It has such a beautiful view right here is the bus station. That has somone to help you with the bus schedule. I still cant read it. So believe me that is a major plus. The ochen it right here you can sit at the beach while you are whating to catch a bus. And all of down town is also so close and the fabulous farmers market is here also. Its a must stop. You havent ben to hilo if you havent ben here.

I was born in Hilo and can remember it from a young age before the drug and alcohol problems and homeless people flocked into town. When i was 4, there was a carnival that used to take place there. It was a simple one. I think the bandstand was there although i dont remember it. There were a few carnival rides...a wooden ferris wheel, the salt and pepper shaker that looked like a little rocket ship on each end that could only fit one person on either end. Its difficult to describe it. For a four year old, i wasnt scared but im wondering where it went and why it was even there only for one time? I remember there was a little roller coaster thing that was appropriate for a four year old because it wasnt really too high off the ground. The roller coaster thing i seen at the equestrian part of the Panaewa Zoo a while back. Other than that, the bus stop was already there. That i can remember because the roller coaster was right infront where the busses now pull up to pick people up for work! The bandstand though, the shower trees, I dont remember. The banyan mustve always been there and should never be cut down! At least the branches wont fall on someones head and the side walks and roadways can always be fixed. Leave the trees alone. Even the coconut trees and that stinky one. It provides shade for us to keep cool on hot sunny days. Just dont climb any of it or you might fall and thats your own fault. It is also not for living in or hiding out. And please dont piss there. The ground directly under the trees dont get rained on and people like me and other people with kids like to go there from time to time and walk around, sit down and picnic with their families.

The bandstand across from the ocean is lovely and has been a place of entertainment and revelry for generations. A favourite gathering place for locals.

Amazung underground lava tubes and structures. Dark, compelling beauty. Bring a good flashlight. Be careful in 2019 a man fell into a hidden hole 22 feet and was killed in his own backyard.

The park in so beautiful and has a gazibo which bands pay great music plus the structure goes back many, many years with lost of history. The trees are majestic. I only took a couple pictures but Ill go down and get more. Another great feature is the bus terminal and information stand are on the park grounds so if you need to get somewhere this is the best place to start.

Even though this place is in the heart of downtown with the heaviest concentration of tourists and homeless people- or those who are Home free, MoOheau Park is an oasis for tired travelers. The service by both Hele-on bus (Public Transportation) and the security guard is appreciated. They have a tough job. This is also a hub for paradise destinations in every direction! North to the Hamakua Coast and Honokaa Town, Waimea and Hawi. South to Puna, and the Lava flow.West goes up to Rainbow Falls and Saddle Road, Mauna Kea and Kailua Kona.East goes all along Hilos world-famous lagoons and vistas to several Beach Parks.Be EXTRA mindful in all directions of local Hawaiians who do not all enjoy heavy traffic and too many tourists. We all have the responsibility to be sensitive, respectful and helpful to local and especially indigenous people.Apply the Golden Rule.

What a dump. Its literally a piece of grass wedged between two strips of highway. Its a very unusual day when there arent at least half a dozen hobos staking a land claim to the place and most of the time, its noisy because of the traffic and locals playing rap music at full volume in their Mad Max trucks. I do not see a single reason to go to this place.

I I love Mooheau Park in beautiful downtown Hilo, running parallel to the bay always, but without question one of my favorite times to be there is for the Fourth of July fireworks show with the band playing so well in sync with the fireworks its always a great time. Theres always a cool classic car show with hundreds of autos, and food trucks and fun for the keikis and so much more. Its a great place to gather every day, picnic in the shade of the gorgeous trees, watching and listening to the surf right in front of the park, and u can catch a bus at the bus station there, or utilize one of several parking lots to conveniently park there while u enjoy the park and the surrounding Hilo area. There are a number of really lovely restaurants and shops across the street from, and even a nice open air market, boasting yummy locally grown produce, tempting taste treats, baked goods, local artistswares, clothes, flowers, jewelry, so many gift items and the pleasure of getting to chat with and experience the real aloha of beautiful down to earth local folks. ENJOY!

Old Railroad station is the centerpiece of the park and it is the Hele-On bus terminal. This is the place where you can find tourist information and details about public transportation to all of the local attractions. You can catch a bus to Volcanos National Park which will take you from downtown Hilo to the park visitors center inside the park gates. There is a bandstand in the Mooheau Park that often has free music performances and community events. There are several beautiful banyon trees in the park and it is a great place to have a picnic or just sit in the shade and people watch. Nearby restaurants, museums, markets, shopping, parks and sight seeing. The Hilo Farmers market is directly across the street from the Mooheau bus station where you can find many delicious local fruits, pineapples coconuts, macadamia nuts, mangos, papaya, and many other locally produced items. The Hilo Bay beach is just steps away and outrigger rentals are available. You can see most of what Hilo has to offer in just this one place. If you only have a short time in town, a visit to Mooheau Park is the best way to get a taste of Hilo. It is also the best place to launch the rest of your visit to the Big Island of Hawaii. Taxi Cabs, tour busses and other transportation options are available from here. Bus fare is $2.00 per person (regular) $1.00 (senior, child and disabled) most busses have wheelchair access, but remember that you are not in the big city so dont worry about getting to and from places on time because you are on Hawaiian time when you are in Hilo. Enjoy your time in Hilo and relax. No huhu. Aloha

This is a major hub for all points distant around Hawaiis largest Island. And this is the place to catch a bus to the Airport. Across one street is the Hilo Farmers Market. On the other side is Hilo Bay. The world famous Hilo Bayfront stretches another few blocks toward North Shore and the Haumakua Coast.
