I wasn’t sure about the museum at first. It’s housed in the old TWA headquarters, but it’s surrounded by other businesses in the building. After finding what appeared to be a one room museum I was further concerned that I had to have a guided tour. I was totally wrong about everything. Not only does the museum extend to multiple spaces (with more interesting stuff on the way), but Greg, my tour guide was awesome. Even the gift shop, which contains actual TWA items, was super reasonable. Definitely a great way to spend an hour or so.

The TWA museum was pretty neat! Guided tour in which the guides are very knowledgeable, and had a lot of interesting facts! Cool to see how the planes became more and more technologically advanced and to see the actuall rooms and desks and materials they used on a daily baisis. The flight simulator was pretty cool as well!

I love this museum! The building was originally used by TWA and offers so much memorabilia. The museum features flight attendant uniforms throughout the decades, countless aircraft models, amenities and equipment offered and used by the airline, pilot training simulators, and a Constellation simulator you’re able to experience! What really ties it all together is the staff! Each tour guide has a unique history involving the airline which allows you visit multiple times and always hear something new. I definitely recommend making this a go-to in Kansas City!

Enjoyed the history of TWA from a employee perspective. The airline was the darling of the sky’s but it demise was premature. There is a lot of aviation history in Kansas with the Wichita manufacturing and the airlines based out of Kansas City. The exhibits and information was fantastic for any aviation buff. Some of the memorabilia makes me jealous. Enjoy and find the hidden treasure that this place has.

Up, Up and AwayI love to find quirky museums that offer a treasure chest full of information. Today, that place was the TWA museum. How do you place 75 years of aviation history, 1925-2000, into one visit? Carefully and by order. The displays are well organized and with the help of either a pamphlet self-guided or guided tour, each case is labeled with pertinent information presented and coordinated with the brochure given after you pay the 10.00 admission fee. My favorite case, no.3, displayed the history of the TWA Hostess uniforms from the 1930’s through 1971. You’ll be introduced to the very first flight uniform drawn by George Petty. The Cutout uniform designed by Howard Geer provided a discreet flap cover that was used to disguise the user in uniform allowing her to smoke in public. In 1968 the ‘Foreign Accent’ dresses were paper and coordinated with TWA’s “Taste of Europe” tours. During the 1970’s, Valentino designed uniforms and the allowance of “hot pants” as a uniform option showed how current trends in fashion crossed into air travel.Other cases are collected memorabilia by TWA employees, vintage pilot uniforms, various menus for first class, the Amelia Earhart chair, the ground crews’ tools and more. You can experience the flight simulator by taking flight and landing a plane (so much for my career as a pilot). During the tour of the hanger you will visit the education room and LAX training equipment. You are later lead onto the tarmac to get a close up look at a couple of the TWA planes.I didn’t expect to have so much fun with the staff to the point I wanted to work as a volunteer. Pam B, the director, is a hoot and kept me laughing while she mixed humor with historical facts. Janet and Nina, volunteers in the gift shop, brightened my day with their kindness. And Arthur handled the high temperatures with grace as he escorted us out to the airplanes.Overall: For a small museum, you will find so much information at every turn and within every showcase. The volunteers are knowledgeable and a pleasure to interact with. This was worth the visit and brought back so many wonderful memories.

This museum is such s jewel, tucked into the downtown airport. The tour took about 90 mins. That alone tells you how much there is to see. There are pictures, memorabilia, models, an actual plane built in the 40s and simulators used to train pilots and cabin crew. I even got to sit in original seats from an actual TWA plane. Its true! We have lost a lot of leg room.Fun for all ages!

A very cool piece of history. Our tour guide was a mechanic there for over 39 years who obviously enjoys what he does and knows quite a bit about the company. There are a lot of things there to see that are aviation-related, specifically TWA that may not be interesting to some but for pilots and those in the airline industry it is an impressive piece of history.

Loved this museum! My dad worked for TWA for 36 years. I have the fondest memories of dressing up to go to the downtown airport for the Christmas party, and Santa handing out presents. We always dressed up to fly also, and thats still in my head when I fly. I really miss TWA.

This was a wonderful find in Kansas City, which is located inside the Signature Air terminal. We were looking for something to do on a nice afternoon and this was a great place to spend a few hours. There are some really cool artifacts and TWA memorabilia here. We were lucky when we took this tour on a Saturday afternoon, because our guide was a retired TWA mechanic and he was very knowledgeable about the history of the company and items on display

We had a good time and thought it was worth the admission. If you have no native interest in TWA, maybe not, but some of the trivia and artifacts are fascinating. The day we went, the restored Constellation airplane was closed because of the heat. Since that appears to be the star of the show, I docked them one star.

An okay little museum that seems to be maintained by the former employees of TWA in the back room of a building that used to house TWAs offices. Its got a good variety of displays there of various artifacts and models. That being said, theyve got no actual aircraft on display, and they actually expect you to pay admission to see their two rooms of exhibits.I think that it would be in their best interest to merge with the Airlines Museum on the other side of the airport, as they actually have some TWA aircraft in great condition, but not that much airline memorabilia.

Fantastic place. Aviation lovers will feel right at home. The museum group has gathered a wonderful collection of twa items from a long lost but not forgotten era. We met some wonderful and passionate people who are true lovers of twa and the world of aviation. With much passion twa airport lounges were recreated in full seize, educational equipment is on display and the soon to open library will reveal treasures of its own. Take a flight in one of the simulators, engage in a conversation regarding the twa 800 tragedy before you pick up a souvenir in the gift shop.
