Very nice theater with reclining chairs. I originally posted 4 stars but when I thought about it I really cant think of anything that needed to be improved. You can pick your seats online. Pricing is very reasonable. It is perfect just the way it is!

The service is a bit flakey. You might have to wait ten minutes for a hot dog. Still this perfectly preserved mid-century gem reminds me of my suburban childhood at theaters along the Rockville Pike Im Maryland. Right down to the typefaces used on the old signs.I hear the theater will be moving into new digs across the street. Shame, if true

This movie theater looks like it had been lifted out of the 60s or 70s and had seen better days. Many of the seats had worn or stained upholstery, likely from decades of use. Unlike theaters in the northeastern quadrant of San Francisco, the Regal UA in Stonestown doesnt offer modern options of reserved seating, reclining chairs, or other amenities common to contemporary movie houses. The Regal UA Stonestown Twin has plenty of parking spaces, but they are tucked away to the rear and the non-entryway side of the theater, making the walk from car to the phantom lobby entrance (see next paragraph) an unpleasant experience in the pouring rain. Despite poor attendance at the film we viewed, the parking lot was nearly full! We discovered that many shoppers at the Stonestown Galleria across the street were using the theater parking spaces as a means of avoiding holiday traffic jams in the shopping malls own extensive parking lots. This theater can also be reached from most districts of San Francisco via the M Muni Metro light rail line. Public transportation is nearly always my preferred option but Google Maps predicted a 1 hour, 15 minute journey on public transit from where I live in the eastern end of the city on a Saturday afternoon, regardless of whatever combination of routes Google suggested, vs a 15 minute drive. Given the heavy rain on that day, I made the obvious choice and drove. My two friends and I arrived separately and there was no signage indicating where to enter the lobby through its multiple glass doors, all of which appeared to be locked. What was likely a former box office was shuttered and each of us depended on the kindness of exiting theatergoers to make our entry into the lobby via one of the many doors.Probably to lower the cost of running the Regal UA Stonestown, the functions of the former ticket office had been transferred to the popcorn counter inside the lobby. Because we had purchased our tickets online, we finally figured out that the refreshment counter is where we had to go to scan our ticket barcodes. The building contains just two very large auditoriums and, consequently, only has the capacity for showing two films. During our viewing of a 4:30 pm show, only 20 persons occupied the hundreds of seats in the theater. We were surprised by the minuscule attendance, given the fact that the Regal UA Stonestown was the only movie house in all of San Francisco showing our film, a lengthy epic set in World War II Austria, which had received numerous accolades by movie critics. To end on a (slightly) positive note, the theaters discounted senior ticket price was just $10. Of course, when you purchase your tickets online, the online services, like Fandango, charge an additional $2 per ticket, an outrageous 20% markup. Personally, Id rather pay a couple of extra bucks to watch a film at a movie house with better transit accessibility, reserved seating, and more comfortable seats.

The theater is a little worn, and the angle of the seats to the screen is not as straight as youd expect. But once movies start, you dont notice these things, and they have much better movies than most theaters. Parking is amazingly easy there. Unlike your giant multiplex chock full of promotional materials, this place is mostly auditorium.

This is an old theater and yes it does smell musty BUT the prices are reasonable, the parking is FREE and easy to find a space (how great is that in San Francisco,) the popcorn is excellent, and the bathrooms are always kept clean. The people who run the theater are very nice and they check on the audience to make sure everything is okay. Maybe the ambience is not up to todays standards but my husband and I are here to watch a movie in peace, quiet, and safety and one can do that in this theater. I also want to add that for seniors and individuals who are not well health-wise this is an easy accessible theater. My husband loved movies but was very ill and could not handle all the stairs at the main stream theaters not too mention having to park blocks away or in a smelly disgusting parking garage: thank goodness for this theater, my husband so enjoyed going here and watching the movies with little stress on his physical body. What more can one ask.

Pros: Easy to get into this 2-screen theater behind the Stonestown mall. Even on a Friday night hardly anyone was there.Cons: This was originally a single screen, so they built a wall down the middle to twin it. Thus, the seats are slightly turned in relation to the screens. The theater we were in also smelled musty. They charge the same price as theaters with much nicer seats.

Its a shame that #RegalCinema isnt interested in supporting this last of the truly good sized theaters. They dont even give the management enough letters to post the marquees. Its also the only theater on the southern end of San Francisco that runs the smaller, more intelligent films, rather than the blockbusters (or so they expect). Hope they continue to do so when they renovate Stonestown and downsize the theaters to multiplex them.

All of the criticism about the need for a thorough renovation hold true. This is a theater that movie buffs love to bash. On the other hand, it does show interesting, often indie films, and it has plenty of free parking and a discount senior matinee on Mondays.

Hidden gem of a cinema. 2 theaters showing art or independent films. Lots of free parking. Located behind Stonestown Mall. Usually not crowded. There is sometimes an odd mildew smell. Since it is an older theater there are no cup holders for each seat. Fun, local place to see art films without having to struggle with traffic and parking.

Re

Older movie theater located behind Stonestown Galleria. Unlike modern movie theaters, United Artists have seats that are bit more worn out and all are on one floor. So if youre shorter than 5, good luck watching the screen from the back. Limited selection of foods at the concession stand and employees try their best to keep the lobby clean. I used to attend screenings of Filipino movies here a few years ago, but now Filipino movies can be seen at Century Theaters. Since its behind Stonestown, there is a parking lot in front, which is easy and free. Overall, I dont come here anymore, but if United Artists updated the buildings interior and exterior, then maybe there would be more patrons.

Old School! This is the theatre I saw ET, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Star Wars, The Cat from Outer Space and many more cool original movie premiers! Yes, it could use some love & minor udates, but it is great to have an old favorite feel like it did when we went to it as kids! No drink holders does not bother people who didnt have them in the day!

Echoing what others have said, the seats arent centered to the screen, and they feel old. If you dont want to pay for a water bottle, theyll give you a plastic cup which you can fill up at the water fountain, which is nice? There arent any cupholders inside, and I thought the popcorn was kind of dry.

This was one of the first movie theaters I went to back in my Lowell days and it hasnt changed in 20 years. I finally went back to see Lady Bird and it was like its been frozen in a time capsule. Some things to note are that the seats are a bit squeeky and uncomfortable, but also dont have cupholders to so be careful with that.

I like this theater because it shows many independent films. The people who work there are friendly, my big complaint is that the place is dirty and the seats are uncomfortable. It just needs an overhaul to bring it up to decent standards. Ive gotten used to the seats on an angle, but hard to get used to the smell of grime.

Ch
Review №59

It is a converted single screen that still has the original seats. That makes you face the center of the building but your screen is far to one side. The screen had a patched hole, the projector shoots at an angle so the picture is skewed, and the bulb was going out. The dieing bulb made the black and white movie into a half. Lie and half brown one.
