Awesome experience especially for the kiddos! Got to see WWII planes that still fly today, and even got a close up behind the scenes look at some of the planes because their owners were there. We were extremely grateful that the owners were passionate about their planes that they took the time to tell their stories. Great experience and will definitely go back!

Really cool aircraft museum. A majority of their aircraft actually still fly and are airworthy, including a DC-3 and one of the last remaining B-29s still flying. Its nice to see a bit of history so well maintained, like going back in time.

Wow, without a doubt one of the coolest places to go if youre a fan of older military aircraft. The kids loved it, and normally we avoid the gift shop but the guys working in there were so helpful and full of knowledge it was a pleasure to visit, even if the kids tried to buy the place out. Bravo fellas!

Wonderful non-profit that is passionate about keeping history and aviation alive for all generations. Countless volunteering activities for all ages. It has really allowed me to learn and dig into my aviation interests and allowed me to work on pieces of history. Would recommend visiting during a ride day.

Nice place to visit and browse for only $10. A few airplanes you can look at. Some in the process of restoration. A really nice collection of engines. Also a cockpit that you can climb in and play with. Lots of memorabilia and pictures. The gift shop is nice too. A lot of fun for only $10.

As they explain, this is not an aviation museum but a flying museum, meaning that the whole intent is to make these vintage aircraft really fly. As they raise the funds, they buy the parts. Parts are sometimes hard to find. And manufacturers tend to shy away from making new parts (liability issues). So it it is a noble and grand effort to bring history to life. Your visit helps them. You wont go away disappointed. There are multiple levels of involvement available to you on an ongoing basis. Feel free to join the effort!

I had a truly awesome experience visiting this museum. Its a wonderful facility, everyone is outgoing and very informative in regards to these aircraft. I now feel cheated on behalf of my 9-18 year old self, primarily due to the fact that I never had never heard of, let alone, visited this place when I was younger. I mean, isnt it the mission of FWISD to find ways to inspire the next generation? Places like this are the solution to that problem. I wouldve been head over heels with this place in my elementary and middle school days.It is a nostalgic, intimate, warts-and-all exhibit of amazing aircraft, from the seemingly ordinary Skymaster Observation bird, to the jaw-dropping Fi-Fi, the Boeing B-29 Superfortress Heavy Bomber. So glad my girlfriend and I chose this as an adventure today. Theyre always looking for volunteers, so if you know anyone in the mindset of air aficionados, let them know!

Theres a small museum, but the main hangar is more like a restoration shop. A number of historic warplanes are in the process of being restored and you can see exactly how much mess and labor it really takes to keep these aircraft running. The volunteers are very knowledgeable and seem eager to talk about the airplanes and their work there.

We - my grandkids and I - visited a couple of years ago. As we approached, it looked a lot smaller than the Cavanaugh Air Museum in Addison but it actually turned out to be bigger than we expected. On weekdays it doesnt seem to get much traffic so we had excellent access. The kids got to sit in the pilot seats of an A-3 Skywarrior which was very unexpected, so this turned out to be a much more intimate experience. In the workshop, a mechanic interrupted his work to show us around including climbing up a mobile ramp to inspect the cockpit of a B-26 that was being restored and standing in the bomb-bay of another B-26 as the gentleman explained the various components. Disarmed bombs were on touchable display and the kids got a huge kick out of that.Despite our initial concerns as we approached, the Vintage Flying Museum turned out to a very substantial warehouse of historic aircraft and also home to a bunch of very enthusiastic, instructive, nice people.

Excellent working museum. The inside museum part is very nice and the cost is reasonable. When youre done touring the inside, you enter the hangar space. They have several airplanes on static display, but also house a few flying airplanes as well, focusing on the WWII time-frame. It was really neat to see them actually working on airplanes (especially the engines on workstands).

The Vintage Flying Museum is a wonderful museum run by a staff of all volunteers. In fact, it is such a well run museum that the Commemorative Air force decided to make it the home of the famous B-29 Fifi, B-24, and the A-26. I have taken many tours here including taking my students on a class field trip. There is so much passion from the volunteers that you cant help but to get wrapped up in everything going on around you. I highly recommend visiting this museum and taking in all it has to offer. Please do not believe the bad review written previously on the forum. From my many experiences, it is a very well run museum lead by Chuckie, who is one of the most passionate and respected ladies in aviation. She will be proud to tell you about all the hard work and sacrifices it took to make the museum possible.

Dont go near this place. I was their #1 tenant for three years from Feb 1 2010 to Nov 1 2012, and had more than 70 parts stolen, including rudders, elevators, ailerons, tires, cockpit instruments, rare WWII parts, and much, much more, worth hundreds of thousands of dollars, some if not all by other tenant Jim Terry of Greatest Generation Aircraft. I informed owner Chuckie of this and she said she did not care one bit about this. Instead she kicked me out, seemingly to avoid bad publicity, and told the volunteers lies about me. The website says they have a C-47 when they have no such thing. The photo of an A-10 is a lie. Call it the Villain Flying Museum. It is the most corrupt place in which I have ever set foot.

Vintage Flying Museum is a working museum in accordance with the wishes of Bill and Chuckie Hospers, the founders. I have been involved with the Museum from the beginning, many many years ago. This man Washburn needs some sort of grudge to bear in the world. He has even taken on the New York City Fire Department in a similar way as he rants about VFM.The volunteers and directors are all honest and straightforward people with no other interest than that of preserving and FLYING vintage aircraft. What airplanes are in the hanger at any given time is variable, because they FLY. At the moment, the only flying B-29 and one of 2 flying B-24s are there. Next week, they may not be.Do visit the museum. You will find the volunteers friendly and most willing to spend time with visitors. See the exhibits, see the airplanes from the inside, visit the gift shop.If possible attend the annual Hanger Dance. It is always wonderful, with a 40s style big band, and dancing in front of WW-II aircraft. Wear period clothing if you have it. Even if you dont dance come anyway and watch the incredible Swing Dancers from the area put on magnificent exhibitions.Welcome to Vintage Flying Museum.Michael C. Coup, director
