If you like a little danger on your walk, try this path. One of the paths crosses a stream thats a little wide to jump across, so you have to cross on a log. If youre unsteady on your feet as I am, its best just to wear your sandals and slog through it (but, beware, because depending on your direction, you can slip afterward). And my elderly Chihuahua had to be carried over a couple streams. One of the walks (the one with the streams) is about 2+ miles by my pedometer and another trail is about 1.5. But if youre concerned about getting wet, take the paths with the woodpecker signs. The paths have been maintained well and are accessible even in the winter. This park is not used frequently so its a great place to bring your dog, but beware of branches that can snag their leash or collar. Even if youve got a dog that stays close to you, it may not be safe for them to stray from the path for that reason. In the summer, the mosquitoes are horrendous and will swarm you. No bathrooms or trash cans so pack everything out (including your dog poop, people [you know who you are]).

There are 2 trails that are marked. The bird markers cut next to the wetland. If you stay on the trail with the salamander markers you will go around the wetland. As I didnt have a map on me while on the trail I didnt take the full loop. Using the cut across my hike was less than a mile. There were no hills so it was an easy hike. There were lots of mosquitoes in the woods. They were a mild nuisance as I used some natural repellant (essential oils). Some still braved landing on me.

03/04/18 Pretty muddy and flooded in some areas of the trails due to recent rains and time of year. Overall, nice scenic trails. Seen two woodpeckers, a cardinal and other small birds. Bring out the kids and dogs for a nice walk. Great for Darke county.

Eidson Woods is part of Darke County Parks. It is pretty quiet here. Ive never encountered anyone on the trails, although I have seen activity in the parking lot. No restrooms or water, and the mosquities can be quite bad in the summer, so plan accordingly. The hiking trails loop out through the woods, through a swampy area, and back to a little creek. You may see some deer if youre quiet.

By Darke County wilderness standards, its a 5 star. Secluded, quiet, a lovely little creek, even an occasional deer.By the rest of the universes standard, its probably 3 star. Tiny, flat, no mountains, rivers or beaches, no moose or grizzly bear. All said, its a nice get away that we in Darke County dont have to drive an hour plus to enjoy. For those complaining about moosquintos in the woods, thats how its supposed to work!

Well- maintained trails. 1 mile loop takes you along a beautiful creek. A little buggy (but youre in the woods so....). A great info-board in the 8+ car parking lot.

Beware! Mosquito death trap! The walk and scenery would have been lovely if we literally had not been running for our lives to avoid being swarmed by mosquitoes. If you risk it bring gallons of bug spray and maybe you will get out alive!

Nice trails although during some parts of the year there can be quite a few mosquitoes and biting flies. There are even a few geocaches right off the trail. We had a lot of fun finding them with the help of GPS.
