I saw folks mingling around outside this winter morning and a few inside the gift shop area but none that were in the house area where the tour takes place. The gift shop was mainly western or NM items and some Kit Carson books. So why five stars? Well it was cool seeing the home where he spent his years.

By all means take an hour or 2 and go through this building. Its an extremely important part of Taos history and a great place to take children also. Also recommend going to visit the cemetery and park of the same name. I dont remember the admission price but I highly recommend you go by here.

A real live piece of American History! The Kit Carson museum was on my husbands list of places to go, but I was intrigued once we got there. This is the actual home Kit Carson lived in with his 3rd wife and family. We have so much named after him in Nevada, but a good part of this mountain mans life was lived in New Mexico. It is wild to think of Taos being built up around this historic adobe home. The home is full of artifacts and photos including Kits Masonic Lodge lambskin apron that should have been buried with him! There is some mystery to be unraveled here. There is a video at the beginning of the tour thats is about 20 minutes long then you can self tour from there. We had a guide that was there to tell stories and answer questions.

It was $10 per person. Basically watched a video from the History Channel. The house was pretty cool. Not very big. Without the video it only takes a few minutes to tour. I understand the expense of upkeep and all but was hoping for more personal items.

This place is an incredible historic site. It does seem unbelievable that the whole family squeezed into one little room to sleep. There are so many amazing details put into the museum but it is quite small. Would definitely recommend.

Other than the building theres not much here that is directly tied to Kit Carson. Very few original artifacts, mostly reproductions and pieces of peripheral interest. What there is, isnt presented in a manner that stimulates thought or discussion. I didnt see anything that addressed any of the controversial aspects of his life.

I wouldnt consider this a museum but still a pretty cool place to visit. It cost $7 and was mostly watching a video that was made by the history channel. The video was very informative and you can learn a lot. The house itself is pretty small and will only take you a out 10 to 15 minutes to walk through.

A very informative tour. Although I was vaguely familiar with Kit Carson, I learned much more about the man and his family. I was so impressed with the never quit attitude that he had which personified those early explorers. Once I returned home I had to watch the series The Men Who Built America - Frontiersmen which featured Kit along with Daniel Boone, Davey Crockett, Tecumseh, and others. Both are a must see!

Enjoyed learning more about this historical icon... so much has been fabricated over the years. The introductory video and collection of photos and artifacts were worth the meager entry fee. The souvenir shop features numerous unique items at a bargain price. Check out the collection of essentials carried by early explorers... chocolate, brown sugar and tea in forms to travel with. Enjoyed this visit!

I highly recommend a visit to this museum. The gift shop is attractive and reasonably priced, and the artifacts illustrate the story of Kit Carsons amazing life. The latest donation: a huge, beautiful buffalo head that seems to emanate the spirit of the Plains. The docents are friendly and very informative. The name alone is not something to be proud of. Why would you make it something anyone should go to? Im scared i might get starved out or run off a cliff with thousands of others. His name is all over and im appalled. For example Kit Carson Park. One might as well say: Lets take the kids to Hitler park And take a shower.

I liked the house and the museum, however the docents are terribly rude. The first time I came by the docent was rude and made a snarky comment when asked if I could use a debit card for a small purchase. Came back a few days later and had a different docent, she had the audactity to shush me and two other women when we were talking loud. Did not realize I was still 12 years old and that shushing people was still acceptable especially when we all spent a lot of money there. Unfortunate hat these ladies are so terrible that they ruined the experience.
