I always have so much fun here! I love the sunshine (sit in the front row for max exposure time before the shadow moves toward the track). I love the pretty view. And I love the rituals of the racing. The way they warm up the horses, number the horses, walk the horses, then the trumpeter does his thing, then they tether the horses, walk them to the gate, load them into the gates, run, weigh jockey, photograph winner. Repeat. Its nice, and theres a peaceful, graceful rhythm to it. And the horses are really beautiful to watch.

This is the second time my family has been to Sunset Ranch on vacation, and it was just as great this time as the first. We did the one hour tour and had a great experience. The people working at the ranch make you feel comfortable on the horses, even if you have never rode on a horse before in your life. The views on these trails are amazing. There were people walking the trails in Griffith Park, but there’s no doubt that it’s a better experience with the horseback tour with Sunset Ranch. The prices are super reasonable, and it will always be a must-do for my family every time we visit the Los Angeles area.

I loved my time there. I took my husband there as part of a birthday gift. We had the VIP package where you get to dine in the club and watch the race from there. The club was huge and food was ok. I wasnt expecting great food since it was about the race. We betted a few and won some $. Later on, we sent down to the track to watch the race which had an entirely different feel to it. All the staff were very friendly and helpful.

Ive never done horse racing before, but learning how to here was a blast. I went during dollar days for a friends birthday party and it was a ton of fun. You buy tokens for a $1 and then turn in the tokens for beer, hot dogs, soda or water. My advice is to not buy too many tokens to start with. You can always get more and the lines move quickly.

We started our LA VACAY with a ride at Sunset Ranch. It was a great decision! We got to see the Hollywood sign without hiking up. With 3 smaller children, it was the best decision. There is ample parking and some great photo ops. The staff was friendly and the horses were great. Our guides were amazing and made us feel welcome. You can tell they love their job! Only thing I can tell you is go the restroom before you hit the ranch, there are only port-a-potties that can be too large for a kid to use comfortably. Do not think twice about booking here, you will love it!

Really great experience. I cant wait to come back. It was my first time horseback riding. The staff were all very friendly and professional! They ask you your riding level and then choose a horse that is suitable for you. No experience required. They teach you some basics on how to hold the reins. My friend and I got there early for our tour and while we waited we were welcome to chill on the ranch and visit the horses that were hanging out in stalls. They let us pet the horses and feed them. Our guide was great. Very knowledgeable and professional and fun! I felt that I was in good hands.I was nervous in the beginning because the horses, as I learned, like to walk at the edge of the cliff because they instinctively feel safer that way. It was scary to me at first! After a while I was encouraged to trust that the horse knows what its doing. Once I did that, it was a beautiful experience, with an excellent view of Los Angeles. If you can get over your fear of heights, its really fun! The guide helped take pictures of me and my friend (without charging us extra like many places). I really appreciated it! I had a great time. I cant wait to come back again.

Sunset Ranch is a beautiful place for some casual horseback riding. Located up in the hills you get to see some amazing sights of DTLA as well as on a very clear day (2-3 after a good rain) you can even see as far down as the coast. Not to mention its horseback riding, whats not to love. If I could give it 6 stars I could. T.I.P though, the guide will adress you by the name of the horse NOT your name, so just be prepared to remember the name of your horse when you get on.

My horseback riding tour was awesome. I use a wheelchair and have a brace on my right leg because I cant really control it. They said that I could try and see if I would be able to get on and they were extremely helpful. Like way more hands on than anything else Ive done where I needed help. So I was able to get on and they made adjustments to the saddle. They also let us drive up to the ranch area to park because the parking area was further down and wouldve required a steep roll to the ranch area. Kelsey was my tour guide and was really nice and made sure we all stuck together and were comfortable. Overall, the experience was amazing and Im so glad they were patient enough to let me at least see if I would be able to do the tour.

Terrible time! The horse I was given (Anna) refused to go on the trail and I did everything the guide told me to do but she was not having it! She stopped after each minute of walking. I even mentioned I wasn’t having a good time. This was going on for 30 mins and I paid for 1 hour private ride with my husband. The guide was only a volunteer so she looked super confused when my horse didn’t want to participate on the trail. Not the greatest customer service at all.

We did the 1 hour tour. It was nice and scary. It was nice because of the views. It was scary because the horses walk close to the edge of the mountain. The guides were great and attentive to the inexperienced and fearful riders. However, the care of the horses should be attended to more often. One of the horses was dragging its feet, kept stopping and kept tripping on its feet. You can tell there was something wrong with the horse. I hope with my complaint they allowed the horse to rest and to check on it to ensure its health and safety for other riders.

1 word - Misty! I have been here quite a few times and enjoyed each visit, however, my 2-hour private ride to the Hollywood sign w/Misty was the first time a review was completely warranted. Super honest, transparent and just a dope human being. She also saved me when my horse tried to hide in a pepper tree w/me on it! It was the most hilarious/nervous moment, yet she never left my side and held onto the reigns until Pepper behaved lol. She even taught me how to go in circles when Pepper had a change of heart. She fully explained horse behavior and gave me a few laughs along the way to ease me. She also gave me check up moments to make sure I was comfortable and Ok. No other guide Ive had has been so on it! 50 stars Misty! I hope one day you get your own huge ranch, cause girl you can teach!! And youre a fast thinker in unexpected scenarios w/horses. Horses dont follow a script, but she followed safety to a T.

We had a fabulous time on this one hour trail ride in the foot hills below the Hollywood sign. Our tour guides were Lauren and Eve. Our guides were very experienced and did an amazing job on arranging our group together after we were on the trail. They explained that the horses like to travel in a single file as a protection. The lead horse keeps his ears and head forward to be aware for the group so that the group is aware of what is happening in the front. The rear most horse keeps his ears alert for protection for the rear of the group. The horses in the middle keep their ears focused for the lateral sounds and possible dangers for the group. Even though the horses walk along the edge of the roads with steep drop offs they know exactly what they are doing and they protect themselves and the riders. The horses like to be able to see what is below them in the trails and bushes. I totally trusted Little Bro and allowed him to take care of me. It was a very enjoyable ride. The guides did a great job of pairing the horses with the riders abilities and took pictures of the ride.Jason manages the ranch and has many years of experience as a cowboy. Sarah took care of the safety briefing and the introduction of the guides and ensuring all of the paperwork was properly completed.Even though I had some experience with horseback riding it had been so long that I almost felt like a beginner and actually listed myself as such. I felt totally comfortable during the ride.Sunset ranch staff are amazing! I highly recommend them. You will have a memorable experience.

The check-in process was a bit of a cluster and parking is kind of weird, but other than that, overall, a great time. They said they would teach you the riding skills you need to become a guide at the beginning of the day and towards the middle of the day theh said they bo longer had the time to teach you. One of the guides tried to walk me through what to do during my riding exam, while I was still on the horse; however the main test takers disapproves of that and then had him show me what to do by having me watch him preform the maneuver, which was way less helpful.

Horses were quite easy to ride, but took a little getting used to at the start.Wouldn’t recommend if you have a fear of heights - you are climbing a mountain and the horses typically like to walk on the very edge of the path (right near the cliff), so it can be pretty terrifying.
