Its a nice marker but the city could manicure the grounds better.

The dog park/ dog friendly area is really big with a very high fence. Kind of unfortunate that it’s all paved (my dog only really likes to run around in the grass). But it’s the only dog park type area in Taos.

We visited Taos and Kit Carson Park for a Sting concert and were very impressed. Having never been to the park before, we were told that the Sting concert was something of an anomaly. Normally, the events are much more laid back, less crowded and that would have been nice. As you can imagine, Sting attracts serious numbers. (The youngest people in the park were the very nice police officers.) However, this should be a review of the park, not the concert. Kit Carson Park is conveniently located in Taos. Its spacious, offers shade but limited seating in the form of a few picnic tables and benches. Its obviously a park that is dedicated to public events, most particularly concerts and arts festivals, with wide open spaces and of course the very commanding stage at one end. The park was well staffed with friendly folks to handle the crowds and there were plenty of portable bathroom units on hand. I do have to say that the wine and beer selection is limited and not particularly notable. In fact, the wine was barely potable but the night was still fun. And there I go, reviewing the event again. Sorry. The park is an ideal place for events such as this and I wouldnt hesitate to recommend it or to go again. Next time though, well shoot for a smaller event.

Great picturesque city park in a special little town.I only dropped a star because of the closed facilities due to COVID (restroom was not only closed and locked, but also in need of paint and upkeep that very obviously predated the COVID period.)

Its not very well kept up.For example, the tennis courts have now been designated as a dog park because the courts are in such bad condition I think its just an easier and more cost-effective solution rather than fixing them and maintaining nets. The rest of the paths are not in superb shape either.I must say that I did enjoy using the tennis parts for my dog Gracie to play with another dog.Im staying in the heart of downtown so this park is very convenient.

Such a great park! We had the delight of seeing it set up for the Easter Egg Hunt which was wonderful. Our dogs loved the fenced-in off-leash area at the old tennis court. Be sure to close the gate and have a laugh watching your pups. Overall a lovely park to stroll through.

We went to the fiber festival there & it was crowded. I love the fiber, talking to the sellers & purchasing it but it was so crowded, I had a difficult time doing that. Next year we may go on Sunday. There was a shearing demonstration & spinning with spindles & a wheel. Thers fiber from every animal you can get fiber from including camels & buffalo. There was food and drinks but nowhere to sit & eat it. All in all it was a good time.

We went to the park to see the Mavericks and Dwight Yokum. I dont have much of a review about the park but was disappointed by the set up of the music event. We got to the venue at 4:30 and waited in line, finally got in at 6:45. Missed the first band. The gates didnt open until 5:30 and there was 6000 people attending. They needed to open the gates earlier.

Years ago I use to display my solar display at the Solar Music Festival. I have been to many shows at the park including art, craft shows, automobile and music shows. The wool festival in the fall is well worth seeing as are all the shows throughout the year. The park sits in downtown Taos and was once the Mamby residences English garden. There is a cemetery at the south east side of the park where Kit Carson is buried. The park is a good size park and is a great place to sit under the trees and read or have a picnic. The park is family friendly.

There is playground for kids. A long walking trail, a great place to take your dogs on a leash to walk around the park. Theres also a couple historic areas you find as you walk the path. And they hold free festivals or Musical shows here. And then amazing Fourth of July celebration free for everyone. This is a multi-use park, whether you want to walk the trails or curl up on a tree and read a book. It is right in the middle of town close to a lot of the hotels.

It was a nice sunny day and the friends with me wanted to take a picnic out to the park. Numerous trees gave us shade to sit in to eat our picnic, it was very nice as the grass was being mowed and that wonderful smell of fresh mowed grass wafted through the air filling our minds with the memories of childhood.

Kit Carson park is a a large park in the heart of Taos. It has nice strolling trails and a large open grass field. There is more than enough room for improvement in upkeep.

CO
Review №76

The park used to be a quiet shady spot in the heart of Taos where people would walk dogs, practice soccer, and spend time with family and friends. It has been the home of the Taos Wool Festival of 35 years. Unfortunately, it seems like some of the town leadership is determined to turn it into a for-profit concert venue and push the people out of their park. Sad.

They opened gates 1/2 hour prior to concert. Due to the amount of people going in, it took us 1 & 1/2 hours to get in. We missed the opening act. Then there was high back chairs and umbrellas in front of us.. they werent prepared for that large of a crowd. I would never attend anything at this park.

Saw Alabama Shakes here and they were phenomenal! As for the venue: its easy to get out and in. Very casual and chill. The lines to get booze were very long, but sometimes thats a good thing. Food trucks were adequate. Good sound and a pretty amazing outdoor stage. There was free parking at the courthouse, which was about a mile from the show. Closer than that, some places wanted $20 to park for the evening. If youre attending a big show in Taos book your hotel rooms early (as in the day you buy the concert ticket), everything will sell out.

I am an American Indian and Kit Carson was made an American hero because of his exploits in killing Indians. The fact that there is a park named after him in the very region where he did most of his killing is a slap in the face of todays American Indians and a testament to the idea that America is proud of their violent and merciless hisyory. I only gave it one star so I could write this review, it really doesnt deserve any stars. Besides, it was under construction and noisy with the sound of traffic.
