This is a very cool and free museum to visit in Colorado Springs! There are a number of rotating exhibits and a few that seem permanent. You can even choose to ascend to the 2nd floor in an elevator built in 1917! Exhibits themselves range from Native Americans and artifacts of different tribes, to Farming and Western artifacts as the United States became what it is today. The employees were very kind and my fiancé and I really enjoyed the experience!

Fantastic displays. Very fun fort kids play room. Treasure hunt map for kids of all ages to find objects throughout the museum. Van Briggle pottery room in honor of the couple who made the Springs their home. Native American displays. A surprise exhibit of the author who wrote the novel Ramona (which I was named after!) and others. Well worth your time!

Staff is very friendly and accommodating. Maybe not the best place for very small kids (they have one room that is dedicated to kids, but most of the museum is geared toward adults). The combination of history, artifacts, and art is impressive. The elevator is cool and ask one of the staff about the history of the building itself -- its very interesting.

Great place. So many areas of history to explore. Old old elevator is just awesome. The building is a must see for great workmanship and details that you can not find anywhere in a building today. Absolutely must go when you are in town. Free to get in and I highly recommend you make a donation to keep it going. Must stop by the gift store. The older lady running it could be the most knowledgeable and courteous lady in the world.

Where can you take your family on an outing for a few hours of enjoyment that costs nothing? The Colorado Springs Pioneer Museum in Colorado Springs, CO. The staff there is informative & pleasant and there is no shortage of history or displays to submerge yourself into for hours. Along your tour of this museum, are spots to stop & play dress-up for a bit, while snapping some fun photos. Additionally, there is a gift shop inside so you can take a piece of history home with you. This museum is appropriate & captivating for all ages. Wonderful way to spend an afternoon and it cost nothing except for the parking meter out front!

I love history so only natural to visit here. It is free to get in but during covid they ask that you go online and schedule your date and time. When I got there I was greeted by many very friendly people who offered their assistance if I had any questions. Its an old court house with multiple floors of history. Theres stairs to get each floor but there is a 1917 Otis elevator too. That was fun. Lots to see and learn about Colorado history. I would definitely return.

Beautiful museum, well maintained. Its free! Very nice and helpful staff. We didnt know how to operate the 1917 otis birdcage elevator and someone kindly walked over and thoroughly showed us how to use it. The museum placards and the text and graphics within them dont look outdated. The building itself is an old courthouse for the county converted into a museum with a variety of informative exhibits such as American Indians through the lens of Rolan Reed containing really striking photography, archaeological findings, as well as showcasing influential people from Colorado Springs. The museum even has something on Nikola Tesla, because he used to have a lab in Colorado Springs. You may be surprised to find out who else is from Colorado Springs. There is also interactive touch screen maps where you can explore points of interests around Colorado Springs and learn more about the people who lived at those places. So take a few hours to explore youll surely find something youll want to learn more about!

The TB section is neat but come on there has to be more to the history of CS.I would enjoy more local history about the people that settled here and the people that thrived here. This is a well maintained and well valued (free!) local museum. The rotating exhibits and community events add a lot to the downtown cultural offerings, and the permanent exhibits hold vast catalogues of the city’s history. Some exhibits are overly text heavy which can make for a laborious walk through, but museum staff and volunteers are super knowledgeable and very kind. If you have time, ask for assistance or information from anyone at the front desk. Be sure to also walk the grounds in the surrounding Alamo Park, one standout of the downtown park system.

Very rich in history as it relates to the Colorado City and the earliest known settlers. Theres a hands on area for the kids with a teepee and ride on horse, even a lil general store counter. Theres also an exhibit specifically on African Americans of the Colorado Springs area. This is of particular value to me as a parent of a biracial child. Some of the pictures and stories helped solidify for her that she isnt the only nor the first mixed race person. Alot of hostory on the Ute Indians and those that settle in Colorado Springs back in the days. I was surprised to see a Ute Indian woman that resembled me in my younger days, my grandmother was part Ute, so she could have been my distant relative. She is the one standing with quite alot of attire-19 picture below.... you wont be diappointed. Bring the family.
