Unexpected tunnel on a really well-maintained dirt road heading up to trailheads, bridges and falls! Adventurous and fun to drive!

We werent sure about the safety of taking the dirt road back to town, but so glad we did! It was so scenic and less crowded. The tunnels are so interesting and all the history of the gold camp road.

Tunnel 1 and Tunnel 2 are part of an old railway called Short Line that went from Colorado Springs to Cripple Creek. You can drive from the parking lot Just above Helen Hunt Falls or from 26th Street. It is a gravel. road with no guard rails and at times turns into one lane road. The tunnels are also single lane. The views are amazing of Colorado Springs. The tunnels are fun. I read online where the tunnels are haunted but I parked my car and walked through them. I went early and not many cars but few bike riders. I enjoyed!

If you are visiting Helen Hunt Falls, make sure to make a trip further up the road to see Gold Camp Road. Very cool sights. Not often does one get to venture through tunnels of solid rock! Very narrow dirt roads, I recommend driving slow, and pay attention around curves as there isn’t much room to two cars to pass each other comfortably. Be courteous!

Extremely scary. Youll experience a ghost for yourself at this tunnel. Put baby powder on your car and there will be hand prints all over it after you drive through the tunnel! Gotta experience it for yourself

Very cool tunnel in the mountains. Wonderful views on the way to this location with plenty of pull offs to really soak in Colorado Springs and as far as the eye can see. Definitely a great place to visit if youre just in town for a few days. Kids have a lot of fun too while driving through the tunnel. Check this place out if youve never had the pleasure of doing so yet! Youll be glad you did.

It was really cool. This tunnel is straight so its easy to see someone coming from the other direction. Its a 1 lane tunnel but there are pull off places to allow for traffic.

Absolutely worth the drive but be cautious due to the road. There comes a point where gravel meets pavement and this is when you can decide keep on going or turning around. If youre not concerned with the gravel road, youre in for a treat! Be mindful that this turns into a single lane road, so keep your speed slow. Locals can and do drive this road with no consideration for others and you WILL have someone riding your tail. Overall, the views of the Springs is one not to miss! There are some pull offs and I do recommend to stop and get out. The whole area in general is the Colorado natural beauty one seeks to find.

The history behind the tunnels are fascinating and the accompanying view over Colorado Springs makes the trip up to the area worth the trip. Just be aware that the road narrows into a single lane for the tunnels.Side note: Seems there are some local ghost stories about this location.
