Great place for a short walk (up to the monument) where you will be greeted by a spectacular view of the Mississippi River and also downtown Dubuque on one side. There are many hiking trail options around but didnt plan on trying the immediate ones out. Dont forget to consider this place if ever you visit Dubuque!

According to a confirmed reference, the Julien Dubuque Monument is the highest elevation in the City of Dubuque. I would give the Monument a five (5) star rating but, the history of exactly what happened is not factually true as far as Julien Dubuque being the one who found this area. The Mystique Native Tribe were the first to civilize the Dubuque area. The Mystique Tribes Chiefs name was Peosta.

Situated on top of the bluff inside The Mines of Spain, the monument provides a beautiful overlook of the Mississippi River. With lots of nature to admire, walking around here is very peaceful and can be enjoyed by anyone! There are no steps to get to the monument and there is also handicapped parking available.

A very gorgeous lookout point of the Mississippi River and downtown Dubuque. As you approach the turret where the founders grave is on the inside, there are a couple informational tables along the path which explain some history. There is even binoculars on a stalk by the turret where you can get a closer look at the city and surrounding areas!

The monument honors the work of Julien Dubuque. The Tower is a fitting tribute to the contribution he made to the area. Not a lot of time needed to view the site. A great view of Dubuque can be had for your time.

This a really beautiful location overlooking the river with a lot of a history this structure is actually a grave. The entire Mines of Spain park is a great place to spend a day or two. Lots of interesting landscape which is in short supply in the midwest. This area feels like somewhere else. This makes a good last stop after you have been hiking in the park since its an easy walk and really beautiful in the fall.

There was a naked lady who was being photographed against the scapular. Her photo shoot lasted 3 hours. Im pretty sure she was a D cup. Please advise everyone when she returns for her next session. Enjoy a beautiful piece of history and breathtaking views! It is a short walk to the Julien Dubuque Monument from the parking lot. Up there at the monument you can see for Mikes down the river. You see downtown Dubuque and you can see all of the boats going up and down the river. You can reach the monument by hiking from the catfish Creek foot trail lot or by simply driving up there. I would always recommend the hike. It is about a quarter mile without much incline. If you choose to visit in the winter you will have no choice other than to hike as the road up there gets closed in the winter. There are benches and visitor information and makes a great place for a picnic. One thing I was disappointed about is the fact that you cannot go up into the monument itself. There is a little memorial inside but the door is barred off. If you want an amazing view and a fun little hike. The Julien of Dubuque is the place to go.

A nice tribute to Dubuques namesake founder. Also, this monument has nice views of the surrounding river, bluffs, and trees. Romantic area to kiss a girl in the rain. Like I did that one time . With that one girl. Fond memories. Anyways, come here. Enjoy the Julien Dubuque Monument. Especially local Dubuquers. Hes our forefather. Respect.
