One of my favorite UWS places; quite rundown afetr so many years of neglect, but its still hugely impressive & highly populated. No skateboarding here is of course where all the skateboarders ply their skills.
A great Monument along the Riverside park route. Not worth going out of your way for if you are a tourist, but if you have the time to visit or are a local, worth visiting.
A beautiful monument, one that is too little visited these days and was dedicated to our service men from the Great War, most commonly known today as World War I. While, I have visited it from the landward I most often say hello to it from the Hudson River atop my paddle board. I know where I am when I see it protruding above the trees---something it will likely no longer do in a few years.
Very cool. i wish it was open to visit on top of the staircase
AIMMING HIGH Semper Fi
I like visiting there it was nice....
We need to join together to help this glorious monument.
Popular meeting / walking / reading / hanging out place on Riverside Drive.
The monument is fenced in on all sides making it horrible for photos or photo shoot
This is four blocks from my home, and I love it. In Riverside Park, its one of those best kept secrets that New York is so famous for, and my favorite place to go read and be left alone.
Great location to meet a friend and maintain social distancing
Nice area but full of rats at this time
Good quite walk. Overlooking the river. Lots of dogs to watch. Serene and beautiful
I mean jeez, what can I really say about the Monument. This place is practically home to me. Its my stomping ground. Ive learned so much here. Ive made life long friends here, fallen in love, fallen out of love, learned how to skateboard, pedaled my first bike without training wheels here. The Monument is one of those places that remains in the hearts of Upper West Siders. Some people see it as an eye sore due to its lack luster ground and aging marble, I see it as place of tranquility and reflection. A way to unplug from New York City and think back to a time before high rises and apartment buildings. Monument forever.
Great for family walks
Nice historic place but it is not well preserved.
This is a monument in honor of the civil war. Honoring the south as well as the North. Nice views of the Hudson River.
God bless the US Navy. I was in the navy back in 2013 Obama Obama
Super cool place to chill
Inspiring, cannons and cannon balls adjacent, scenic but is surrounded by construction barriers. Walk down hill and you will find a beautiful garden on the promenade.
Wonderful and beautiful day in NYC
Nice piece of propaganda to glorify the men who took up arms to shoot down their own brothers and sisters during the war of Northern aggression. Its interesting, now that the states of New York and California have decided not to follow the constitution, the federal govt has NOT forced them to comply with a gun pointed at them.In fact it seems like New Yorks solution is just to further ignore the 2nd amendment and take all our guns away. The founding fathers are rolling in their graves.
Beautiful monument.
I went there to visit a location from Parting Glances which had stayed in my mind ever since I saw the film in the 80s. Its fenced off for renovation but it was still satisfying to have visited it at last.
Childhood memories..
It used to be awesome but now its closed off
Interesting monument. I wish it was not closed for restoration. A nice way to break up a walk along the waterfront.
Irepect the Military peoples, God bless them!!!!
Beautiful ️
I go here to see the Hudson Warehouse Shakespeare company every summer. The monument is impressive - I wish we still made ones like this. Parts for the steps leading up to the monument and the patio at the bottom are in disrepair. Strange as it sounds, that adds to the experience and makes it feel older than it actually is.
Grew up a few blocks away. Great area. The Monument is a great tribute to our Service personnel.
Great place to see Merry Wives of Windsor
Breathtaking.
I love it, its my neighborhood!
Currently a fence surrounds the monument. Repairs are needed, but no funds available. Sad.
A nice monument.
Very quiet place, clean, and has a great view of the water
Great monument, sometimes mistaken (somehow) for Grants Tomb. In need of some renovations and restoration but the surrounding benches and park are in good upkeep. Mind skateboarders that like using the stairs for their routines.
It is beautiful but needs work
Really nice area. Riverside Park is also really nice but beware of the mosquitos in the summer.
America has little history. However, American pressures their History.
Abandoned, the city is looking for funding to renovate and re open the monument to the public, its beautiful
Great memorial area. There are some canons and other historical items that provide a view into the history of the Civil War while still appreciating the surrounding beauty of Riverside Park.
View and park. Quiet
Nice tribute to our fallen. Great night walk.
Peaceful, quiet, you can enjoy nature and youre just few blocks from Broadway. Great view of Hudson River and New Jersey.
Generally peaceful, quiet, good dog walking spot, a parkour training spot for those who are into it
Great memorial area. I used to run every morning around there and found it inspiring to cross.
Currently fenced around. Still beautiful though!
Neat monument that a lot of people never stumble upon. Check out the park (Riverside) and stop by to see this awesome monument.
We need to formally respect our sailors and soldiers and this place is a great start
Nice part of riverside. A lot of squirrels.
A grand monument from the 19th century on the west side of Manhattan. Provides great seating and views of the Hudson.
Come here for sunset and the hudson warehouse theatre company! They are amazing the last play the triumph of love is amazing and the actors are fantastic
May al the victims from several wars America has bin involved too who al came from New York rest in peace.
Nice monument to soldiers and sailors
Its a beautiful monument with the park as background
A good solid American Monument, with a great purpose!
Please fix this monument i was so sad to see it fenced off!
So sad...in need of repair and no money to do it.
Clean park and a great piece of Nyc history
Very epic and perfectly located.
Freedom aint Free
It was fenced off for some renovations (I assume), Id like to see it again when the work is complete.
Nice monument, but a bit secluded
Very well maintained park
Beautiful
Lovely place with great views
Great memorial, needs repair
Cool monument, I dig it.
This was the hangout in my youth!
Quintessential neoclassical structure built in the Corinthian order, this monument commemorates the lives of soldiers and sailors who died during the American Civil War.
Is a nice place
Beautiful
Great monument!
Beautiful monument in a great area
Very beautiful by the park
So beautiful
Safe and beautiful place
A huge monument thats in the perfect area, but is plagued with vandalism(at least on the back of it.)

I passed this monument while taking a ride on Riverside Drive.
