Very quaint and quiet, path is dead end and unlined though. It likely gets slippery after it rains

The trail is a little rough. It needs to be better maintained.

Small piece of property that seems rarely used, at least in the colder months. It gives you the place to yourself. It isnt particularly quiet, its very close to some high traffic roads. You will hear the drone of traffic in the distance. If I hadnt brought the dog, I may have lost the trail. If youre looking for a quick stretch, definitely worth a try.

My boyfriend and I drive past here constantly so we decided to go on an adventure here one afternoon. The front where the stone placard is is maintained well. The path starts off nice but starts to get more overgrown till theres no path left and it stops at a dead end. Its a good local historical spot but it needs a lot of work. Keep an eye out for wildlife in the underbrush and thorny vines.

The forest here is okay, and Im glad its preserved and protected from construction. However, the traffic noise here is so horrible that I couldnt so much as think about anything other than getting away from the place as I tried to enjoy hiking the half-mile trail.

The place is not well kept. A lot of trees are down and need to be removed.

I came here to show a friend why the new NC license plates say First in Freedom. Theres not much more than the marker stone to see, but it is a cool place to check out at least once and give yourself a chance to read about the first Declaration of Independence in the US (a year before the the July the 4th one!)

I drive by this landmark every day, and decided to stop in today to check it out. Aside from the stone wall, the marker, and a couple of picnic tables, this landmark/park has nothing. It is obvious from looking through the glass display that this park is not maintained, simply from the number of active wasps nests in the display. The park needs some maintenance. Some pine straw, mulch, strategic pruning and herbicide placement, and perhaps some gravel along what looks to be a path to nowhere (make the path a loop, and those of us nearby could walk it at lunch time).I believe this marker has potential, but for now it is an embarrassment of a Mecklenburg County roadside stop.

This is pretty cool history about both Charlotte and the state of NC. Not a lot to do there though. Theres a short hiking trail.
