This is an unusual museum that you should not miss. It has a number of educational displays and I learn something new every time I go there. Be sure to check their calendar because they have some outstanding musical presentations with fine musicians. It is conveniently located and near a number of other attractions, so theres a lot of other things to do when you visit.

Absolutely phenomenal. Period. The first thing Ill say is that this museum is small at the moment compared to the actual size of the building. After all, it has only been open since the Spring. There are only 2 rooms, one on each floor. However, they are both filled with historic grand pianos, harpsichords, and square pianos. Complete with descriptions and histories of each one. One of their grand pianos was reportedly played by Chopin for a few hours, another was unbelievably found in a chicken coop. Each one is beautiful and immaculately restored, but unfortunately not all are in tune. In fact, you cant play the majority of them (theyre roped off and dont let them catch you trying! lol). The curator Tom has big plans for this museum in the coming months, which will eventually include string instruments. I cant wait to see this museum the next time I go down to South Carolina.

This place is really neat. I especially liked that they had an app that allowed us to interact, and hear the instruments, since we cant actually play them. Its worth a stop.

As a piano technician, I find the work that Tom Strange has done to preserve our musical heritage to be absolutely outstanding. The collection is by far one of the best exhibits of historical instruments I have ever seen. I highly recommend this experience for all as well as attendance at one of their many events!

A real showcase for the Upstate of SC! A finer collection of vintage instruments is nowhere to be found in the Americas. The Broadwood piano (1845) was once played by Chopin.

A treasure of incalculable value. As a professional musician in the Carolinas who is into historical performance, I consider it unbelievably fortunate that this trove of historical knowledge, priceless instruments, and unique musical experiences exists in this area. Glorious - words cannot express. Need more stars.

The CMM is a remarkable collection of historic instruments, from the earliest keyboards to the groundbreaking electronic instruments of the 20th century. The museum is well designed with information signage that strikes the right balance between the technical needs of the professional and the lay observer. I especially like the various rotating exhibits such as the recent collection of brass instruments. This museum is a world treasure!

An evening visit for their southern music series. Heard a good local bluegrass band. Next up is Appalachian traditional music, followed by blues and jazz. Music was in a small room filled with antique keyboard instruments. Plan to visit the museum again as it looks to be quite interesting.

This is a wonderful museum with world class instruments and fascinating displays. It is only two years old but has already hosted several exhibits featuring many instruments that are often antique and rare. The new Sigal collection will help make this a must visit for all South Carolinians and a unique destination for so many more visitors to Greenville.

The museum is nice and not terribly expensive at $7 for adults, but they could really do better with a variety of instruments instead of only pianos. If you are a pianist then I would reccomend it. As guitarist and cellist I would really liked to see at least a few stringed instruments in there. I did appreciate most of the pieces from a woodworking and history standpoint, as the craftsmanship and historical significance of many of the pieces were Phenomenal. The displays are thorough, with detailed historical information and recordings of many of the instruments. I would love to see a more broad collection of instruments in the future, and it Is relatively new so hopefully they will make that happen eventually!

Loved it so very much. From the moment we stepped in and got to play a real harpsichord I knew this place was something special! Only $6 to learn so very much about the history of some magnificent instruments. The Director, Alexandra is super sweet, knowledgeable and so easy to talk to. Will definitely be back with my friends. Thank you Carolina Music Museum.

I hadnt actually added words when I reviewed it, so let me do that now:This museum is in a delightful old Coca Cola office building, but its rather surprisingly roomy on the inside. The exhibits (at current) primarily display pianos, and as long as youre gentle, youre allowed to press the keys to hear what each instrument sounds like. Often, the founders of the museum are actually there for tours of groups and sometimes working the front desks! There are also live shows here - the last one I attended was focused on Bluegrass! Its a lovely place to stop in for an afternoon - even if youre not a huge music player, the beauty of the instruments are easily appreciated.

The Carolina Music Museum provides a musical perspective of the south and a tactile presentation of the evolution of the modern piano—a true meeting of the arts and sciences. We got a chance to talk with Dr Strange and explore the wealth of information he has about these instruments. A perfect rainy day activity!

Amazing way to spend the afternoon! I took my Gram and her life long friend who was visiting from Ohio and has played for 70 years, at her church on the organ. Surprisingly I was WAY more interested then them. They have a way to listen to the spinnets and harpsicords and interactive programs on iPads. Upstairs there is a phenomenal exhibit of trumpets from different cultures and times. I would love to spend hours in here. But, my Gram was worn out after a long day and they were setting up for the grand opening of the trumpet exhibition.I got to talk briefly with the woman behind the scenes, and was very impressed with her knowledge and enthusiasm. She made me excited to be able to see these awesome pieces of our musical history.Music is like the common denominator of humankind, it crosses all borders, and unites generations. This museum may be small but its mighty! Amazing place and wonderful people who share the enthusiasm for our musical history.

If you are a composer, music historian, or piano player this collection is a must-visit. Play the very instrument that Schubert composed on. Hear Bach on an original Harpsichord. Every piece in the collection has an accompanying recording and most of the instruments are still tuned and played regularly. Check their website for upcoming concert events and consider supporting this fantastic museum’s preservation of historical music styles.

The Greenville Art Museum was unexpectedly closed last weekend, so we ended up here. What a gem! You will learn about the history of the piano, and early keyboard instruments. They are beautiful objects from a private collection, and you can listen to recordings played on some of the instruments. My favorites were the spinnet and harpsichords. There is also a schedule of performances, and I hope to attend one at some future date.
