Free attraction, limited parking. There is a guard on duty certain times of the year to limit access to the private roads. However the lighthouse is Federal property. Easier to access on bike. Once there youre treated to views of the marsh and the lighthouse as well as a walk on a long breakwater for some wonderful views of Gloucester.

We were on a tight schedule and when we got there a half hour early we were concerned about going up what seems like a private way. Found out a little while later that it is a fake deterrent to steer away beachgoers. If you are going to see the lighthouse and if you are stopped, simply let them know that you are going to the lighthouse and they will let you pass through. If you are not permitted up there then it is likely that the parking lot is full. Be patient.BE AWARE!! Do not go with a wide vehicle. The road narrows down to the size enough for only a single car and the yellow line goes down the middle believe it or not. When another car is coming in the opposite direction you will both be forced off to the sides of the road to pass each other. Do not exceed the speed limit, youll be sorry. It was a Saturday and they closed at 8 pm. Because we got there right at the last minute, the gates to the lighthouse itself were closed so we could not go inside. But it was nice that the security guard let us take several pictures before we went on our way.

The lighthouse access opens at 8am for parking 10$. If you park before the gate near the lighthouse you risk being towed. You’ll have to enter a private road but not to worry the guard will direct you where to go. The scenes are beautiful and you can walk around the lighthouse to fishing spots. I recommend getting there early on weekends. Some residents will put up signs to prevent driving down the roads but don’t worry just keep driving, they just want people to follow the rules and driving speed limit. Just be respectful and you won’t have any issues traveling around these secluded areas.

This is an awesome hideout for a day. The blue sky and the blue water are distinctive and the pathway to the middle of the ocean is just fabulous. You can go fishing in the spot. The restaurant are nice but the parking will coat you 10 bucks

Kind of a mission to get to this lighthouse but if you take the road that follows the ocean, it is such a magnificent view... you will be met by private property signs. Just ignore them and keep going and going and going. Drive slow... the roads are narrow and curved. Lots of speed bumps. The seawall is really cool... about a half mile walk out to the Dog Bar Lighthouse at the end.

First off, like so many other reviews say, the owners of the upscale homes in the area have put up signs saying private property and residents only and members only but the roads are public. it was a rainy day when I was able to go here and the below pictures are about all you can see from the small parking area. if its nice out you can go along the beach area up on the jetty and probably get better pics than I was able to. Id rate it higher because its a really nice area with some ridiculously beautiful homes on the drive out but all the misleading signs and not being able to see the lighthouse unobstructed without parkour skills kind of put a damper on things.

A nice lighthouse with free parking, fitting about 10 cars. There is a long breakwater you can walk out on, which gives you a great vantage point of the lighthouse. There are also rocks on the backside of the lighthouse that offer great views as well.

Spectacular waterbreak jetty and a private lighthouse. It is amazing walking on the jetty and feeling the seabreeze watching the seagulls and many boats go by and some docked. It is true that $10 is charged as entry/parking fee to visit the private lighthouse. It really depends on the visitors whether to pay this fee or not visit the jetty at all.

Was fortunate to watch a full moon rise from this jetty. It was good. The views are very much like being out in a boat on the open water. To the east, open water. To the north, west and south, Cape Ann and the North Shore. The jetty is very popular with fisherman as well. There is often a strong tidal current running along the ocean side. Worth the trip!

Pretty Lighthouse but difficult to reach. The road that leads to the lighthouse (Eastern Point Blvd) has a private property sign at the corner of Farrington Avenue. Further down the road there are more private property signs and one that says traffic to the Yachtclub only, no trespassing. As many people disregard the signs and still drive further down to the lighthouse, there are residents (yachtclub care taker etc) who ripp of the drivers and ask for $10.- parking fee in cash. As several other commentaters wrote, there is NO SUCH PARKING FEE! Just ignore them and don‘t pay, they affraid of calling the police, knowing it is illegal what they‘re doing! If you respect the private property signs, you may also park somewhere around Farrington Avenue and walk to the lighthouse (15Mins).However, the lighthouse itself is again private property and has a fence all around the area (as of June 2018). The tourist commission board of Gloucester or whoever is responsible should make more clear advices whether it is allowed to drive to the lighthouse or not as well as whether there is access or no access to the property. That is why I rate three stars only.PS: if you do the lighthouse cruise with Harbor Tours you may take nice pictures of the lighthouse as they pass close by - legaly...

My husband, sister in law, and I went here on a cloudy August afternoon hoping to see the lighthouse. Upon entering the road we were stopped by an old white male saying the parking lot was full at the lighthouse and we could not go. I said we just saw cars leave and he rudely replied it did not mean they were from the lighthouse because “several residents live on this road”. I highly doubt the people living there in million dollar homes drove the cheap cars we saw leaving. He instructed us to wait 30 minutes and try back. We waited in an eye view parking lot near the road sand saw SEVERAL other cars allowed on the road after we left. Along with several cars leaving the one lane road. We went back and again he turned us away! His explanation just did NOT match what we saw. We really think he did not like what he saw in our car and didn’t want us in the road.

We went there today and there was a man charging 10$ outside the lighthouse parking. He looked like he was trying to make money off tourists going to the lighthouse. He was taking cash only. We declined and drove back to the city and came back a few hours later and he was gone. A white male in his fifties with a white suv. Very sketchy and looking for a quick scam. Beautiful place but if you see a man asking for 10$ before the parking watch out who you give money too.

If you are a lover of lighthouses and shoreline scenery this is a must not miss, after all Edward Hopper loved this place too as it is proven by the many artworks of the Eastern Point Lighthouse he created. The current lighthouse tower was built in 1890 and the station was established in 1832. There are four more buildings that complete the station: The keepers house from 1879, the Oil house, Fog signal house and a garage. The actual station is closed to the public but all the surrounding area is open, there is a parking lot right next to the lighthouse and a breakwater that both are open all year long. The parking lot and the nearby Wildlife Sanctuary is maintained by the Ipswich River Wildlife Sanctuary, There is a $10.00 per car fee for non-members Memorial Day weekend to Columbus Day weekend.Reaching the Lighthouse:From Gloucester take 127 east till the intersection with 128 (just outside the town) then turn right into East Main Street direction Rocky Neck, drive past Rocky neck for aprox 1 mile until you reach an intersection with a private road sign. Ignore the menacing messages, it is not a private road and take that right turn towards the Eastern Point. The road goes past some really nice mansions, keep the right and you will reach the lighthouse after one mile. The spot is particularly spectacular when the surf is strong, and on clear days you can see the Boston skyline in the distance. Definitely worth a visit.
