This was such a ripoff. $8 for parking to walk along a paved street, with lots of traffic , for a while before we got to the trail. The parking lot was small and far from trail head. The hike was crazy crowded with tons of people not wearing masks. There was dog feces all over trail. I came home and found a tick on my leg. Awful
Nothing nice to see on the trail. Too many loose rocks and steep areas. Not worth the below mediocre end if the trail. If you just want a good workout and are somewhat in shape then this trail might be suitable for you. Definitely not a trail for a novice hiker that is not somewhat in shape. Smelly sewer water from the waterfall is the prize you get to experience at the end of the trail.Tread carefully!
Great hiking trail. Beautiful scenery and a good challenge. Note that the walk to the main part of the trail is mostly uphill, so stretch and be prepared.
Easy hike, including from parking (I saved myself the $8 parking in the small lot and parked on the street; I arrived around 715a and when I got back to my car around 930a, parking was pretty crowded) up to the actual trail—get to see a lot of gorgeously-expensive houses. The trail itself is a bit confusing at first bc it is unmarked and there is a lot of overgrown foliage—I wound up taking a wrong turn and arrived at a ‘no trespassing’ sign at first. You can climb up to a second waterfall as well, but I did not do that as I was solo hiking.
Enjoyed the short hikeb2 hours rt. Beautiful scenery and not as hard to hike. It only has a couple of areas where you have to go up and down. Otherwise it is very flat
Pretty easy trail. Some people have a hard time finding it, but as long as you walk up the paved street and reach the top, youll know youre going the right way because there will be stay on the path signs that you continue to pass. The hill slopes down, and you take the path on your left which is clearly marked with the trailhead marker. It took us maybe 25 minutes to get to the waterfall. The waterfall itself was ok, but it stunk of something rotting. A buddy had told me that there are 3 different waterfalls you can walk to, you just have to be willing to rock climb a bit.
Its good to get out and breathe in some fresh air.
Great place to hike.
Quite easy hike if you hiked regularly. Dusty, dry and the so called waterfall was just a trickling of water. Have a buddy with you especially if you go during the week day. Nobody was around when we were there, so it is quite dangerous to hike alone. Also bring water, very important.
Beutiful place to go with family
Good short hike, lots to see ...great for a quick workout
Great easy hike to a waterfall that flows most of the year. Sometimes crowded, but never too much so.
I would say ok but, barely a trickle
Breathtaking. The hike is really fairly easy, but peaceful and zen. The long walk through neighborhoods can seem confusing at first -- just keep going. Once you hit the actual trail, youll know. Its dreamy and wild. One of my favorite spots on earth.
Love all the trails here great to come out and explore!!.
Love the hike, shaded and beautiful fall
A beautiful park. One single trail winds and twists its way through a thin forest and hillsides along a creek fed by the falls. Hike in, then reverse the way out. Right now the painted lady butterflies are mating, so you will encounter swarms of them all over. This park is semi dog friendly, allowing for leashed dogs to visit. A good variety of plant life as well as animals can be observed on this hike. Parking is a bit steep at $8 per vehicle, but for a one time visit, worth it.
Great hike, a real workout.
Not so easy to look for parking on PCH. Heed the no parking signs as they are heavily enforced. Nice trail with a few creek crossings during rain season. Beautiful waterfall. However, watch loose falling rocks near the falls where people try to climb up to the upper falls. Most turned back, we had close calls at the tree trunk to the right side of the lower water fall.
Can get crowded along a narrow path for awhile. Parking on street was used since the lot only took 10 cars, then its about a half mile or more to the entry into the park sign. Amazing how life is growing back post fires in that area. The first waterfall is a quick trip, but if you wanna see second one you should prepare to climb on loose rocks. Wear good trail or hike shoes for this with a good cushioning for the walk. If u want to leave clean, dont climb to second waterfall its a mess on your hands and clothes. Remember that hard climb up and over to second waterfall is going to be a messier return. All in all I enjoyed the park
The view and the hike was breathtaking. only thing I can wish for along the trail was some type of water source. To rehydrate
Its shaded and a leisurely path. Lots of plants and wildlife if thats what youre after. But the 8 dollars parking fee feels steep as there is no way to really spend an entire day here! I parked on the PCH, unaware there even was a parking structure and then realizing it was full but I wonder what would the authorities day if I did the same on a day the parking lot is not full.
Great hike
Beautiful place to run or hike with a nice waterfall at the end, however it is challenging to access since the parking lot is about a mile incline walk or run through neighborhood streets before you get to the actual trailhead and they now charge for parking at that inconvenient lot. You can park along pch for free outside of the lot. Sadly, due to recent fires and flooding, the terrain has changed a lot, much of the landscape has been destroyed (but is slowly growing back) and some of the trail access has been damaged. All in all it is still a really fun and beautiful hike, especially if you dont mind getting a bit dirty.
Great hiking. Remember Leaves of Three Let it Be. Be aware of Poison Ivy and Poison Oak on many of our trails. These plants have three leaves on each branch is a way to identify. Do not touch as the oils on these leaves are poisonous.
Nice easy walk, but river of course was dry
Amazing .just be careful I got a ticket
Quite a distance to travel from the parking area to the start of the trail. Not much shade and the waterfall was alright.
Love this hike. Waterfall at the end was totally worth it
This place is amazing. I had so much fun over there. I walked thru the mountain for more than 2 hours ( back and forth). Its really fun. If I was able to do it, you can do it.Try it. I lost 10 pounds in 2 hours. Just kidding. We need to have fun and enjoy life. Make a plan to go there please. No alcohol.
Amazing!. The hike was fun and family friendly.
This is a really nice trail. Although the first mile or so is along the road, the trail itself is very scenic. There are plenty of sections of shaded tree tunnels, and it ends at a seasonal waterfall. This trail is insanely popular, though, and parking is very limited, so come early or midweek.
Issa nice
Nice
Great trail, with an aggressive climb about 1/2 a mile in to the hike.
It was an easy hike with great views and some shade. Beautiful Hike with Waterfall!
Good for walking
Waterfall was dry, but the trail is worth doing for the lush green scenery alone. Its washed out toward the beginning but otherwise in good shape - a good hike for children and small dogs.
Nice place to hike, although it was closed off due to a wild cat spotted in the area.
Nice hike through diverse terrain to shady pools and hillsides hanging with weeping greenery. Trail to the last pool is a scramble and might be hard for some people. Parking is limited so go early. Bring water if its hot.
Great trail!!!
Seeing water come over both the waterfalls is sublime, especially after having thoroughly and equally enjoyed them when they were dry.
Nice view
Pretty interesting trail. Parking is limited and you must park on PCH or the very small lot nearby. You must hike up the Winding way road until you see the trailhead that bears left down into the creek bed on the left hand side. Once you get to the first waterfall, the hard climb begins. Once you reach the second waterfall, it is worth it. Very cool!
Escondido Canyon Park is an amazing park, but there is no waterfall anymore, unfortunately.
Beutiful please
Amazing experience!
Be aware that outside of the winter (rainy) season there is no water in these falls, so do not allow the the beautiful green pictures posted here lead you to believe that this is what it looks like after April.
Beautiful view.
Sunset from beautiful Santa Monica mountains.
One of my favorite hikes, except during drought seasons.
If youre hiking to the second waterfall, be warned, this is not a novice hike. Theres a lot of rock climbing and grappling. It was terrifying for someone like me that is not an experienced hiker. Not recommended unless you have hiking boots and good knowledge of rock climbing.
Nice trail under trees
Theres no water at the moment be careful with parking at the left as soon as you get there aswell or you will be fined 80
It was only an okay hike
