History thy name is Los Angeles! This is a really old establishment and looks quite like a Mexican pueblo. Great experience visiting here. One of the lesser known LA attractions. Los Angeles by the way was Mexican territory before the US took over and many parts of the metropolis retains its Mexican influence. Cheers!

It’s a beautiful church and place to be. The parking price is alright and the food is really good. The church looks good on the inside as it does on the outside. It’s a great place to spend on the day of the lord and/or to hang out! Have a walk. Across the street from the church there is a bunch of tiny stores that sells many things and a bit of restaurants. They celebrate the birthdays of the saints, and on special occasions they have a mariachi band. Also, on Christmas they sometimes give away presents in the morning.

This church is with the boundaries of the El Pueblo de Los Angeles Historic Monument, but is still a functioning local church. It has been maintained and is an important part of the history of Los Angeles at the location where the City was established. It has a small but beautiful sanctuary with a nice altar. Its not elaborate but is simple, but yet it is historical and also inspiring. Definitely worth a visit.

Beautiful! They started right on time. Parking wasnt bad just $10. I didnt expect for there to be a Mariachi band. The process was smooth and not complicated at all. We were provided two photos one before with godparents and during the process of the baptism. You are instructed where to sit and only up to 6 persons in the row given. Additional guest must sit further back in designated rows. They dont allow for you to take the objects to be blessed while up in front but they do save time to come around and bless the objects one row at a time. It was perfect for us and everyone taking part in this special day.

I was here this morning to pick up my baptismal certificate. Flor, the woman at the office was very professional, friendly and courteous. I took a quick peak into the chapel off Main St (my friend told me the main church was located off Spring St). They have the Holy Eucharist (El Santisimo) there for adoration I was in and out of Our Lady Queen of Angels Church in less than 30 min... certificate cost me $25 and parking $2.50

Simple, humble, yet historically significant church. The church is located near Avera Square, just across the road, this is why you will see a lot of Mexican influence here. The church is not big, but beautiful in itself. Definitely worth a visit if you are around the area.

Once a small chapel of approximately 1,400 square feet completed construction in 1784. This was considered the first church building in the city of Los Angeles, which was originally erected somewhere in the vicinity of what is now the corner of Cesar E. Chavez Blvd. (formerly Sunset Blvd.) and North Broadway Avenue. The chapel remained there in use until December 8, 1822 when the church was re-located at its present site and was dedicated in honor of Our Lady Queen of Angels; undergoing extensive remodeling since the 1840s.Two beautiful murals are located on site: The first titled: The Annunciation painted by Isabel Piczek; a replica of the central panel of a six-part mural originally painted by Ilario da Viterbo in 1393 at the sanctuary of Porciuncula Chapel in Italy. This important celebration in the Franciscan calendar remembers the day when St. Francis of Assisi founded his Order in 1208, and honors the village chapel where he was inspired. The central panel depicts the Archangel Gabriel announcing the divinity of Christ to the Virgin Mary as she receives the Holy Spirit from angels surrounding God in Heaven. That section, replicated by Piczek in Byzantine tesserae was dedicated on September 4, 1981 (on the 200th Anniversary of the City of Los Angeles) by Cardinal Timothy Manning as a reminder of the religious connection to the naming of the city of L.A. The mosaic replaced a plastered-over fresco dating from 1861 that showed Mary with the infant Jesus, along with two angels where Henri Joseph Penelon had originally painted the fresco. Possibly due to the mural being in poor condition from neglect, which was believed to be the earliest outdoor public mural in the city of Los Angeles; it remained visible until 1950 when it was plastered over. The second mural titled: Jubilee 2000 Mural by E.J. Harpham (a.k.a. EJTILESCAPES) The story begins in the early morning hours of December 9, 1531, when a 57-year-old Indian peasant named Juan Diego was walking along the path of Tepeyac Hill on the outskirts of Mexico City. That morning Juan Diego was headed to Mass and as he walked along Tepeyac Hill, he began to hear beautiful strains of music, and he saw a beautiful lady, who called him by his name. She told Juan Diego to go tell Bishop Zumarraga of her desire for a church to be built at the site. Juan Diego proceeded to inform the bishop of his vision of the Virgin Mary. Reluctant at first, Bishop Zumarraga listened patiently to Juan Diegos claims, but was doubtful of the vision and responded by saying he would reflect on the matter. This goes back and forth a few more times with Juan Diegos visions until finally the bishop requests for Juan Diego to come back with some kind of evidence. As for the sign for the bishop, Mary told Juan Diego to go to the top of the mountain and pick some flowers. He went up to the hill which was dry and barren, and found roses only grown in Spain, but foreign to Mexico. He gathered them in his tilma, a garment like a poncho, and brought them to Mary who arranged them and instructed Juan Diego to take them back to the bishop.Upon his return, the bishop saw not only the beautiful flowers but also the beautiful image of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Bishop Zumarraga wept at the sight of the Blessed Mother and asked forgiveness for doubting Juan Diegos visions. The bishop took the tilma and laid it at the altar in his chapel and by Christmas of that year, an adobe structure was built atop Tepeyac Hill in honor of the Virgin Mary/Guadalupe; it was dedicated on December 26, 1531, the feast of St. Stephen the Martyr.

I loved the service, it was beautiful. I recommend picking the first service that begins at 11:00, this allows you to find plenty of parking (cash only $5.00, which covers the entire service).Allow yourself 1.5 hours before the service, together (parents and godparents) this will allow you to check in pay your (fees $125), take a family picture for an extra $20.00 and a set of keychains. Also getting there at least 1,5 hours early, will allow you to take plenty of pictures around the church without having people photo bomb your moments. Finally, I loved this church because they don’t mandate “classes”, or “certification” of any type (marriage, baptism, ect).

This is not your typical cathedral but it neatly brings cathedral building into the 21st century. Theres even a statue of the Virgin Mary poised hanging out over the fast-lane of I-10 and it appears to spray Holy Water onto the vehicle traffic passing by. Now if That isnt stereotypical of the Los Angeles car culture I dont know what is!

So, apparently the Catholic church only does confirmations once a year in May? Please correct me if I am wrong. This posed a HUGE problem as my husband and I wanted to have our daughter baptized before she turned 1, in December. Unfortunately, the beautiful church 10 minutes from our house stopped baptizing children with an unconfirmed Godparent. So the in only solution was to make the hour 15 minute drive to Los Angeles to have our daughter baptized, in December, but weeks before she turned 1. This wasnt my first choice, but it was my only choice.Prior to registration, we did complete our orientation online which consisted of 2 or 3 Youtube videos. Cant remember the exact amount of videos. Once that was completed, I was then contacted by email by a representative of the church. It was so simple. I let them know the date, they gave me times, I accepted a time, and boom, done. Then i just received instructions for the day of the baptism. The church is well organized. They have this Baptism business down pat. Once you arrive, you go to the registration office to finish the registration process and youre assigned a bench. Then you can opt to pay for keychain pictures, which we did for whatever reason. Then the church takes a free picture. **OKAY** so this part infuriated me. My 4 year old son was with me, my daughter, the Godparents, and my husband to take the picture. The photographer made my son stand aside as we took a picture. My son was embarrassed and just stood by unable to join in his sisters milestone. The church needs to change this asap. Anyway, everything else about the church was fine. Now, the other people there to baptize were very rude. They push and shove you so they can go first. They try to cut where there is already an established line. And then they act dumb as if you were the one shoving them. I know I am in Jesuss home, but they obviously didnt get the memo to be respectful and act like adults. The parking is terrible, too. $10.00 parking in every lot (its LA) and they fill up fast. All in all, it was fine. But it wasnt my first choice. Would I go back again, no.
