It is such a fun and unique place to take your children. Theyre always changing things in there to keep the kids Happy and busy. They have activities for the kids and it is wonderful when the weather is cold out and you need a place for them to run off some energy. We have been going for almost four years.

This is a fairly small childrens museum with play area on two levels. There are many toys and exhibits to play with featuring local culture. Museum is orderly with friendly staff. There is a gift shop attached. Food is allowed but only on the first level. Large clean family restrooms. Exhibits are mostly design for ages 5 and younger. Good parking in two adjacent parking lots and on Street. $9 per person admission. Good place to spend a rainy afternoon.

Pretty small compared to the one in the cities that we are used to. I have a 5, two 8 and a 10 year old and surprisingly they kept busy for a couple hours. It turned out to be a great time filler. I felt the price was a little high for what they offer and can only hope they will expand in the near future.

Nice place to take young kids, especially in winter. The indoor treehouse/jungle gym is a good alternative to a snowy, slippery, cold playground. The museum is a little small, but that makes it easier to keep track of little ones. They offer hands-on activities throughout the day and have lots of random things to spark imaginative play, explore and climb.

My grandchildren have been going to the childrens museum for 8 yrs. We love it and that is the place they always ask to go. The staff is friendly and also show them how to use the equipment. They have different areas and also change things up. We go every month. This is our time to play together, they do skits for me at the theater, we play bank, love to make things at the magnet table and so much more. This is a great place, but you need to play with your children and help them use their imagination there.

More of a kids adventure/play area than a “museum” ... I was actually disappointed when we entered. Didn’t know where to park or walk in at first because the building didn’t have any signs except in small print on the actual door. Spent about a little over an hour with a 22 mo old and almost 4 year old. I would say they both had fun running around and playing while daddy and mommy watched and helped with imaginary play. Definitely not worth the $27, unless it was a rainy day and spent more time there. Would be more fun if the kids were older and could attend the activities that were planned for the day. The staff was very nice and were helpful and easily accessible.

We visited on a Saturday afternoon and it was not really busy at all. The staff was courteous and respectful. There are two floors of activities though the first floor does not have much to offer compared to the second floor. The exhibits themselves do not seem to have a big rhyme or reason why they are there. Every exhibit is standalone and does not coincide with any overall theme. The price of $9 for adults and kids is steep for what they have to offer and how long you can be there before you have seen everything. If they upped the quality of activities or lowered the price it would make it a better experience.

With our membership it is so easy to check in and the staff there are very friendly and have gotten to recognize us by name. Every week there is something new to explore and learn along with the familiar things. My daughter loves dressing up and playing in the giant shoe, while my son loves dancing on the stage and climbing aboard the boat-mobile.This is one of only a few places that I feel comfortable and safe to let my kids go and play on their own, create crafts to show me, and meet fun and interesting people.

I liked the space for my almost three year old - lots of activities for a rainy day. Second floor was overly congested to the point of not being safe. No safe space for kids under three to play though and NOT breastfeeding friendly for the baby or for keeping track of one child while feeding the little one. Im glad I have extra family with that could keep track of my older child while I paid admission to spend my time in the parking lot in the car. It was that or a bathroom stall.Update: In response to the owner/responder - I did speak to two staff members one on the first floor and one at the main desk and both stated they had no suggestions or options for a private space/space away from main play areas. Even a few benches off to the side or in a hallway somewhere away from play spaces would have been helpful.

I really liked the variety of activities they had available. A huge pit of lentils to dig and find fossils, over sized connect 4, checkers, and jenga game. Small table with books and board games. Upstairs you will see a shoe house, a theater with costumes, another old fashioned kitchen area, stationary car to climb into and pedal/steer, wooden train table, craft tables where you can glue, cut, and paint. There are tables with various types of puzzles, large wall of magnet tubes to create your own maze, and magnet display using your own hands on aluminum/copper plates to create your own electric current. If you have a membership at another childrens museum, you get 50% off. Our whole family visited for about $13, totally worth it for all they had to offer. Its nothing like the St Paul Childrens Museum, but totally worth it when the wind chill is 30 below!

Not worth the $9 per person! Its a rip off. The place smelled like people used to smoke cigs in it for years. Everything was dirty & messy. Other kids were out of control. They hoarded the golf balls, shoved other kids (including mine to get a ball that he was playing with), & ran around too fast. We moved here in summer 2017. We come from a city that has a moderate sized childrens museum which is very active and has a good balance between museum-ishness and indoor play area. Lets start off with the good about the DCM. The museum is small and cozy in a way being in a small building with two floors. Members do get half off discounts to the Zoo and Aquarium, a very nice offer. Staff is friendly enough.I fear however that weve been spoiled from other museums as weve had access to several other museums that were (admittedly larger), with more options (for more ages), more engaging and with a better layout. The DCM just feels.....unloved for lack of a better word. Some areas to improve....the lower exhibit changes only three times a year. It takes a child about an hour or less to see the changed exhibits which means if you have a year long membership, theyve seen everything there is to see in that short amount of time and theres no reason to use half of the museum again. The upstairs exhibits have only changed slightly since we first started and the primary exhibits have some issues....Theres an Ojibwe exhibit, a nod to Native local traditions (sounds very educational-ish), but kids never really played there (an ignored area = wasted space) as its just a hut and a video screen showing Natives picking/washing wild rice. And that same exhibit has been there for two years....TWO years. Theres a bank teller exhibit that has nothing there except some coins locked down to the exhibit. Kids spend zero time here because theres nothing to do. The movie theater exhibit has costumes and kids can dress up (many of the costumes have seen better days). The theater is cute, but it does use a lot of the little space that exists. There are glass display boxes holding some museum-ish trinkets inside of them that nobody looks and frankly get in the way of toddlers running around at mach 7.The DCM could be really amazing. Maybe the museum designation isnt appropriate because its very hard to be museum-ish with such a small footprint. Its hard to be all things to all people, that I understand. For the 1st floor, heres my idea.....What might be of value to the community in such a cold climate is a very well designed (permanent) indoor play structure area similar to a Perch and Play indoor cafe / playground (we went there in Bellingham, WA on many rainy days) that parents could monitor their kids while the kiddies expend energy. If it was well designed, it would be a very wise use of the lower space. Parents could monitor and talk to each other and kids could burn off calories in a place where they were looked after and safe. Maybe parents could even sip a latte? Make it a place parents WANT to be (and socialize with each other while watching). The upstairs could benefit from some changes (remove glass exhibits of things, get rid of dead exhibits kids dont use or maybe change them up more) and keep using the good exhibits that are working well up there. Also, install an Imagination Playstation area (google it, very cool)!!!! because thats a very creative way for kids to interact and build things together and its so SIMPLE....just designate an area and kids will really build/design whatever you can imagine (very museum-ish). There is a very strong need in the Twin Ports for something like this that meets the needs of families to have a gathering place as well as a warm indoor gym that helps kids and families come together. Whether that is a Childrens Musuem or Indoor Gym or a combination of the two, I dont know but I do know that if there was a fundraiser to change up the DCM, I would be the first to donate.

We took our two and a half year old here this past weekend and she seemed to enjoy herself. The second floor is filled withactivities that pretty much any age of young kids should like. There was a magnetic wall with tracks and tubes to make a party to run balls down, there were a couple of air related activities so kids could float balls or send foam bits flying up a chute, there was a Native American exhibit that was running videos about different aspects of maybe cultures, a play theater with costumes for pretend and putting on shows, a big ore boat replica to play on/in that has a slide and Im sure Im forgetting some things. My kid was most interested in the little steps you could go up and down, the wooden blocks, the magnet table with washers and nuts you can build up, and the track area with cars and bridges to rearrange and play with. There was also some structured exhibit(s) on the main floor but we didnt get to visit because our little one was pretty worn out from playing upstairs. When we were talking to the ticket/gift shop person, they also had mentioned that there were discounts if you had membership with certain other area businesses, like the aquarium, so thats something to look into if you go for a visit.Overall Id definitely recommend it for anyone looking for a fun way to spend a couple hours with their 2-9 year old, if youre in the Duluth area.
