The black sand is beautiful. The beach is clean and accessible. We went there in christmas day, the surf was sporty But manageable for an intermediate swimmer. It is more beautiful in person than any photo can describe.

A very accessible and lovely beach. Near Hilo downtown. Quiet. Not crowded. Classic karma building location. Bring the kids and Grandma. Just sit and watch the bay and banyon trees. Chillax dudes.

We loved this locals hangout. Be sure to bring a chair or blanket to take a snooze in the sun. Clean facilities but not much parking. Try a week day or an overcast day if you like a quieter experience.

The beach is a combination of things. Its has white sand with some small Coral rock mixed. The water is brackish. During certain tides stones are revealed in the shallows. There is a grassy area and park benches. Has restrooms and showers.

Its beautiful city type beach. Lots of families and kids and protected freshwater. Clean.

Nice lagoons and semi sheltered bay. Breakwater protects the bay from huge swells but beware, the call above the water is deceiving. Strong currents make water cloudy for snorkelling. On a call clear day Im sure theres plenty to see, like my lost cell phone in an underwater sealed bag and snorkel gear & fins from paddleboarder. Turtles hang out near the side lagoon, and long canal for exploring if youre skilled enough.

Park has changed over the last decade or so. I love everything about the layout except the lack of parking along the areas I frequently visit here. We like swimming at the mouth of ICE POND and on weekends, it is difficult to find parking... But first come first served... Get there early. Water is clean and cold! This is one of the gems on the Hilo side. Bathrooms are a little ways away but they are clean and well kept as are all public beaches in Hilo. Parks and Recreation Department kicks butt here!!! Kudos guys and gals!

Delicately manicured ocean reef bay, near to Port of Hilo--- Reeds bay beach park is on the peninsular eastern seashore, Central to Hilos hotel district holding the banyan groves of the rural town. Cold water, fish and fishing helpake this spot a one-in-all adventure for tourists and locals alike.

I love to chillax here with my MaileGirl, who loves to swim in the salty ocean waters. Lots of brackish water here, so the water temperature in spots is chilly. Perfect for our hot Hawaiian afternoons.Bathrooms and showers were added a few years ago, to make chillin out easier and more comfortable.Bring your picnic basket, beach gear and enjoy!

This is a great beach if you have little kids not good around waves and drop offs into deep water. Since it is inside the protection of the harbor there is hardly ever waves so it is also good for paddle boarding and kayaking. There is regularly turtles cruising the shoreline. It is also great for picnics and bbqs as there is a lot of grass area.

Great spot in Hilo to relax and enjoy the beach. Go to the KTA on the way there, grab some poké and beer, and enjoy being away from the tourist beaches. Weve been coming here for years. There are a few beaches along this stretch to check out so if this is busy, head down the road to the next.
