The good: Cool collection of aviation history. Seeing how airlines performed in the past is eye opening and nothing like it is today. This collection is worth seeing, it’s worth the time and money. The gentleman working in the office is kind and knowledgeable of all the items they have. If you’re an aviation nut like me this is a must while in KC.The bad: Visited during second week of August 2020 and the hanger was a little warm. Few hands on exhibits closed due to Covid

There are not many signs to tell you about the planes display. There are two planes that you can go inside. Since they are trying to restore them, they ask for a donation to go through them. There was a gentleman who spoke with us and he was friendly and knowledgeable. Overall, this was a small museum that was neat to visit.

Finally got a chance to check this museum out. It is so much more than what I thought it was going to be! The history that just exudes from the entire hangar, let alone the wonderful aircraft they have... This place is absolutely unappreciated and should not be missed. Our guide was very friendly, knowledgeable and was just the right amount of tell you about things and let you check it out yourself. Support this museum, these are the kinds of places that are few and far between these days.

An interesting place that’s jammed full of things to see. Would be even neater if the piles of stuff strewn about the hanger were organized and labeled. I was more interested in what wasn’t actually displayed then what was!

Good museum for learning about passenger aviation in the 1940s-1960s era. It was really interesting to walk aboard the two planes and compare them to the air-travel experience of today. I also enjoyed the gallery with the old uniforms, photos, and other artifacts. The tour guide was very knowledgeable but focused perhaps a bit too heavily on technical details. The admission is supposed to be $8 for adults but we were charged $10 each.

We arrived at 10am on a Thursday and the gate was locked. I called two times, and no one answered. We waited around for 20 minutes (along with another car) and then finally left. No where online, or on their facebook page did it say they were to be closed today. If this establishment needed to be closed for any reason, they should have updated their social media to let people know. Poor communication and a let down.

Came today, Thursday, 11am, no holiday aside from pi day, super excited about visiting and they were closed. All locked up, no sign, no answer on the phone. Maybe the hours need to be updated, maybe its seasonal... who knows. But this was exceedingly disappointing for me.Update: apparently theyre closed today for a plumbing issue. Check their Facebook for closures or call ahead.Apparently theyve been closed for 3 months. Thanks for the notice.

Luxury flying in its day.Tour guide gave lengthy, but extremely knowledgeable overview and tour. Quite knowledgeable in fact.Overall, it a very cool way to spend an afternoon.

This attraction is a great way to spend a couple of hours while in Kansas City. The tour gives you some information about some of the earlier TWA planes, as well as history of the airport, and you get to walk through a Connie and another plane they have on display. Our tour guide was really knowledgeable and provided a great experience. If you have the time, stop by and take in this museum and support their preservation and restorations efforts.

Awesome place. My parents and wife loved it. Very old airplanes available to see from inside, airplane engine are opened to see inside. No fighting planes thought. Our Guide was a great and knowledged guy, he explained everything and answered all our questions. Entry fee was only 8$.There is another TWA museum near by, I think that doesnt have any plans to see, only picture. Entry fee is separate for both of these places.

I really enjoyed this place. The tour guide was a retired TWA pilot who got to fly several of the planes in display. He knew his stuff and the large amount of knowledge made the museum much more enjoyable. There is also a flight simulator that you can get on (but have to pay separately). Wear cool clothing as the planes are stored in an actual hangar that can get hot.

If youre an aviation buff, this museum offers a tour of several famous aircraft that represent highlights of civil aviation history. With a quick walk-through and explanation of each bird. I had a one on one tour with a retiree that got long winded at times but was enjoyable to learn the history of each aircraft and design. The main exhibit is a Lockheed constellation, an airliner that was designed by the same man that designed the U-2 and SR-71 blackbird.

Review №50

A decent small museum with 3 well maintained aircraft (DC3, Martin 404, and Lockheed Constellation) in TWA livery, as well as an L1011 that theyre going to be working on maintaining. Aside from that, theyve got a 10min video that they have you sit and watch, then you can wandering into an artifact room, where you can see memorabilia from different ages of air travel. They wont let you into the hangar where the aircraft are without an escort to comply with FAA regs for hot ramp access (completely understandable), but their docent took his dear sweet time talking to the other couple that had shown up at the same time as I did. I was hoping to move along the tour a little faster than the guide did, but he couldnt catch a hint, and the people at the front desk were kind of aloof. While the guide had a vast amount of knowledge of the aircraft, it definitely feels like a hobbyist-level effort to keep the museum going. I think that it would be in their best interest to merge with the TWA Museum on the other side of the airport, as they actually have a lot of good TWA memorabilia, but no actual aircraft.

It doesnt look like much from the outside...and to be honest my initial impression when walking in was nothing impressive either, but the staff here and the guided tour make visiting this museum WORTH IT. The guides for the tours are extremely knowledgeable and are very passionate. The hangar they have to actually repair, renovate, and store their planes and other projects is full of history and cool insights to the inner workings of aircrafts. Obviously, it would benefit you to be at least semi-interested in aircrafts, but if you even have the slightest curiosity, this museum should definitely be a stop during your visit to KC!

Laurie and I enjoyed the museum and stories even though were not plane geeks. Weve traveled a lot and were delighted to see some of the relics from a bygone age of air travel elegance and sophistication. The experience starts with a movie that provides some context and history then a docent-led tour begins. Our guide, Gus, was very knowledgeable and had some great stories and anecdotes. Our tour was enhanced by having a SouthWest Airlines captain in our group who was an airplane geek like Gus!The collection of uniforms, even the paper ones from the 60s was fun to see. As well as some of the equipment used behind the scenes.Loved seeing and walking through the Lockheed Constellation in person after seeing picture and reading about them for years! Its classier and more graceful looking than I imagined it would be!

Very interesting. Definitely worth the time for adults and $8 entrance fee if you are even mildly interested in aircraft or history. It is a great time for kids, but they NEED to be able to behave because the tour is in a working aircraft hanger and there are lots of ways for kids to hurt themselves if they are running around.

This is unlike most museums in that you cant just walk around on your own. You have to have a guide show you around. Im assuming it is for safety reasons as they actively work on restoring planes here. However, it is not that interesting to a kid who doesnt care about the history and just wants to look at airplanes without being led around.
