Came here to ghost hunt at night right before they closed, me and my husband were the only 2 people there. We were standing by some very very old infant graves .. there where like 5 graves that all said the same DOB (quince?) that died like same day they were born or couple days after ( this was like 2 years ago- so dont remember the dates exactly).. and we were standing there recording the graves when all of a sudden we started hearing a lullaby song playing (caught it on our camera) and we couldnt tell where it was coming from. Dont know where it came from, only lasted about 5-10 secs.. either way its super creepy cool place to visit at night.

It is full of history and very neat to see all of the old headstones. Many 19th century ones, very cool.

If youre looking for a new unique experience go walk around Oakwood Cemetery. There is so much history and so many stories on the gravestones. Many very important people and families are buried here. The vast history of Austin is reflected in the graves of this cemetery. The gates are closed at night, so go walk around and just experience this piece of old Austin.

As a Mortician by trade Id say this is one of the oldest and most well maintained cemetery Ive come across, beautiful landscape, lots of history. Worth the drive.

This is a rather large cemetery located just across IH 35 near downtown. If you get the creeps from the dead then you might want to consider the Texas State Cemetery (its really nice). Oakwood is old and it shows all of the historical tombstones and burial plots. There are a lot of historic figures to check out there so be sure and bring the supplies for gravestone rubbings.

Huge cemetery with lots of history. This is my first time in Austin, visiting from Chicago & this is definitely a place worth checking out.

The other half of this massive cemetery. Still fascinating to see how old some of the graves are. I recommend visiting here if you can (and dont get creeped out by it).

This is the oldest cemetery in Austin and a great place for history buffs and paranormal investigators. Legend states that the first tenants were victims of a Comanche attack whose bodies were laid to rest on the same hill in the 1850s. Later on, dead paupers, who were used in medical experiments, were buried in unmarked graves on the cemeterys south side. In addition, graves without permanent markers were subject to reburial after a given period. Despite its protected status in the National Register of Historic Places, the cemetery has been subject to crime, vandalism and decay for decades. Locals believe that this troubled history has caused the cemetery to be haunted!

If youre looking to make a horror flick, this is the place to have your boom mic, video camera, girl running in scantily clad dress and ax murderer with zombies in tow.I dont think I have seen a cemetery scarier than this place, and its right down the road from downtown Austin.Sure, have a few drinks, get really brave and come out here after the wee hours. See if you get scared.

My maternal grandmother is buried here, and I make it a point to visit her grave every year on her berfday, which is about a month before Halloween. Otne year I made the mistake of visiting after the sun set. I dont believe in ghosts, andI dont get creeped out by cemeteries, but hearing some of the noises I heard that night gave me pause. A heard a dog growling nearby, and then heard another that sounded like it was in heat or something so it actually sounded pretty scary, like a hound from hell. Also heard something moving around in the grass behind me that drove a shiver down my back. I quickly turned to see a possum that started hissing at me. And those things are kinda freaky-looking anyway. So, theres lots of nature here to trick your mind if graves arent enough to frighten you.
