Would just love to see inside, especially during the restoration work, or at least before they finish working on her. Awesome looking place but I would bet its even better at night! A fence surrounds the place so you cant see much more than these pictures unless you had binoculars. Thanks for keeping her up and safe from stupid people.

Its worth driving by if you are in the Shawnee area to see a piece of history. The place hasnt been maintained and is falling apart. It is fenced off on private property with a guard dog and no trespassing signs so you will only get a view from the street.

The last of its kind that I visited. Unfortunately, as others have said, it’s not well kept. And unlike Kathy - another reviewer - I wish I could have gone inside.

A run down haunted castle. At this point no one can go in but hopefully someone will restore or do something with it. Still fun to take out of towers by for the history.

I wonder if the owner will ever do anything besides sit on his stack of money and laugh at everyone who wants the history preserved.

It is not haunted as kids we would always ride our horse around the castle and through the woods.Mr Berry the caretaker would be cutting the grass With the biggest and oldest mower we had ever seen. My brother and neighborhood friends helped on a field restoration. In the dining room Hidden servant door that would take you to the upstairs kitchen. open the wall and stairs in the wall to the upstairs kitchen Mr. Berry showed us boys a cellar door on the garage floor that led to a tunnel that went north under the front yard down. he said to the river. I never went in the garage again

This is a privately owned house. It is NEVER OPEN TO THE PUBLIC. The rumors of haunting only encourage trespassers. Vandalism has caused major damage.

Cool old castle. I love to drive people by when they are in form out of town. If that place could talk imagine the story it would tell. I wish the owner would let the City do something with it. Its such a beautiful piece of history just rotting away into nothing. I would be the first in line to volunteer with renovation too. (just because i want to see the inside) ;)

Its been several years back but I was lucky enough to get to go inside the house. My sister and I drove by and there were people outside working in the yard and so they let us go in and we went all the way up to where the Bell is at the top and you can see the city from up there. There are many stairs and many doors and at least five marble fireplaces. It was in very good condition when I went but from what Im reading it has deteriorated obviously because no ones taking care of it which is to me very sad. I love old architecture and I wish they would open it to the public because it is really a cool place to see.

Awesome landmark . Sadly its in a major state of disrepair . Ive been told it is owned by a family member. This person was to have began renovations years ago- and hasnt . I think the family time limit should be up- and it should go on the market. Someone could make this place AMAZING!

My family was very close with Paul Berry who owned it until the late 1980s and I stayed there in the summer months for many years in a row! It really was haunted; and oh the stories I could tell! He had to use German Shepherds to keep spectators away. Had the most gorgeous staircase with a continuous banister that went for at least 3 floors! What a historic treasure!

It is possibly haunted by ghosts of the slaves that once tried to escape through tunnels they dug and then collapsed back during the civil war. The poltergeist is said to be in the form of ravenous hounds that once guarded the house and demented landlord. No trespassing.

That is an old creepy-looking mansion that was built in the 19th century along to Anton sour and it is a national historical monument that I come by there in October has that haunted house look to it and even if it is all gated up that the owner would not let any one pass by.

Really cool looking house. I went by recently to take pictures as I looked for Kansas City, KS landmarks, and the caretaker was outside. I spoke with him and he said that a girl just jumped the fence five minutes before I got there trying to get to the house. He asked me if I knew the girl, kind of suspiciously, and I said no. He said she ran off into the woods when he caught her.He said that every time they try to fix the house up that someone comes and breaks the windows or does damage. Too bad- it would be great to be able to go inside, but I doubt that will ever happen. Not in a great neighborhood, and off the beaten path.

I live across the woods from this place. The castle has become severely damaged these past years and is unrecognizable the current owner refuses to do repairs and because of this the houses structure has suffered. I do not know what the future will bring but as things stand as of right now this castle will one day be destroyed.
