I stopped here coming home from my mission with my parents and my two younger sisters. We had a great time here. It was humbling to know that we had a great time. I cant remember the while thing but it was way better than going across the street. That other place I went to had mixed feelings for me. But when I got back outside and knowing that I served a great mission.I felt so much better to know that I was raised in Gods ways to live righteously. I have trials but I look back that gained a true testimony of my savior. My mission really changed me especially feeling a great attitude in the building I looked here in at the Visitor Center. It was a great opportunity to see how much I have grown. I would love to go back and see this place again.

First thing you see when you walk in its a giant statue of Jesus Christ, arms held out in a welcoming gesture. As it is a visitors center for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, there are a number of presentations of the Churchs history, as well as the Plan of Salvation, many with life-sized replicas of pioneer scenes. Its a place of peace and good feeling, with sister missionaries to guide you through the various presentations, or you can walk through and press buttons to view many of them on your own.

Well worth the time to gain understanding of the restoration of the gospel of Jesus Christ; the faith and challenges early saints exhibited and endured under harsh and hostile conditions; and the remarkable miracles manifested in charitable, compassionate, kind and tender acts of love granted by God and given by those within and without the early restored church. Those who provide guidance or tours are missionaries of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day saints and will share their witness and testimonies of the restored gospel and the truths contained there in, so dont be offended when they do. You may ask them how they came to know and the path and experience that led them to this knowledge...

This LDS Church owned visitors center covers the historical events from the mid-1800s when Mormons were building a community in the area before pushing westward. Independence is an important site for Mormon theology as well, although most of the focus is on the historical events. Its not a very large center but the missionaries are attentive and willing to share emotional experiences about their churchs and their own personal perspectives on the relevance of the events in the area. All visitors are welcome and although the center clearly has the intent of offering opportunities to proselytize, the staff isnt overbearing about it.

Very Friendly visitors center with a guided tour. Tour guides are Sister Missionaries from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They give a great presentation on the importance of families upstairs and then another informative presentation on a bit of Mormon pioneer history from the area. It was very peaceful in the visitors center. It felt like a place where when you walk through the round glass revolving door, you enter a different world. The beautiful statue of the Savior is the focal point. Although not a musuem, it has some museum like features. The guided tour is essential and not invasive or over bearing. Downstairs, be sure to check out the childrens discovery area, as well as a self-guided photo gallery from the early 20th century depicting many church history sites. You will leave the visitors center feeling enlightened, rejuvenated and calm.Allow about an hour for the guided tours and perhaps 15 minutes or more for photos and self-discovery areas. Enjoy!

Its really sad theyre attempting to make independence seem like some destiny location but look around the center and you see where the Devil has been busy. Independence houses dumpster up entire city while drugs run rampant in the schools. Liquor stores, buy here pay here car lots and cash checking business are the only commerce and take full advantage of the poor. Dont hype up a city that has a pop. of 3,088 homeless people camp in Fairmont area and thats just one area of the city while the churches walk around knocking on doors but not helping the needy. Its a sad attempt at creating a history that currently isnt how the city reflects itself currently.
