Oh wow!!! The chocolate here is super fantastic and tasty. As a tourist visiting the Big Island, it was highly recommended that if we were to travel towards the Volcano National Park that we visit the Big Island Candies and boy were we like little kids. The store is the actual candies and chocolate making factory that allows visitors to view employees making and wrapping chocolate into boxes and it was a pretty cool site to see. As we were recommended to come here, I will do the same and forward this review for viewers to go visit this store, you will mot be disappointed.

Who DOESNT love Big Island Candies??! Even if youre not going to buy anything, come through to look at their beautiful seasonal displays. During our limited activities due to the pandemic, the store has reopened, but is running about half staff, and the shelves and displays are more limited. BUT, you can still find your favorite cookies and candies, and the staff is still incredibly friendly and helpful. When its running full steam, you can watch the kitchen activity through a huge window as they make their fresh, tasty treats. And they are super grateful people are still coming to shop... Safely. We keep a stash of BIC boxes as hostess gifts or to thank people for their kindness and help. When they see the box, they always accept with a huge smile!

Its wonderful that Big island candies is able to open during this pandemic! Inventory is limited but everything thats there is fresh and delicious! Support local business, where Im ask wash your hands and stay safe aloha

Busy cookie and chocolate store. The free samples of the products and coffee - a bonus. Lots of cookie and candy packages to select from.They provide a very nice brochure with pictures and descriptions of all the items they hand make on site.The employees and cashiers are very helpful and courteous. The products can also be shipped from this location or you can buy online.Parking is adequate, and make sure you pick up one of their free product punch cards. The more you buy, you receive credit towards other items once you accumulate over $100 worth of their candies or cookies - good in store or online.

Such a fun and expensive place to visit. Really worth the going if you love cookies and shortbreads. I believe theyre the competitor for Aloha cookies, except this place doesnt let you try and pick your own cookies, and they have more variable type of sweets, such as candies, biscotti, chocolate, as well as souvenirs. Love the decorations and how well they put the entire store.

People are friendly and helpful. I especially like enjoying the glass and other inspiring artwork from around the world.You can watch the ladies enrobing the cookies in chocolate.It would be perfect if they had ice cream cones. Yum

No more samples and coffee due to Covid when you walk in; and a much smaller inventory on shelves but the mika mints never disappoint and the handful of shortbread cookies when you purchase was a pleasant surprise!

Covid has shelves pretty bare. But service wise staff is knowledgeable and helpful. The are on a reduced factory schedule so better to call before you go. Else order online.

Samples as soon as you enter plus coffee offered right after. Every sample was extremely delicious. Due to the hot weather I decided not to buy from there until I am leaving the island, since its really close to the airport anyway. So I figured Ill grab some before I go. You can watch them manufacturing the chocolate in the factory style shop behind glass windows.

We stopped in here for a quick stop and it was amazing. We were met at the door with various samples of the cookies and chocolates. Delicious!! Make sure you visit if you have a sweet tooth and make sure to save some room in your luggage.

Twice the Apple pie crust chewy and it took 1hr and 45 mins to cook and the apples very tart!!!! Never buying again!!!!

Came here for the new limited SALT cookies. You will enjoy free samples and Kona coffee. We liked their cripy rice chocolate very much. The new salt cookie has a decent butter flavor and you better come early morning to get them. We brought their famous shortbread cookies as treat to office colleague. A perfect place for authentic Big Island souvenirs.

Swear so much good to say about the Big Island! In Hilo went to the candy factory. First parking is free, entrance was free, free candy samples of so many types of candies. When your about to enter they open the door and greet you with their famous chocolates. So much love in Hawaii :)

All of the treats are made on site and you can view the process through the glass window on the store. They offer free samples and everything tastes great! It is a bit pricey than conventional candy stores but well worth it.

My favorite chocolate store on Big Island. When you walk in you are greeted with aloha and the lovely smell of fresh chocolate and freshly brewed coffee. They are always generous with allowing you to try samples to find your favorite chocolates or cookies to purchase. You’ll definitely want to leave buying more than one box of deliciousness.Here you can watch them making the treats through the windows that look into the factory while sipping on your complementary sample sized coffee. Although difficult to pick just one, my personal favorites are the cocoa dusted chocolate covered almonds. A great place to indulge yourself with a sweet treat or purchase gifts for loved ones. In fact, their gift boxes are so beautiful, you will want to keep it to reuse for storing fun little things at home!

A great place to sample Kona Coffee and top notch chocolates. Watch the factory produce the chocolates, and take some home with you. If you are planning a trip when the cruise ship is in town, plan for a crowded store. I would recommend going at an off peak time - the store will be much less crowded and much more enjoyable. You will be able to find the perfect box of chocolates.

Do not go here if you have a sweet tooth. It is retail therapy for chocoholics. They even have a glass window wall where you can watch the workers make the deadly for your waistline delights. They even have a coffee bar and samples to eat. Only if I could save some for friends on the Mainland. But it gets eaten first on the way over.

Great place to shop for some delicious snacks. It does get busy at times when there are tour buses in the area, I would avoid this place if you see the tour buses in. It gets way too crowded and the line for payment is too long to wait. Come back in an hour and it will be cleared out and a lot more bearable. The cookies here are delicious and they offer some other candies, mainly things covered in chocolate. The samples are delicious too. They have coffee onsite and that too is good but a little on the expensive side, depending on what you usually spend on coffee.

I loved the samples they gave out in the store. They were delicious and it felt like a whole new world. Staff were very nice and I liked that they put a window for visitors to get a view of the inside of the candy factory. Staff were very friendly and helpful. The factory had a wide selection of treats to choose from. I bought a small box of chocolates from the store that tasted amazing. If youre going to Hilo you should stop here.

Good place to get all the Big Island foods you need. Customer service is great, they let you sample any of the products before you buy, and you can see inside the factory and watch the workers make the product. Prices are not any different from ordering online, but if you are in the area, I would recommend visiting.

Great service, experienced helpers on the floor, large selection of items, clean and a good view of the dipped cookie process. They have restrooms available which were clean and nice. A little pricey but they give you nice reusable bags with your purchase.

Great service and candy. Coffee bar and smoothie bar too! Many tours stop here and you can get candy and coffees. We watched as the team in the bakery made the candy and cookies we ate. By the way, the squid candy is actually strips of coconut dipped in chocolate. We saw them making it and I just had to have some!

A big chocolate store with an amazing selection. Free samples when you arrive. There is a factory on site that is visible through a large window in the store. It can get pretty crowded. We saw a couple of tour buses come through. I purchased some chocolate covered caramels, some chocolate covered macadamia nuts, and a mochi chocolate cake. All were outstanding. Be sure to ask for a free ice pack so your chocolate doesnt melt on the way home.

Love Big Island Candies!! My parents live on the Big Island, and every year I make them drive me over to Hilo to get free samples (shortbread and Kona coffee), see them hand-dipping the cookies, and buy myself a box of chocolate covered shortbread cookies (sometimes I even buy some for gifts because they come in a nice box. They also decorate the place so beautifully!

You can just walk in and watch them as they make the cookies, no hidden ingredients or processes. It is great to know how your cookie was made and what it was made with, unlike other cookies you can get from Walmart or other retailers. They are a little pricey but well worth it!

What a great place to stop and enjoy some chocolate. Great staff!!! All the free samples you want! All you need to do is ask. We have been home from the islands for 2 weeks and we are still eating candy from this store we bought so much of it. This is the only place I have seen passion fruit brownies and taro shortbread cookies so I will be going through withdrawal soon. Mahalo to Big Island Candies. Very tasty candies with friendly staff. Its easy to go overboard here and try taking home half the store. Samples are available for everything on request. A large window allows visitors to see the cooking and packaging process.

This is a nice place for a quick visit. The staff are incredibly friendly and hand out samples so you can try what they are making. There is a window area near the back good for kids to watch the candy, cookies and brownies being made. I think we were there about 15-20 minutes so it doesnt take long. The cookies are good too and they have coffee!

It used to be a nice place where you could try a lot of samples before purchasing the product. And it was a good idea especially when you are playing $10 per 4 Oz of cookies. This days they have no samples at all unless you kindly ask for it. They treat good only Japanese tourists , probably they have agreement with tourist companies who bring big buses packed with Japanese people. If you are regular white person dont expect good service. We are visiting them couple times a year for the last 7 years. So we noticed that bad transformation eventhough we always spend around $100 for those cookies. Cookies are good good by the way;)

Im not a coffee person but I was when I went here. Delicious coffee and dessert samples that never ended! Staff was very friendly and kept the samples coming! The desserts pair very well with the coffee. I recommend visiting to get a taste of Kona coffee.
