

My daughter loved this place. The trail we took was a bit muddy, but I expect once the warmer weather hits, itll dry up nicely. The nature center itself has lots of interesting exhibits for all ages and they even brought one of the snakes out for my daughter since I couldnt bring her up on the snake show days.

Je
Review №46

I havent enjoyed GONP during spring or summer yet, but weve visited twice and its been great! The first day we went for a snake show in the nature center and my 3 and a half year old loved it. Fed and held corn snakes, fed the turtles, and the staff were super friendly and interacted often in an appropriate way. We came back to walk the paved trails with the stroller and had just as much fun. I come to allow my children to explore and discover nature; climb trees, throw rocks, find bugs and animals, and just go at their own pace. Excited to get the smallest one in a carrier and tackle the unpaved trails this spring! Were so lucky to have this in Independence. Just wish the parking lot was open even if the center isnt that way families can still access the trails.

What a gem! If you want to feel like youre way out in the woods but dont want to drive to the forest.....here it is! Right smack in the middle of Independence is this hidden nature park. There are paved walking trails and rugged dirt paths for the explorers. We saw turtles, frogs, toads, deer and abundant insect and bird varieties. Bring a lunch and use the picnic tables. There is also a small fishing pond. We are going to be trying their kids hour long program this week.

My grandson really enjoyed the Enchanted Forest Park as part of Halloween event.

Pa
Review №78

I ran these woods and beyond, during the late 1960s early 70s; I was a Highleah latchkey kid, and this entire area was us kids natural playground. It was not a park then; the entire area surrounding the townhouses was all woods (w/ small farms & Bridger Jr.), and so there were deer and beaver galore; far more wildlife and wilderness than remains today, with urban sprawl consuming almost the entire area. But I am thankful that a tiny part of what was my childhood wonderland, has been preserved in this park. I go there now and then to meditate; as a naturalist it is a necessary part of my lifestyle. It is safe and well maintained, but the natural world is dwindling rapidly; looked upon by kids nowadays who must view nature and wildlife in display cases, with no real personal engagement with nature, like what we had back then. This property is that last stand; hope it endures.
