Really nice hike though a bit of work going up the right side. We left at about 10 am on a Monday and the parking lot was about half full. The trail was not too crowded—we passed about five groups over the distance. Nice view from the top. The right side is pretty open so make sure you are good with sunscreen and water
Nice little loop to run or hike, good views. Beware of the the north side in the winter, yak tracks are recommend
We did not do the trail but had our lunch under the trees. The trees all yellow gave wonderful pictures for us. The place seems to be popular we saw lot of hikers walking the trail. The place is neat.
The trailhead is really nice, although it could use a trash bin. The trail is fantastic, especially for us not-very-gifted riders. We managed to take the left side straight out to Escarpment Trail, which was great for us because it was such a hot day. I really want to come back and do the whole 10 miles. Trails like this are the reason mountain bikes are so fun.
I love this hike, its not far from town at all! You want to be accustomed to the elevation before going on this particular hike. But once at the top, you can see all of taos from a birds eye view. Also going around the loop is nice, from climbing a rock path, to a nice shaded tree filled path around the mountain. Lots of great memories made here.
Devisadero = Lookout according to the Forest Service, aka Pueblo Indians watching out for Apache raids. The vistas/breathtaking views at many points along this hike make it easy to see why this would have been the perfect vantage point for keeping watch. It was a Saturday afternoon and I passed about 25 folks. It took me 64 minutes up to the Devisadero Peak sign and 67 minutes down. My altimeter said parking lot was ~7100 feet & said the peak was 8225 feet. (AllTrails app says elevation gain is 1,335 feet and 5.6 miles). Im older so it was a perfect challenge and great 2 hour steady workout. I did not pause except to take pix. This hike + Oeste Trail in Angel Fire + Williams Lake are my faves, that is now, some 2 months living in Taos. Enjoy!
Great hike! You will definitely get a nice workout. Me and my partner had to stop for several breaks. One more exciting than the rest ;) I brought my little pooch along whom also really enjoyed the hike! Only concern is the amount of plastic doggy poop bags scattered about. People must learn to keep it clean.
Great loop trail. Go counter clockwise to do the steepest bit first.
I am an intermediate hiker and had a chance to spend a month in Taos. Devisadero Loop 108 was the first hike I explored. It was the closest (less than 10 minutes) and was perfectly suited for my skill level. The hike up to Devisadero Peak (1335 ft of elevation), all uphill is a workout but after that its almost all downhill. The way up offers little to no shade so if its warm, start earlier. The hike down on the back side is shadier. The hike offers sweeping views of the Taos valley and took about 2-1/2 hours with a break at the top. The convenience and skill level made this my go to hike while in Taos.
Was a medium challenge. Didnt really like that there was some wires going over the trail but that was only the first portion of it. Had some nice views from the top. We went at around 7:30 when the light whats good for photography.
Best to hike this early if between June 1st and September 15th or so. It can start getting pretty warm by 10 am. Elevation does not get above 9000 feet, and half the hike gets a lot of sun exposure. It is a solid practice hike for something a little more grueling, though. If youre a trail runner most of this trail will be quite runnable.
Great, beautiful hike just 5-10 min from old town Taos!! This hike took my friend and I about 3 hours, and while there werent any overly difficult/steep areas, it still took it out of us! All in all (starting/returning to parking lot) was about 7.25 miles!!! DEFINITELY bring lots of water AND snacks (which we did not, and got hungry for an energy pick-me-up).
Monotonous trail, little views or diversity in terrain or geology. Well constructed and easy.
Moderately difficult hike with great, no fantastic views! Started with snow out and ended with a beautiful sunny day. Park at the Nogal trailhead and cross the highway to trailhead 108. Wear layers. The views keep changing but they are beautiful. We didnt see too many other folks and only one mountain bicyclist, so that was nice too. Chairs and cairn signal that you made it to the top. We had a great time though we took our time getting to the top.
Beautiful trail, especially during the fall.
The trail is nice but my dog got attacked by 3 random dogs that would have probably killed her if I didnt go into rage mode. The dogs are obviously owned but no owner around. After crossing the bridge take a left, away from Taos and hopefully you wont run into them.
A go to run for me. Great views. Great Trail.
Great hiking trail with beautiful views of the Taos Valley, the Sangre de Cristo Range and beyond.
Beautiful!! Although when they say moderate do not take it lightly.
Nice trail, reasonably well marked. Several good photo opportunities.
Breathtaking! (See what I did there?)
I love NM. So many amazing hikes.
Beautiful trail. It is a steep incline. There is an extraordinary amount of dog poop on the first 1/4 mile. The trail breaks off to the loop and then 108 trail. Park across the street at the Nogal Trail/campground area.
Good for all ages and abilities. Watch out for cyclists, and youll be good.Little fire pit.
Good trail if you like climbing 1000 feet. Bad trail if you like your legs.
Great walk, Ive done this hike several times. I love this trail everytime. Yesterday 8.3.2019 was hot, then it was overcast with some sprinkling. Beautiful day. I went to left of marked trail and returned to take the marked trail and went to the back of devisadero. Total 5 hours and 12 miles according to my fitbit 3! Another GREAT HIKE!
A very beautiful trail near Taos in New Mexico that goes up the mountain with commanding views of Taos and surrounding mountains and valleys. It loops at the top. You may encounter beautiful wild flowers in spring in addition to cactus .
Awesome loop hike. Took about 3 hours. Some icy spots on north facing sections
Great hike, uphill immediately, awesome view of taos
Did this today. OK hike. Nice views. Well marked. Best part is trailhead was close to Taos ( only 3 miles from where I was staying). Its around 6 mile loop. Took 1 hr 15 mins to reach the top and 45 mins to get down. Met 8-10 hikers. I live at 3000 feet and definitely felt the altitude.
Fantastic
Great 5.5 mile loop with beautiful overlooks. Perfect for biking and hiking. One tree down as of may 16, 2016 where a biker will need to carry their bike over. Easy to moderate trail for the most part. We parked at the parking lot across the street from the trailhead. The parking lot has useful trail maps and information. No parking along roadway.
Make sure you follow the trail. in my experience following the trail is the easiest way to get to where the end of the trail leads.
Nice place for a walk or hike nice trail
Very doable 6 mile hike. Great views and landscape photo opportunities.
Excellent hike. We went to the summit and back, took about 2 hours. Its hard work but fun!
Gorgeous place to take a hike. Parking lot and primitive facilities.
Great trail for my wifes 1st hike. Great views
Nice hike, too steep or tiring if you take your time.
As easy or as difficult as you want. Love all the trees
A nice run or hike up through the pinon pines providing stunning views of Taos and the plateau. Not very crowded on a December weekend, trail definitely requires surefootedness, hiking poles can help. Signage and maps onsite could be clearer, bring plenty of water. Hint: potties often closed during winter!
Good hike. Skinny trail, not for young kids.
Great hike! Take plenty of water.
5.5 intermediate trail miles close to town, what more could you ask for?
Great place for a family hike
One of my favorite trails.
First bit is quite steep, then rolling terrain.
Great hike
