The tour is a walking tour and it lasts about 45 minutes. The ceiling is a little low in some places if you are tall. Also, wear decent shoes as there is a little water in the cave. You will have to walk through some small puddles. There is also a flight of stairs that you will have to walk at the beginning and the very end. The cave is beautiful and the guide is very knowledgeable. Highly recommended. As of 9/2020 the cave is only available to tour by reservations only and the weekends fill up quickly so call ahead!

This tour was fantastic! Very knowledgeable and friendly guide/owner and really cool cave with lots to see. The history of the cave and the background on the formations were really well weaved during the tour. The owner takes great covid precautions and warns of some things beforehand like your shoes may get wet, which was appreciated. Really cool place to visit, would definitely come again.

Figuratively as well as literal sense of the word, Crystal Lake Cave is indeed a GEM! While traveling it is inevitable one will see billboards and most likely give little thought to it thereafter. My significant other and I were very pleased with our visit there. Friendly staff, informative guide and a rock-hounds dream gift shop all combine to give you a memorable experience. This is a must visit... period.

Awesome wet, drippy cave tour at 52 degrees. Lots of neat unique formations. White onyx and pure calcite formations. Our 3 young kids loved it! Gem mining is available through the gift shop. Recommend getting the large tan bag to sift rather than the small bags. It is much more worth the price tag.

A Cool place to visit! Literally. It was in the upper 90s today when we visited and I was about to die of the heat. That is until we went down into the cave. It was 50 degrees in there, and it felt great! I didnt want to leave. The tour was pretty cool too seeing all the different formations of stalagmites and stalactites. If you need a place to cool off on a hot summer day, this is a great place for that!

The tour is about 45 minutes by guide. As in most caves, its a good idea to have a light jacket because its about 50 degrees. Hiking boots are recommended. The gift shop is not too big, but there is an interesting collection of stones. The staff there are kind and polite.

Interesting, but only 3 stars for two reasons. We were here a couple years back and that was 5 stars, guide was amazing and tour was longer. This time guide was poor, sounded like she was reading from a script, the tour was also so short, we didnt see all the things we did last time. They skipped sections we saw last time. Felt short changed. Will not be back.

Stopped here on a family trip. My whole family loved it, even my 2 year old. You have to take the guided tour (otherwise you would definitely get lost in all the tunnels). Its easy to traverse, but there is water on the ground and some narrow and low passageways. There werent any bats when we went, but sometimes there are, so be aware of that. The guide told us they recently started spelunking in less explored areas. This is for adventurous people, who arent claustrophobic and dont mind belly crawling. Youd have to call for more details.

Was in Dubuque for an event and wanted to take my kids on something fun while in town. We go to zoos a lot so passed on the aquarium. Chose the cave. Kids had fun on the 45 minute tour but got a little long for the 5 and 2 year old. 8 year old really enjoyed it. Tour guide was okay...knowledgeable but didnt have the wow factor after paying $29 for admission. This is overpriced. Paid for a bag of sand and rocks to pan for in their outdoor panning station. The place just had tourist trap written on it but it was still a good way to let the kids run around.

My husband & I decided to travel to Crystal Lake Caves on a spur of the moment decision one Saturday morning a few weekends back. It was our first time visiting a cave & enjoyed it very much. We loved seeing the different formations & the tour guide was informative. We had good laughs about the cave dripping on me & my hubby was at the end of tour group, so he often go stuck being the one having to stoop down under low overhangs while the guide talk...not a complaint, we got giggled about it along with other tour members.I recommend visiting Crystal Lake Caves for a first cave visit. It was fairly cheap to do the tour & lasted awhile, maybe an hour...I didnt keep track as we having a good time. We were allowed to take pictures & did so quite a bit.
