Sondermann Park is a fun little park that is unusually green for the city. Perfect place for adventurous kids! Looking forward to spending more quality time here!
Theres so much to say about this park. Its within walking distance to my (previous) home, and a great any-time-of-day hiking option for me and my pup. Many routes to choose from, including creek-side paths, so its sure to suit everyones needs. Biking paths are available as well! Such a beautiful, magical place.
I take my nanny kids here almost daily. Awesome nature park in the middle of the city. Easy paths and a creek that we wade in....
Love the park so many plants and fungi to experience. The stream is just lovely. Ive seen others like myself picking up trash so its really clean
This is such a Magickal little park.
Great hike lots of friendly hikers
We love to explore the trails at this park. Caution, in the summer of packing a lunch you may have problems with yellow jackets. Make sure to use the bathroom before coming too since there is not a public restroom. Great trails for children and pets.
Quiet and small playground with wood chips. The 5 senses trail is well done if you follow the prompts they have posted along the small loop. Both my kids love that trail. The trails leading out of the park are perfect little low land hikes with minimal elevation change. Great place for an easy walk with your kids and/or dogs. Be aware for summer - not much shade or trees if you head west on the trails. The northern trails have a bit more shading. Happy hiking!
In the summer time there are so many small deerpath-wide trails that take you from dry dessert to lush forest in a matter of minutes. Animals allowed on lead and there are a few good shallow swimming spots of you know where to look.
Trails could use some maintenance because they are not clear
Development to the north is ruining it.
Restrooms would be great. Overgrown weeds and parking area scratch vehicle. Lots of trash and dog poo. However, very refreshing walk along the creek on a hot summer day
I am from Oregon. Colorado Springs is my dads hometown I am visiting. I loved Sondermann Park for walking my black Labrador Retriever. He enjoyed exploring through the park.
Very cool park. A little of something for everyone. Easy to access and the kids had a great time on the playground equipment. Will definitely return.
Local treasure, nice setting with a creek and tall trees. Many trails, one very easy along the creek, others being advanced.
I enjoy the simic country like feel. I loved that place it had walking trails, as well as, bike trails. Had a place that my grandbabies could play very well maintained and safe for kids from a walking age and up! It has a stream that is ankke deep and little higher . Very nice place for young kids. Also, to relax when k was there right before dark it was very quiet.
Quiet and beautiful. Easy hikes with a slight elevation.
Be careful, its a very big park, i got lost for two days in there
I enjoyed walking the western loop, and I fell in love with the creek there. Perfect zen spot.
Great place to walk
Its a beautifully subdued strip of nature in which one can easily find peace
Great place to go for a jog or to go to kill some time
Come here all the time to walk the trail and enjoy the peace and calm noises of nature and stream that runs through!
Alot of trails. Some crazzy people hanging around so be safe
Great hike to have the kids along in. Very easy terrain, some learning on some trails, a little playground. Can still hear the highway, but you dont feel like your close to the city unless your on the hilltop overlooking it all.
Great short trails. Family and kid friendly and the Catamount institute has some great programs as well.
No signage hard to find
I wish it had a swing set but the hiking trails are gorgeous.
Lovely place to hike.
A great place to take the dogs for a walk. It is right in the city but you feel like you are really outdoors.
Lots of dog poop. So sad that folks are so gross. Otherwise the park would be lovely even though homeless folks camp there at night and are a fire risk. The parking lot and playground have gone downhill over the years since Catamount took over the center. More garbage and weeds and they sometimes lock the gates at 4:30 which means park goers snag street parking from people who live in the neighborhood.
Cool place!
I love the trails! Exporing new places & getting the fresh air for a healthy stay of mind!
Out of the way, not too many people,I never noticed it being nasty in any way.if there are homeless they dont seem to mess the place up like they usually do.
Small, quiet park west of I 25. Visitor center usually closed. Lots of trees, creek and access to open mesa area west of park. No open public bathroom last time I was there!
A great hike in the neighborhood along the foothills and stream. Although its within bounds of a populated neighborhood, its not often that I run into anyone on its several trials.
Nice little open space in the middle of town. Several access points on the east side but little from the West. Feels wonderfully secluded. Lots of trails, and the main ones are well cared for. Unfortunately, many are close to bikes, which is silly because they are hardly used as evidenced by the weeds growing through them.
Its big, open rolling hills WARNING: It was a landfill for decades! Garbage pops out of the ground randomly, sharp edges, rusty items, medical waste. As an adult its Good if you bring youngsters here, dont let them get far from you and stay on the trails and OUT OF THE WATER, you will be okay.
There are a lot of bugs, but kids love it
Its an okay Park I could not find rest rooms. the river that runs through the park is one of the most nastiest Rivers I have ever seen so definitely dont let your dogs drink out of it I also think its a good place to run into a rattlesnake.
Wonderful forest with a creek - great place for kids to play and explore. There are a number of trails, all easy. You can see a lot of structures built by kids at Catamount Institute, and those are always fun to find, especially if youre a kid yourself. No bathrooms available, though.
A jem in the heart of Colorado Springs, too bad all the new construction along the extension of Centennial Boulevard is encroaching of this riparian oasis.
Beautiful. Clean. Small playground and fun 5 senses hike. Variety of birds and wildlife too.
Great park for a morning walk.
We absolutely love the parks & open space our city has to offer.
This is a great place for kids to explore nature! There are a lot of trails to wander through, and there are picnic tables to sit down at and pull out some snacks.
One of the best kept secrets in Colorado Springs.
Dogs lived it fun trail
Parks in Colorado Springs need attention. Ever since the cuts to the city, parks like this one just are suffering. These parks need the basics, like trash cans and general upkeep. Maybe start a volunteer program or something -- that might be asking to much of our civic leaders. They can barely organize themselves without worrying about organizing volunteers.
Its a fun little place to see the woods if youre in the neighborhood.
Nice quit place to visit
Its a place i used to go when i was a lil girl to get away from my parents when they would fight. It would relax me and i could forget my pain inside. It was peaceful. At night it kinda looked like the beginning of tales from the darkside.
What a gem.. never knew this park even existed in COS.
Our kids love this place. Theres so much to explore. Minnows, crawdads, butterflies, and water bugs to try and catch. Its hard to believe its right in the middle of the city.
Colorado Springs hidden treasure - just a mile from downtown, but hard to find. Quiet, mostly used by local, great place for dog walking.
Great for walking, hiking, biking or exploring on your own or with the family. There is a small play structure here, but you come for the trails!
Great park!! Take some time to go enjoy our Parks!! Visit them ALL!!
We love our home-base at Sondermann Park! Catamount Institute provides outdoor science education in the park as well as other outdoor locations around the Pikes Peak Region. During the summer we host Summer Camps in the Park. If you ever have questions or need a map of the trails pop in our offices to say hi! If you ever come to the park and the gate is closed that is OK just park in the cul-de-sac or on the street and walk by the gate. Some of our favorite trails are the Lilac and West fork trails. Be aware that when you go through the gate on the Northside of the park you are leaving park property and are on a greenway trail. There are many social trails further back that go over an old landfill and are fun to hike up but is privately owned undeveloped land. Have fun and enjoy nature! The first Saturday of every month we host a meditation in the park.
Slice of heaven.... shhh don’t tell
I go here every week with my kids to spend time in the forest. There are picnic tables, hills, dirt slides, a stream with a bridge. I just wish theyd fix and open the bathroom up the hill.
The open space for off leash dogs is great.
Its so close to home and such an awesome day hike for the family.
GOOD PARK...BRING A LEASH.
Great park with lots of trails along the creek! Love the wilderness feel of it!
Nice but lacking in some needed areas like trash cans! Not sure if people would use them if they were provided but having the option might help.
This is Colorado Springs secret garden. If you havent been, and care for a lovely afternoon stroll, this a remarkable midtown spot.
Very nice Community Park beautiful trails nice view of the mountains
Great creek system for kids and dogs.
Great park. Good variation. Love it.
An easy access from I-25, this park offers a permanent stream emanating from what might well be one of the original springs of Colorado Springs. If you park at the Catamount Institute parking lot off Chestnut and West Caramillo, you can head over a quaint bridge up westward trails that wind the foothills of the Mesa, or north along the creek, on the wider and easy going Mesa Valley Trail. Take the single track eastside of the creek trail that meanders through meadow and scrub forest with more native species, including the wild carrot seen in photos. This has been a family favorite, with dams and bridges and makeshift forts and plenty more fallen wood to make your own! In the Fall, you can lay next to the stream and look up to the sky, let the abundant leaves fall all over you as you unwind to the voice of the calm and persistent waters. A major stopping off point for migrating birds, and a corridor for mammals moving between the mountains and the plains. The only reason I did not rate this with 5 stars is because we prefer very little contact with people on our nature walkabouts, and Sondermann will not give you that privacy.
My dogs love this secret little place! Its their favorite
Pretty good place to take kiddos.
Great place for an easy hike along a creek.
Great easy hiking trails through rolling hills.
No homeless camps nice place
Awesome park
Cute little park for bird watching and playing in the stream.
This is a great little park on the western side of Colorado Springs.
Great place to walk and explore
It kool
Really nice place to hike!
I love this trail.
Parks and more parks.
Wear long sleeve pants
Quiet park, not crowded at all.
A beautiful open space, but the trails arent maintained very well (I would go so far as to deem some of them unsafe).
Jewel within the city, great quick hike
Good dog walking area
It is a good nature park.
