This is the best movie house in town! The actual room was intimate with reclining seats. The food and the drinks are awesome at a very affordable price. The place is spacious, clean, modern, and easy to access. The staff is friendly, courteous, and hard-working. The menu is smaller than anticipated but still sufficient. I look forward to visiting again.

Yet another classic cinema in SF with that old-school vibe that makes going to watch movies in theaters a real treat of an experience.Tickets as well as drinks & food are quite reasonably priced. The theaters have quite a flat structure with very minimal slope per row, meaning seats towards the back are definitely advisable for the best viewing angles - seats in the closer rows are a bit hard on the neck after a coupe hours of looking up at the screen. All in all after seeing a film here I now understand why its considered by residents of the Richmond District to be a pretty iconic venue. The family that runs the theater is kind and welcoming, the movies that play here are often hard to find elsewhere (like foreign films - for example, I saw the Spanish film Pain & Glory here), and the theaters are quite cozy.Tips: tickets at the door (at the time of writing) cost $12.50, which (again at the time of writing) is the same price they are sold on websites such as Fandango. There is no reserved seating in advance. Also, note that movies start at the EXACT time they are scheduled to start. I learned this the hard way as I came in about 30 seconds after the scheduled start time and missed the opening frames of the movie. Finally, there are only 2 1-person restrooms - one for men and one for women, meaning it is definitely advisable to get there early should you need to use the bathroom before the movie.

My iPad screen stopped being responsive and needed to be replaced. Sam gave me a fair quote so I proceed with the replacement. After the screen was replaced, the screens responsiveness was back to normal, but the LCD back light was very uneven. There were shadows that were not there before.

Great old little theater in the Richmond. No frills, no Imax or stadium seating, no reserved seats. But lots of charm, lower prices tickets, and a theater thats more accessible to Sunset and Richmond.

I always enjoy the Four Star. The variety of movies is always intriguing: first run, second run and Asian classics. Its a cool, quirky neighborhood theatre, so if youre looking for a downtown multiplex style experience, its not for you. The seats arent banked, so choose carefully if youre short.

The advantage to going here is that they play some unique films that dont play elsewhere. But it needs a refurbishment badly. Tiny narrow theater. Way too deep for the small screen. Broken folding seats.

You can hear the movie playing in the other theater next door...but all things considered (pricing) you get what you pay for. If its playing a movie youre dying to watch, Id recommend it for the intimate atmosphere and affordable pricing. In general, its a local favorite for many in the neighborhood, the people who work there are friendly, and its one of the few places that shows a solid amount of foreign and contemporary films.

Saw Whitney Houston movie here. This is a cute, compact old fashioned movie theater. I liked it! And because its in a mostly residential neighborhood, you can find free parking on most of the side streets.

A local movie theatre with a good selection of movies. The best ones come here a few weeks later. There are two rooms, one larger , one quite small. Nothing fancy, but totally adequate. The entire space is very small, but the theatre is kipping its long tradition of being one of the best small theatres in town.

Not so likely to go back because of their tiny halls that has tiny screen. I had trouble reading even with my contact lens on and seats are not so comfortable. Also not so welcoming staffs at ticket booth. For all this you dont even get competitive ticket price! So straight no!

Definitely quirky, but in a great way. Plays foreign and second run movies, always has different options than anywhere else in the city. Dont expect a glossy, modern cinema! It has its own antique charm.

Dank. In both the good and bad respects. I love it though. I couldnt give it five stars, because that would be like giving a five star rating to a hot dog, but sometimes you just really want a hot dog and not some Michelin star pate de foie gras or whatever.

In an objective sense, this is not a great movie-going experience. You probably have a friend with a home theater system as good as the smaller theater. But the place has a lot of charm and shows a lot of interesting movies that arent shown elsewhere.

I hadnt been to this theater in years and clearly that was a mistake, I should have been going here all along. Its so charming and they play movies most other theaters dont get.

Never again. Chewy popcorn with nasty artificial butter, walls so thin you can hear the film to your left and the street to your right. Screen size a tad larger than my big screen and the toilet was scarier than the horror film I saw. Love and respect indie theaters but some things just cant be. Save your money and go to the Roxy or Castro. Youll be glad you dodged this bullet.

There is nothing good about this place. The screen is small and still square so you see big black bars above and below the movie. The sound leaks between their two screens.Their food choices are limited and pretty bad.The prices aren’t even low.Seriously, it’s better to pay full price for a movie on iTunes or Amazon and watch it on your laptop with headphones or your hdtv.I’m sorry, but they don’t even get the old school charm right.

I never give 5 stars for anything, and neither should anybody else. Doing so shows that the person usually has no standards. But Im giving it here to make a statement to the other so- called cinemas. As most of us have known, the other cinemas show such clichèd and redundant material, that are also cheesy and tongue in cheek, that theyre literally intolerable to watch. Movies were never meant to be that way. The idea and appeal is to go see material that one has never seen before. Whomever is choosing the movies here at 4 Star cinema seem to know what theyre doing. Their movies seem to be sincere and to care about the art of the movie. To say that 4 Star is the only true cinema in San Francisco is the best compliment that I can give for them. And people should not just give the 4 stars that their name lives up to, but 5 stars.

You cant beat the magic of this great locally owned theater, ,and Frank Lee and his people are friendly and professional. We screened our film, Hey Monster, Hands off my City in Aug-Sept 16 and will screen this May-June 17, and as an SF filmmaker, to have access to moviegoers in our city is a rare and special treat. Check out this cultural gem.

A nice vintage feel to the movie going experience. We probably would not have gone here if we didnt have moviepass. We went to a matinee and the theater seemed to be a one man show run by a friendly man who sold the tickets, made the popcorn and I think ran the projector. There was plenty of parking at that time on a weekday.

San Franciscos most unpleasant movie-going experience. Sound from bigger theater can be heard in small theater. No hearing devices available for hard of hearing patrons.
