This is one of the most iconic buildings in the world and its competitive history, architectural details and art are absolutely stunning but... No Tours? Nothing to see except the lobby? A small portion of this building belongs to Americas history and so there should be something arranged where perhaps a story and an observation deck are dedicated to a museum and observatory. Its a shame that its only private offices.

The Chrysler Building is an Art Deco–style skyscraper located in the Turtle Bay neighborhood on the East Side of Manhattan, New York City, at the intersection of 42nd Street and Lexington Avenue near Midtown Manhattan. At 1,046 feet (318.9 m), the structure was the worlds tallest building for 11 months before it was surpassed by the Empire State Building in 1931. It is the tallest brick building in the world with a steel framework. As of 2018, the Chrysler is the eighth-tallest building in the city, tied with The New York Times Building.Originally a project of real estate developer and former New York State Senator William H. Reynolds, the building was constructed by Walter Chrysler, the head of the Chrysler Corporation, and served as the corporations headquarters from 1930 until the mid-1950s. The Chrysler Buildings construction was characterized by a competition with 40 Wall Street and the Empire State Building to become the worlds tallest building. Although the Chrysler Building was built and designed specifically for the car manufacturer, the corporation did not pay for its construction and never owned it; rather, Walter Chrysler decided to pay for it himself so that his children could inherit it.When the Chrysler Building opened, there were mixed reviews of the buildings design, ranging from views of it as inane and unoriginal to the idea that it was modernist and iconic. Perceptions of the building have slowly evolved into its now being seen as a paragon of the Art Deco architectural style; and in 2007, it was ranked ninth on the List of Americas Favorite Architecture by the American Institute of Architects.

A child of New Yourk citys late 1920s real estate bloom the chrysler building was once the city and the worlds tallest skyscraper Zoning laws passed in the early 1900s led to New York’s skyscrapers adopting unique silhouettes—like the buildings’ street-side walls being set back—which also played a role in chrysler’s now-renowned Art deco style.in1978, the building was designated as a New York city landmark, which meant that any exterior construction needed to be approved by the city’s Landmarks Preservation commission. Late last month, the commissionunanimously approved the construction of an observation deck on the north and south terraces on the 61st floor of the iconic, Jazz-era building. the building’sformer observation deck on the 71st floor was shut in 1945. In 2018, the chrysler building changed ownership for a modest $150 million and new owner Aby rosenannounced plans to restore the building to its former glory. the plans for this observation deck come just a few months after hudson Yards unveiled the highest outdoorobservatory in the western hemisphere, called the edge. While the city is still under considerable restrictions, the timeline for the project has not been released. the north and south terraces however, will need to be revamped with new glass panels to replace the current metal handrails. this project will considerably open the building up to tourists because until now, chrysler functioned as little more than an office building.

From the flashy neon lights and the hustle and bustle of Times Square to the skyscrapers of Wall Street and the verdant ways of Central Park, New York City never ceases to amaze with its energy and vibrancy. World-class exhibition halls like MoMA and exceptional world heritage sites like the Statue of Liberty are simply captivating. Broadway shows, ethnic enclaves and shops, memorable lanes of stately brownstones, in vogue bars and diners all add to the urban buzz. I hear when the building opened in 1931, the public could go up to the 71st floor as it served as an observation floor. That was stopped in 1945. Now you can only enter the lobby unless you have business on the floors above. We just gazed up at it from below. I think it is most stunning when it is lit up at night.

The iconic Art Deco skyscraper is a private office building, but the lobby is open to the public. There is a small deli and some shops in the concourse and a subway station. There is no accounting for taste but the Chrysler Building is much nicer looking than the Empire State Building and there is no line or logjam to get inside here. There is no public observation deck, but the iconic eagles and radiator cap statues can be seen from the ground on 42nd Street. The lobby is not very crowded, you will be able to view the mural in peace and quiet. A must visit for tall building lovers if you are in Manhattan on a weekday.

Ahh, the Chrysler Building! An office building in New York City, designed by architect William Van Alen and often cited as the epitome of the Art Deco skyscraper. Its sunburst patterned stainless steel spire remains one of the most striking features of the Manhattan skyline. Built between 1928 and 1930, the Chrysler Building was briefly the tallest in the world, at 1,046 ft (318.8 meters). It claimed this honour in November 1929 when the building was topped off with a 180 ft (55 meters) spire and held the record until the Empire State Building opened in 1931. The decorative scheme of the facade and interior is largely geometric; at the request of Walter P. Chrysler, who commissioned the building, stainless steel automobile icons, radiator caps in the form of Mercury, were incorporated in the frieze on the setback at the base of the tower and in decorative work on other parts of the building. The building’s pierless corners and sleek design are typical of the modernism of the 1920s. A major restoration of the landmark structure was conducted in the early 1980s. Today the Chrysler Building still stands as one of New York City’s tallest and most iconic skyscrapers and the skyline wouldn’t be the same without it. I hope my review was found helpful and educational! Now you guys will know everything about the building before you go and see it. Enjoy and admire the beautiful skyscraper! It deserves love.CheersSincerely, Omaid

The Chrysler Building is one of the world’s most striking Art Deco buildings. Check out the facade from the southwest corner of 3rd Avenue and 42nd Street to see how details in the brickwork change with each setback. Look for details that recall autos of the 1920s: hubcaps, fenders, streamlined bodies, even hood ornaments. The striking crown is made of stainless steel, custom fabricated in Germany for the building. This is the first steel-frame building to show part of the steel on the outside. (To see all of the steel, visit the Ford Foundation building two blocks to the East.)Despite the name, it has no connection to the Chrysler Corporation, which never had offices there. (The Empire State Building was originally planned as headquarters for General Motors.) Walter Chrysler was a major investor and kept personal offices on the upper floors. The lobby is open to the public during business hours. Check out the exotic marbles on the walls and floors and the striking mural on the ceiling, which dramatizes the possibilities of transportation in the ‘20s.The Chrysler Building was the tallest building in the world for about 15 months, when Empire State topped out. It was the first structure taller than the Eiffel Tower.
