A place where Duluths history first happen. This old light house. A great walk on Park Point will take you there.
Its honestly a shame that there isnt more attention and love given to this historical site! It was Minnesotas FIRST lighthouse! And the zero-point for surveying Lake Superior! Yet theres no signage, no preservation at all aside from a chain link fence and over grown brush. Its definitely continuing to erode, too. Just a bummer for how significant it is to MN history. A hidden gem! And its nearby an old depot building and outhouse. All pretty neat!
Nice walk with the dogs to lighthouse and to superior boat entry
Great little hike on convenient island in Lake Superior.
The fence and overgrowth really distracts from the potential beauty of this old lighthouse.
Cool historic landmark. Be very careful of poison ivy which is growing almost everywhere off the sand trail (even in the trail occasionally).
Very sandy trail but nice walk though
Beautiful area
Nice easy hike out here
Its a great hike that takes you along a part of Park Point that most people dont check out. The trail is a mix of sand and packed dirt. Lots of people walk their dogs along here. It would be better with more signage about the history of the area and the lighthouse. Beware of Poison Ivy! You can get all the way to the Superior Entry on this path and watch ships come in. Well worth the hike!
Light was broken, I crashed my canoe due to the lack of navigational guidance this landmark once offered.
Nice hike. Beware of poison ivy along the trail. Be nice if the ruins had some kind of signage about its history.
I decided to stroll out to this lighthouse one August afternoon and man oh man was I in for a treat. Looks like a short walk on maps but it ended up being quite the trek. The trail had it all, tall trees, swamps, sand dunes, random teens smoking the devils lettuce, and of course the lighthouse. Its a very beautiful place to hike to and a short drive to get to the trailhead.
Beautiful trail
Great historic light house to check out
Sad they now have it fenced off. ..
If youre going to make the walk to the lighthouse, I would suggest walking an extra 150 meters and youll find an abandoned building too.
