I came here after a customer at my job recommended it for good sea glass hunting, and they werent kidding about that! The beach is absolutely gorgeous and there was a ton of sea glass! I found so much in just one weekend, more than Ive ever found before in my life! I came during mid-September, so the beach was relatively peaceful, and made for some very quaint and relaxing beach walks while hunting for sea glass! There are also a lot of great amenities at this beach, including bathrooms, shelters, a fishing pier, a lighthouse, a very large playground, and they also have weekly farmers markets in the courtyard in front of the entrance to the beach, and the parking is free! I cant wait to come back to this beach!!!

Its a beautiful beach park, no matter what time of year. Theres been construction going on this summer, but that hasnt stopped people from enjoying picnics, volleyball on the beach, fishing, and hiking in the sand and on the boardwalk. The bathrooms have always been clean, and the playground has opened up to a few children at a time. A lot of parking. Handicap access to both the pier, the fishing pier, and the beach

Loved fishing here! Everybody was very helpful with helping me put the hooks on the line. They also sell bait. Squid, shrimp & bloodworms (they bite) lol. The view was so beautiful! It was $8.00 for the band & $10.00 for the bait. Caught a different variety of fish & almost caught a crab! Had so much fun!

This is an interesting beach but it was clean and everyone we encountered was kind.I would deem this a working-class beach resort area. The beach is more pebbles than sand but the swimming area has almost no seaweed. We were able to leave our saddles, keys and wallet on the shore and no one touched them. There is a public restroom with shower area (showers closes due to Covid19) so everyone was using the sinks in the bathrooms. Showing the stipudy of government.Overall, we saw this on Maps and decided to have a last minute beach day between adventures.

Great beach for young families. The waves are much gentler than VA Beach, and the water is only a few feet deep for a long ways out. The beach is white sand with a bike trail, playground, picnic pavilions, and a couple piers with more pavilions on them. It did get busy around 10am on a federal holiday, so Id suggest getting there early on popular days.

Wow, Buckroe has really cleaned up over the years! Much more family friendly now, clean and easy to get to. Bathrooms are clean and accessible. Playground for the kids. Nice big pier with a huge deck and picnic tables at the end. Not huge, but frankly Id bring my family here before Id take them to Virginia Beach.

The park is really nice. It may be my favorite. I drive all the way up from Norfolk. Mostly because I come for the park, not the beach. Its surprisingly difficult to find a place where a person can just relax under a tree for a while, but Buckroe is one of the few places where that doesnt seem too weird. I dont like that there is a perfect circle of dirt instead of grass around every tree trunk and all the trees are along the paths. Its a beautiful and quiet place though and I got the impression that the surrounding neighborhood is safe enough to relax outdoors. Also the breeze from the beach is great.

Lovely beach with plenty of parking, enough space to practice social distance, attentive lifeguards and gorgeous saltwater waves (the temperature of the water was perfect) make Buckroe a great family beach. I had a great time here with my family and would go back again. One thing to remember is the undertow past the buoys can be a bit strong so stay alert when youre out there. The levels change quickly so if youre a strong swimmer you may enjoy it. If not then stay closer to shore.

A small local beach that is fairly quiet. Its well-kept but has minimal facilities and amenities as neighborhoods come right down to the beach. However, parking is free and there is a very nice fenced in playground and several picnic- and performance-gazebos.

Very very nice relaxing beach. When the weather is really nice like it was today, the scenery is fantastic. It can definitely be a very much welcome attraction whether you are from Hampton Roads or not. In MY opinion if the city of Hampton gets together and build small businesses (or more) somewhere within walking distance of the boardwalk this beach will be top notch and would benefit a lot of people

This waterfront was beautiful, less crowded than Virginia Beach and small, but seemed to have a lot of charm and peace. Definitely some place that i want to visit again, and would want to rent a place on the water for a weekend, but the 4 stars is for one of the reasons why i gave Virginia Beach 3 stars... No greasy cheesy boardwalk pizza, which made me slightly disgruntled as i was hot, tired and hadn’t eaten anything all day. And not a lot to do outside of the waterfront. There’s only a little strip of an old town and then a beat down section of town with a few shops and Anna’s Pizza that no longer is selling pizza by the slice. Rather disappointing for such a charming waterfront... I’d really build that up with more shops and amusements if i could. It might help the town financially and could turn it into a secret gem! However, it seems like it would be really romantic for a couple. Driving is a little aggressive there too.

Loved the beach. I have visited many beaches this summer and this beach is by far the best, most peaceful. Clean restrooms, ample FREE parking, short walk to reach water, less waves even small children can play on their own. Loved the area under bridge, this is one unique thing you wont find anywhere else. I went there twice with Friends and Family and enjoyed that every time. Looking forward to more trips :)

I visited Buckroe Beach on a weekday afternoon, so Im not sure what its like on the weekends. First, theres free parking up to three hours directly next to the beach, and the bathroom is also next to the beach and the parking lot. The beach itself is on the smaller, quieter side, which makes it perfect for a more relaxed, less hectic trip. All of the beachgoers were respectful of each others space and kept more than six feet between groups of people. The beach was also very clean. I would come here again for a day trip.

Water is warm and calm during the summer so its great for the kids. Need a cart to bring everything you need from parking to the beach so plan accordingly. Beach can get crowded in the summer. Overall the beach is a nice place to spend the day. Bring food and drinks as there arent any restaurants around the beach. If you want to fish while the family does the beach thing, go to the pier. Usually always catch something there. If you dont have gear, they will rent it to you along with anything else you need for a day of fishing.

It was crowded. No mask wearing, but there was enough space for everyone to keep over 6 feet safe distance. It was windy, which I believe helps dissipate the virus. It nice part of this beach is, there are areas away from the beach were you can sit under a shade with your mask and just watch if going on the sand is not your thing. I noticed older people sitting in those areas. I have it 4 stars because of the no mask culture there. Definitely a place to go if you dont want the over crowding at Virginia Beach.

I usually go here to watch the sunrise and have been a frequent visitor for well over twenty years. Throughout the years the cleanliness of the beach has started to deteriorate. Take for instance, the last time I was here there were childrens toys left behind as well as trash. Come on people. Clean up after your damn children. It got to a point where I started to pick up stuff just so that it wouldnt end up being picked up by the wildlife or in the ocean.

I’ve been going to this beach since I was born. Most of my family has grown up close by. I remember when the area was always busy with local and tourist foot and vehicle traffic but now it’s become fairly quiet. The city built a huge outdoor stage but rarely use it. It would be perfect for summer concerts and events but it hardly ever gets used so I feel like they should tear it down or utilize it more. The playground is great for the kids and the bathrooms and outdoor showers are convenient. The fishing pier is always busy in the summer and it’s nice that they have their own parking area. There’s plenty of grassy areas but again, they go mainly untouched. The sand is always clean and my kids have always had a great time on the beach! I just think it’s a missed opportunity that the city doesn’t book summer events more there, like nighttime movies for kids, reggae concerts, live performances. It’d be nice to have some local eateries there too, like a deli or ice cream shop or some gift shops and pizza places with outside eating/bar areas..

This was the beach of my childhood since we couldnt go to VA Beach due to segregation. The town is lovely and seems to be gentrifying. There is a central park around which the parking is based. There is a pavilion for shows. The shoreline itself is rather small so it makes for a little crowding. Seems there is more opportunity for vending and shopping but what was there was quite limited especially for a holiday weekend.
